There is quite a legal significance between a product that people are unhappy with, and a product that causes injury. I'm sure as some Ducati attorney got wind of an actual complaint of injury, lawyer alarms started going off very loudly.
 
im not sure wat they will do with the exhaust im assuming that it will still be steel or alloy with thin double layer

however i did get a picture of japans model which is posed to cover right side of the bike cylinder clutch cover. which will reduce engine noise and heat.

i hope its a choice thing as i wouldnt want to cover the engine cylinder

Who is your dealer? Maybe I should start buying from them... sounds like they actually pay attention to their customers...
 
Ducati is using a solution from MotoGP by adding a metal box over the exhaust. No one is sure how it is going to look. Unfortunately, it is not the carbon fiber exhaust cover used on the 1199R.
 
To try and thwart unneeded additional threads on this matter, I'm bumping it since some have obviously overlooked this as they are Still discussing ways to cool down the bike.

YOU DONT NEED TO SPEND ANY $$ TO TRY AND FIX THIS ISSUE AS DUCATI IS IN PROCESS OF SHIPPING REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THE 12 and 13 MODELS TO ADDRESS THE HEAT!

SVC 1199 Panigale Heat Shield Upgrade

Memo

Ducati has recently received owner concerns relating to engine and exhaust heat discomfort occurring on Model Year 2012 and 2013 1199 Panigale motorcycles during certain riding conditions. The heat discomfort may occur for owners whose bikes retain the standard exhaust or on units where the Ducati Performance full exhaust system (silencer and manifolds) has been installed. In recognition of these concerns, in both cases Ducati has decided to implement a dedicated heat shield kit upgrade at no cost to the owner containing the below improvements. A Technical Service Bulletin will be provided when the upgraded part becomes available by the end of February containing modification instructions, parts ordering data, and labor charging information.

Upgrade Kit contents:
- Wider manifold double layer heat shield right side extension
- Rear cylinder head side covers

Customers will be receiving a letter asking them to contact their authorized Ducati dealer to schedule appointments starting in February so that the service can be performed without delay. Please help us take the appropriate steps to ensure that all customer motorcycles are properly updated.

On the 16th I wrote:

Mystery solved! It is a heatshield update, for both exhausts types- wider heat shield extension for the bottom right, and a new sheild for the rear of the cylinder head. All customers will get a mailing explaining this. All free.

I hope it doesnt intefere with the looks of the bike. I'd rather deal with the heat than uglify the bike!
 
I doubt it will be an improvement (looks wise)
Covering the cylinder head would be a real shame...

I'd probably do it though...

I am 99% sure it will not change the appearance, you can't even see the rear of the cylinder. They would not modify the asthetics to correct an engineering issue. That is so un-Ducati like! :)
 
The rear of the rear cylinder is where they are focuing. Yes, it could show, I'm just betting not. Plus we have the option of doing both or neither.

I had burns-(water bubbles) on my right thigh when I used my nylon textile pants on my Panigale "S" on a 300km ride...Never had these kind of burns of my previous bikes.

I now wear leathers always and the burns dont ever come back, but the heat issue is still there. I live in the Philippines and climate here is similar to Florida....hot and humid... so this heat issue rectification is a big deal for us here.

Yes immense heat comes from rear header coil...that's where they should concentrate on. The other front header near the radiator does not affect us riders as its too far in front and away from us. Its that Damn Header coil beneath our seat that is causing all these heat issues...Nothing more.
 
Well I just got my 1199 yesterday and I thought it was an issue also riding home from the dealer in rush our traffic!! My first Ducati coming from a Yamaha night and day (in a good way) but i thought it was pretty incredible the heat on my seat!! I thought there was something wrong with my bike! I eventually got it home looked it over and rode more at night and it was still hot but cooler outside. I hope this fix comes soon, Im in Texas and it will get really hot outside, thats a promise!
