Haha good point! Oh we'll, adds some fun for those who don't actually pay attention to what they are reading :) I think they call that subliminal messaging

I'd prefer it was not a recall as I want to see the experience of others with engine temps before taking Ducati up on this mod. When I came off track last summer in 35 C ambient the bike was at 103 C and the fan was running. Personally I don't have a problem with the heat, but I would have a problem with a cooked motor, ecu, wiring, etc.

For the head, sure. But for the exhaust, doesn't seem like that would increase engine heat any. I'll hit like 220 degrees stuck in traffic, but then it does regulate itself. So seems like it would do the same, or could be tweaked with software since the thing is just one big computer. Or...riders start to appear to spontaneously combust as the magnesium parts of the engine ignite.
For me at least, it's pretty clear that the head is the source of the heat that makes the bike uncomfortable. Heat from the head is the heat I was talking about.

But where will they reroute said heat? Just allow the bike to run alot hotter doesn't seem like a good idea either. Optimistically skeptical.

Mystery solved! It is a heatshield update, for both exhausts types- wider heat shield extension for the bottom right, and a new sheild for the rear of the cylinder head. All customers will get a mailing explaining this. All free.
That is really good news. I was starting to notice the heat problem as well and now it is nice in chilly in Texas, but when summer comes boy.... i dont want to think about it. so it is perfect timing! Glad Ducati is fixing these issues. I will call my dealer as well.

I'm not sure why you are skeptical. Most big bikes put out a lot of heat, but they design the bikes to route the air past the rider. I've owned two bikes that were first known for their heat, but then fixed by the mfr (mine were both versions after the fix). The early FJR 1300 Yamaha and first two years of Kawasaki Concours 14. In both cases the revised versions put out zero heat on the rider and no issues with cooling.

wow, that just made me really dislike Ducati (for a few minutes), so bad i had to go out and stare at my USA version for at least 15 minutes to help the trauma going on inside my brain. I guess if i lived in Japan, (Land of the Scooters and Smart Cars) maybe i wouldn't be so offended by this rendition of our beloved pani, but i don't and now i must live with that vision of our bike being violated....

Just to set the record straight, I am not an alien and was not in Jay's brain

I was told about this update when I was picking up my bike, but Aaron from EC wasn't certain about the date. He didn't want to blow smoke up my butt and said by the summer at the latest. Glad to see that it is coming sooner.

i have the comfort seat, i dont know if thats the reason but i dont find the bike getting that hot. Honestly i feel this issue is way overblown. For the record the only time i feel the heat of this bike is if i am ridding in shorts. It takes about 45 min to start to feel. the heat comes off the clutch cover (you know big gold round thing on the right side). I feel it on my calf and when i get off the bike its all red. Simple solution is dont wear shorts. if i am wearing jeans (regular or kevlar) i dont feel it and if i am in a race suit i dont feel it either.

WOW, you should come out west when it is over 100 degrees outside

I have NO issue with the heat when the outside temperature is below 90 degrees, but we had nearly a month of over 100 degrees and it was severely noticeable

Leather and Kevlar do derail the onset of the heat, but after a period of time, the heat penetrates those articles of clothing as well, again, when it is really hot out.

just my .02 mybe Im a Puss, but it gets hot

Personally in the UK, it's hardly noticeable.......all the rain must act as a coolant

Mark - you have to actually start and run the engine to feel the heat, just an FYI :D

My base is serial # 2552.

As soon as I noticed this thread I got on the horn with my service rep. He had not heard about the whole thing but promised to inquire right away.

He left a message on my cell this afternoon to tell me that this far into production, all the bikes were equipped with the update and that only the earliest versions were affected.

Maybe that's the reason why I never thought the heat was an issue...
