Heat issue, overblown

IMHO...
I was really worried before purchasing the bike after reading all the comments about heat and skin burns etc. especially here in South Florida.
Well after about 400 miles on some open roads and traffic in very hot weather and humidity I can say, it's no big deal. Feels less then my 1098 for sure.
Maybe it has to do with your height or size of your thighs, I don't know.
Or Perhaps I'm so busy smiling under my helmet to even notice the heat.
Now I do wear perforated leather pants with heat-out tights. Some think I'm crazy wearing any kind of leather but these pants keep me cooler then mesh or textile and a hell of a lot safer.
Again, no big deal, I'm loving this damn bike too much!!

Glad you enjoy your bike; I love mine as well.

I can assure you the heat issue is not overblown for those that are adversely affected.

However, I will absolutely agree with you that if you can withstand the heat from your particular bike with your gear, in your climate, it is a non-issue.

;)

FINALLY!!!! Someone who can actually agree with me about how totally out of proportion this topic has been blown! I couldn't believe those who chose NOT to buy this bike based off the heat they felt. Those who were "burned" by the heat- I have no way of explaining this one, sorry.
Those who have owned previous ducati superbikes know damn well the true heat derived from those under tail exhausts and know the 1199 can't hold a damn candle (no pun) to the heat from those styles!

THANK YOU FOR STEPPING UP AND TELLING IT LIKE IT REALLY IS! (Sorry Ken)

Btw- best piece of cool gear I have ever used is called RS Taichi Edge, technical undershirt! I often get chills on 100 degree days while wearing this shirt! Call Audrey at Moto Liberty and tell her I sent you on my military discount!! Lol

Totally agree. I'm riding today and it's 103 here in Clarksville TN. I just stopped to get food and my bike temp in lunch traffic was ranging from 205-219. And me personally had no problems and I didn't get burned anywhere. So don't let heat stop you from buying this beautiful bike. Btw what's everyone's bike temps running in this summer weather. And has anyone changed their coolant to engine ice or anything of that nature?

No problem, I just don't want to minimize someone else's feelings about the heat. While I wouldn't necessarity forgo the purchase because I fear the heat is uncomfortable (I think that may be a bit extreme), I've actually felt the heat before when I wasn't dressed properly so I know it is there and how bad it can get and I understand when the heat gets so hot to someone's leg that they have to pull over at the very next safe spot and literally hop off the bike. You can't exactly call that overblown but I don't think there is cause for alarm and I'm certainly not looking for a fix from the OEM. Instead I purchased my first leather pants and take proactive steps. Also I no longer tell folks this bike is too hot to ride in high temps (yes it's over 100 here for nearly two weeks straight).

BTW, this is my first superbike so I had no idea these things run so hot.

I think there's a big difference between those who have owned a Duc before and those who have not. For me coming from an 848 it's not much different, something that's no big deal. For my friend coming from a CBR 1000 it's different, but he has become accustomed to it. But honestly it is a little thing, and if that put someone off from buying it, that's their loss.

Wtf???????????????

I was inside a hospital today and had ...... cell service, thus didnt know my reply even went thru on this forum. PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGIES ON THIS RIDICULOUS OVER POST !!!! Holy .... that makes me look like a total ass!

Lemme see if I can delete some of this trash now. Sorry everyone!!!

I was a bit startled by the heat of the Duc, coming from an inline 4. I rode it for about 300 miles, and recently bought the Duc Comfort Seat. Not only is it MUCH more comfortable on the ass-slaps whenever I'm hitting rough road, it makes a HUGE difference in how the heat feels. Probably because the seat is thicker. Downside is it adds about 1.5 inches to the ride height.

Hmmmmmmm, I just thought you REALLY wanted us to know how you felt on the subject gunny! ;)

the heat is no biggy and not nearly as bad as my 996, 748 or aprilia rsv4,
BUT, I'm going to pull the back pipe, get it jet hot coated and line the cover with that exhaust foil just for a bit extra.

The only time it was tough was at the track and the track temp was checked and said to be 120-130.

I could be wrong but isn't coating just one pipe a bad idea?

You can put me in the middle I suppose. It's definitely hotter than it needed to be, but not getting any burns or the like. With such a minimalist design and so little between the rider and the rear head and exhaust loop there's no way it wasn't going to be hot. Anyone who's ridden a liter bike with an underseat exhaust shouldn't be too surprised. Would have been easy to mitigate it at the design level though; shame Ducati aren't a tad more focused on things like ease of maintenance or creature comforts as are the Japanese. Suspect they will be heading in that direction in coming years with Audi onboard.

For reference, after doing back to back comparison rides on my Panigale, Daytona 675 and RC51 on a hot day, the 1199 definitely had the hottest seat/tank area by a significant amount, but compared to the blast furnace effect on your torso from the dual side-mounted radiators on the RC at 40-50 mph, the overall "thermal environment" if you will was definitely better on the Pani. Worst condition is cruising behind slow-moving traffic it seems; you're not moving around and the airflow isn't helping. Soon as you get to some twisties and move around a bit, no real problem.

Still going to look into maybe a layer of aerogel or such for the bottom of the seat; seems like an easy way to improve it. And you could remove it for a nice built in butt-warmer when Fall rolls around... ;)

I don't have trouble with the heat either...not sure why some guys are and I'm not. The pics that I've seen posted definately show a burn problem for some tho. But then again, some are havng issues with clutches, starting, bike quitting, etc. So far, mine has been flawless.

Totally with you guys on this!! Wearing leathers or my Kevlar jeans; in 95 plus degrees mind you and in traffic, I have no heat issues to complain of.

Really; man-up you guys!

Did not realize so many were on the "heat cycle", so to speak ;)

Now if I can only get my bike back!!

BTW, my R1 will def put the heat under ur *SS !! (pipes like the 1098). Still no prob with the right gear.
