Heat issue, overblown

+1 on the right gear making all the difference. I usually wear Kevlar jeans with bike shorts underneath. Today (95f here in central Fl) I went for a short ride in regular jeans and the heat was much more noticeable.

the extra heat is going to come in handy around here from october thru december. lol

Exactly! We'll be referring to this as "heated seats" and make it sound like it was an option in the cold months:D. Pffffttt.....heated grips on the Beemer....big deal.

Let me open by saying, I love my Panigale!

The first time I rode it, 150 miles, full A* leathers, boots, gloves, etc.
Got home, was thinking bike was hot. Leg was hot. Didn't want to be a pussy and complain, then realized I had an actual decent sized burn on the back of my right thigh. It's not a "man up" situation when you actually get burned. Hasn't happened since, but I have altered how I ride the bike.

I personally don't enjoy riding unless it is 'spirited'.
As soon as the pace quickens, I don't even feel any heat from the bike. As soon as I slow down, I notice it feels hot.

I have since purchased a set of A* race replica perforated suit. Makes a huge difference to my overall comfort.

I have had Superhawk (VTR1000), RC51, 08 CBR1K and this bike is the only one to physically burn me from just riding.

But since it is my first Duc, I have just gotten accustomed to the heat.

Heat is a problem with computer map on full exhaust bikes

The rear cylinder is running too lean especially between 4-6k rpms. Ducati will be issuing a new map shortly.

There is a rumour on new maps but what's your source? Does anyone have a statement from Ducati on this?

No statement from Ducati, but did get my local dealer to plug my bike into the net (Oh dear, what has biking come to) and look for updates for the full system upload. There were none, so nothing is happening yet.

I've come from riding various Japanese sports bikes, and I will say the heat is grossly different (more) feeling for me on the Panigale S. This is my opinion, so I'm not looking to start any wars here.

My legs and inner thighs get quite hot on this bike, sometimes when riding down the road and especially at a stop. It often gets to the point where I will push my body as far up on the tank/bike as possible just to help adjust and avoid some of the heat.

Have I been physically burned, scarred, or damaged by the heat so far? NO. Does the extra heat make me not want to ride this bike? Of course not!
I've been riding around in 110F Atlanta (it's called "Hotlanta" for a reason) summer days at the worst possible hours, and it definitely makes me break out in a sweat between the sun and heat from the Panigale S, but in no ways is it hurting me.

I'm thinking of coating the exhaust or some reflective heat shield, but worst case I am no better off than I am now, and the heat is bearable in the exhausting heat of Atlanta.

Update: I had a 80F riding day the other day and the heat felt a TON better for me. I would never recommend riding this bike with shorts like some people have done, I would guess it's possible to burn yourself with direct skin contact given the right 'encouragement' of the environment and the bike's natural heat. Then again it's possible for me to burn myself on the leather seats in my car in the summer time if I hop in there butt naked too.. so take this with a grain of salt, YMMV.

As others and I have stated before it seems that the heat "issue" gets better with time... be it that one is getting more accustomed to it or that the bike is going through growing pains in the breaking in process.

I came from inline 4's to the Panigale and the first ride (in blue jeans) was rather eye opening in the amount of heat pouring out. Now with 1400 miles on the bike I can ride in blue jeans with a noticeably less amount of heat. It will always have a warmer seat area than any inline 4, due to engine/ exhaust positioning, but for me it has only gotten better.

I noticed the same thing, I think I've just gotten used to it. I really don't even care enough to notice.

I'm wondering if the slip on spring attachment in the curve of the exhaust may be leaking from gaps onto those who've been actually burned. Didn't realize you guys were really getting true injuries!! That's nuts! I'd get a fireman friend to use their infra red thermal imaging screen to check for leaks...I can't imagine the pipes alone radiating that much to actually burn...

I think the heat issue is relative to the rider.. Panigale is my first duc and initially the heat is a noticeable quirk for me..

I also feel that in lower gears with 4-5k rpms generate good amount of heat, and it sucks in street riding, since those gears/rpms are what I use the most as not to get speedometer out of control..

on a side note, I was kinda stupid enough to wear shorts (yes the same ones from my 1199 walkaround youtube video) on a short 20 min ride and managed to get sizeable burns on inner thighs.

Since then, I've been riding with regular jeans and the heat is quite noticeable at low speeds an stops, and at times with high temps into 100s, it is uncomfortable to the point I sit forward near the tank and position the legs to avoid the heat coming from between the fairings.

So simply put, I've learned to manage the heat a little better, and no burns so far.
I still wish that there was a solution, ie getting the fan to turn on earlier around 180F, cuz damn it I enjoyed riding in my shorts! lol..

but yes, the heat problem is an annoyance, but still hasn't stopped me from riding the bike.

Suck it up....and have a nice day.

I'm interested in this new map as well. Hopefully it addresses some of the power issues that AR uncovered as well. Dysert, when is this new mapping being released and what's your source? Can't drop nuggets like this and leave us hanging....

Cheers

i thought it was pretty "sanitized " for sport "TOURING" with des. Then there was about hard stock seat and led some to slap-on comfort ones. Some say the side stand is a pita,is it? The mirror vibrates, can't see shxx behind the blur then now the infuriating HEAT riding on streets...etc..etc

i thought Ducati is all out to built a raw superbike for track for what they defined it to be.This is their true italian race heritage.i think they did a very fantastic job.

for the above, it really amounts to nothing to nitpick about as ducati make 1199 just adequent to homogl.for road so that enthusiats could "taste raw-nest of italian superbike on the road,in fact everyday if one choose to live with the street-unfriendliness.(Ducati is not ashame of, we don't need to analyse the technical reason of the heat) ....

What a privileage we have.

The 1199 was purpose built for the track and twistys..... not to putt around city or town traffic. I mean the cylinder head AND the exhaust pipe are right under your ass:eek:

But when I was in Lake George I did a lot of miles and found that when I was wearing thermal underwear there was a marked difference in comfort from the heat (go figure). So I cut my long johns down to shorts and now ride with short johns and it is much better.

There are also a lot of tips around the forums on folks experimenting with different undergarments (no cross dressing jokes!) and pant combinations to alleviate the heat if you are riding around town. But the thermal shorts worked for me.

same here, it really helps.

Anyone sitting on a 200 bhp machine excepting AC like comfort should turn the bike back in to where they bought it... and while they are at it get the pair out of the wife's purse.

The California Bay Area gets quite hot these days. I have found the bike hitting 220 when in traffic. Personally, I do not think the Panigale gets any hotter than my R1.

heat.

Totally agree. I'm riding today and it's 103 here in Clarksville TN. I just stopped to get food and my bike temp in lunch traffic was ranging from 205-219. And me personally had no problems and I didn't get burned anywhere. So don't let heat stop you from buying this beautiful bike. Btw what's everyone's bike temps running in this summer weather. And has anyone changed their coolant to engine ice or anything of that nature?

Riding in Boston Ma. over the weekend air temp was around 90. Bike was running between 187 - 219. at traffic stops.
