Curious....Anyone found similar?
I've had loads of Jap bikes and my Bayliss is my first Ducati so looking to see if this is a thing.....
I ran the V2 in from new and was pretty vigilant in sticking to the recommended rev range restrictions only starting to bust the 6K limit (to maybe 8K) with only a hundred or so miles before its first service. The fist dealer service 600 miles (1000km) went fine and although I didnt personally see the metal material on the sump plug magnet It was reported to be "average" in terms of metal filings that found its way to the plug. the mechanic had seen slightly less on some but mostly more than mine on others so pretty good really....
Anyway......... I had a track day recently and made a point of changing both the oil and filter after this as it was the first time the bike had been used in anger consistently over a few hours and for me this was the real finishing touch for the break in period. By this time I have approx 1500 miles (2500km) on the clock. Certainly a good time to freshen every thing up and inspect the last of the expected run in junk.
For over 25 years I've always drained the oil with a magnet in the outflow from sump to catch tray. I found only very fine (and very few) metal specks in the oil and expecting more... was very satified with how little material I found over all.
One thing I have not seen before is a small amount of a graphite coloured sludge that accumulated in small balls (assuming very slightly magnetic) on top of the magnet.
At first I thought they were solid however on closer inspection the material was very soft and when touched easily dispersed into a liquidy film back into the oil when removed from the magnet.
There was only enough to maybe be a gram or so.... when first discovered on the magnet in 2 or 3 small balls they wouldve each been just under 1/8 of an inch or 3mm in diameter. Like I say, They were not solid I think the material only clumped up into these little balls because the material was slightly magnetic....
Overall I am more curious than anything as I have not seen this before on any of the gazillion oil changes Ive performed over the years... the bike runs great and I have not had 1 issue with it.
I suspect it is possibly clutch friction plate contamination material from normal wear and tear but would love to hear your experiences and thoughts.
Cheers!

Ah good deal. This material once you push on it with your finger turned into a gray sludge like you mentioned so I thought it was worth checking. In my case, this is the steel cylinder liner.
