Here is the 2018 Ducati V4 Panigale

That doesn't really make sense, with a different chassis and engine there is zero benefit in terms of design simplicity to have the shape/bodywork resemble a different existing bike. If there is any kind of "family resemblance" between bikes in different model families, it's intentional and not because it was easier to design.

Yes it's a resemblance of the Panigale/Supersport. What I was alluding to was that by all accounts, this is not the direction they were planning to go in, until the original designer left.

we haven't seen the bike yet.

But from generation to generation, i expect a bigger differentiation than the previous

unique features of each generation
916, 996, 998, side/side headlight (square), single side swingarm, undertail exhaust

999, dual sided swingarm, cyclopes headlights (round)

1098, 1198, return to side/side headlights (round), single sided swingarm,

1199, 1299, underbody exhaust, slim subframe/tail, frameless design

1100 V4 - looks like a Supersport/Panigale mix? wtf

It's also possible the Base and S are what we have been seeing, the ala supersport, and the 35k R gets a little more aggressive styling.

I like your optimism but it seems the die has already been cast. I've been speaking to a few suppliers who I have had dealings with as a customer, as well as my own local dealer, and all are of the same concensus. This is one ugly bike, if it bears any resemblance to the photos leaked thus far. That's not a promising sign for a product/flagship model that should be stealing the limelight in November. It's almost impossible to assess the extent of the damage that was done by losing the designer so far into the V4 project and it begs the question why he left. Maybe TJ99 can shed some light on this. What is clear is that it's resulted in a half baked outcome and one which has raised not much more than a luke warm welcome. Tooling will by now have been finalized I would have thought, as production must surely be set to start shortly after the November launch, if it hasn't started already, so unless we've all been duped by what we've seen, then it's a given that this bike will not herald the excitement that the Panigale created when it hit the floor at EICMA in 2012. Curiosity at best but not much else. Such a shame. I still feel that for a bike that was to signify a milestone for the company, namely the first mass produced V4 model, they would have wanted to make a real statement and wow us all with a new, fresh and exciting design. Sounds as if those ideas got quashed along the way and we're left with an "also ran" instead. Reminiscent of the 999 launch in some ways. Disappointed for the company and a little surprised at their short-sightedness. This was their one chance to capitalize on a turning point for them and come out with a real head turning motorcycle, eclipsing even the Panigale. Instead they are riding on the coat tails of a succesful design and adapting it to a new engine. Not so much innovation as plagarism. Nothing original to see here...move along.

Theoretically speaking, the v4/L4 design for Ducati is not new since they have been racing it for years now in Motogp. Their direct competition and benchmark is the Aprilia's RSV4. With Desmo value system, Ducati should see high rev limit, hence more peak HP. Also with the frameless design, expect light weight and slimmer body (hopefully a more appealing one). Last, since Ducati has commanded high price point vs Aprilia, we should see some really tricked out parts.

All Theoretically speaking.

I'm not quite as pessimistic as you. For one, I don't think the styling will be as bad. People don't like the fairings that extend into the tank, but perhaps it will look better in person. Not every bike shows well. We all all used to the slim proportions of the Panigale, and now we have to accept this new rendition.

Given that, the answer is No, I'm not buying one, mainly because I'm 2 months into a 1299S purchase. Lol

I think Ducati is smarter than that. This post will look pretty silly if they come out with something that sells like hotcakes.

I think people should just be patient and wait to see what comes out, then make all the judgment you want. All just wild ass guessing at the moment. IMHO.

I hope you're right. I really would like them to make me eat my words. We'll see soon enough.

What benefit is there to ANTICIPATE being disappointed? Seems to be a pointless exercise. Won't be long now, just hang tight and we will all see what happens. All I can say is I have NEVER seen a Ducati in person and thought it looked worse than it did in photos, but I've had the opposite happen dozens of times.

None of course. I am only basing this on the information I was given that there is unlikely to be any change to the design that we have already seen in the leaked photos. I hope to be proved wrong, in which case I'll be delighted. :)

just to make things more interesting, rumor has it that with the race exhaust it will make more than 220hp. That could be interesting to say the least.

OK, so forgetting aesthetics for the moment, what's the betting line on weight for the new bike? Motor's gaining about 5lbs over the 1229, which had already gained 2+ over the 1199 motor. The front subframe looks to be larger, perhaps without integrating the airbox anymore, and that 4-pipe Euro4 exhaust has got to add some poundage. The rest wouldn't need to be much different, but it looks like it'll be a tough go to maintain the lightest liter bike title. Put me down for 435 kerb. Which is about 37 more than my current 1199... :p

Does anyone know what the prices may be on the base and S models? Regarding what some have said that it is wider and or bigger than the current 1299. I also have a 2015 BMW S1000R and a 2016 BMW S1000RR. After looking at the 2008 model compared to my 2016 model, the 2016 model looks like its wider and longer. Meaning the fairings seem wider as each new stage came out and the nose and tail seem longer. Now the 2018 BMW S1000RR is coming out and it seems it went back to its roots. Its now narrow like the 2008 model that came out in munich and the plastic is shorter. I think as these bikes come out they try to make them prettier and prettier and therefore they add width to the plastic as well as length to the nose and tail. And sooner or later they go right back to where they started from. Maybe in year 3 of this 4 cylinder they will refresh the body and maybe frame and it will be thinner and shorter in the fairing area. Maybe Im wrong, but that seems to be the trend with all bikes. Just look at the Honda CBR1000
