Just come back from a tour of Ireland on my 1199.
To say It got wet is an understatement.
Bike in wet mode and it was still twitching around when not really pushing it that hard on the twisties. Front went once an the rear was just all over the place. Think DTC save me from dropping it on a couple of occasions.
I'm thinking these Pirrelli tyres are pretty awful in the wet.
My 999 was always shod with Michelin pilot power 2's and that bike never stepped out on me once in the wet. First time I've had a bike with Pirrelli tyres and not impressed. Have zero confidence in the wet on these.
To be fair there was a fair bit of standing water around.
In the dry I can't fault the tyres.

Just looking at these tires. I wouldn't have any faith in the wet. You were a brave one, riding that big beast around

i rode the the wet last week, with light rain, and thought it was acceptable to such sticky tires, i was in rain mode, then switch to sport after awhile, was doing 50-60mph on the highway wo any instability
down side is i had to spent 2 hrs cleaning her up afterward

I got poured on yesterday. When raining hard, I swap to wet mode. When roads are just soaking wet, I move right back to sport mode. I don't try to go fast in the wet as it is too easy to crash. I was able to move along faster than traffic without any problems and this is on almost worn out tires. I don't use much lean angle at all. Too risky for me.

The Pirelli's are DOT legal slicks, look at the grooves at the edges of the tires? Didn't see any? Correct. Because there are NONE. Its not a rain tire. The good news is that Pirelli makes a good rain tire for the Panigale too.

1+
I totally agree and further more, once the roads get wet the temperature on these DOT Slicks drops pretty fast..
anyone trying to ride aggressively in the wet with these tires is looking to go down, slow down when in the rain and you should be OK.

Just back from a week riding around Scotland. It rained so hard that it made the national news most days.

I thought the tyres were ok, despite the lack of tread. Completely shagged now though.

I'll look into them.
I'm used to riding in the rain living here and I regularly hit the twisties wet.
I guess these pirelli tyre are just too slick for wet roads. I would expect that from track tyres but not a road tyre.
Do Michelin do a pilot power 200? If and when they do I'll get them as I've had no issues in the wet with those.

Which tyre are you referring to George? Not many tyres in the correct size at the moment, I would like something with more wet weather ability but not a full rain tyre.

I was looking at the Dunlop sportsmarts !

I have had them on my Triumph Street Triple R and I absolute love those tires :D. Rode them a number of occasions on the track in dry and pooring rain conditions and they've never failed me once . At the time I did a fair bit of highway each week and too my surprise the tires lastet very very long for a combined track / road usage.

Not sure about the tires for use on a Panigale. The Pani's power might be a bit much for it. Anyways in my opinion it's not easy to find a good tire which can cope with tremendous amount of power on a hot day AND profide good grip in the rain. You always have to compromise.

I don't have my 1199 Panigale Owners Manual here with me, but YOU MUST READ the section on the TRACTION CONTROL settings and what tire(s) setting 3 and 8 were designed for - it lists a rain tire. Ducati engineers used certain tire characteristics ONLY for the 1199 to CALIBRATE the TC settings for the 1199 including the RAIN tires. I will not use other tires.

The answers are there.

Ciao!!!!!!

George - TC modes 3-8 (from memory) were designed specifically to work with the Supercorsa's. You're right it does mention a rain tyre, unfortunately this isn't a road tyre, it's a full wet for track use.

Justfire - that would be my choice or a standard Corsa. Unfortunately Pirelli don't make them with a 200 section rear. Yet...

Bahahaha! I love it when people complain about the performance of the Supercorsa's in the rain - they're not rain tires!!!! That's like complaining about your chainsaw's ability to carve wooden chess pieces. They aren't made for the rain!

Not to mention wet mode only drops it to 120. My Daytona has 126hp as well as the supercorsa's on her feet, and it works like crap in the rain as well!

DON'T RIDE HARD IN THE RAIN WITH SUPERCORSA'S! Use them how they are meant to be used! As a dry track tire!

Just had an email back from Pirelli. They plan to produce the Corsa Rosso with a 200 section rear later this year, they don't have a release date at the moment though.

I had Pirelli Super Corsa's fitted when I bought my 999S a few years and they are rubbish in the wet. Great for the dry and the odd track day. So I ditched them for a Pirelli Corsa III for the front and a Pirelli Corsa for the rear. The bike now sticks like .... to a blanket in the dry and is very manageable in the wet. :)

Ok Bud whatever floats your boat
They are classed as road tyres also so should have some ability in the wet..Agreed not to be ridden hard like i said i wasn't doing..but they are still awful for a ROAD Tyre..Pirelli reckons they are safe in the wet, according to their own description, i beg to differ.
As soon a better tyre for all conditions comes out i'll be junking these Supercorsa's...
