AmpForE, do you go through bikes quick or are you building out a collection?

lol

Not really, but each bike has a story. Some good and some I wish I didn’t let go. I had every intention of keeping the S1000RR, but I snapped the chain and at the next oil change I had some metal in the oil so I let it go before the engine grenaded on me. Bought the RSV4 and the day I brought it home I thought I’d hate it. A month later and I came to realize the bike was brilliant. Less power than the BMW but I did not care. The BMW would not turn. I had every intention of keeping the RSV4 until I moved and did not have any dealer support for maintenance and repairs. So I sold it and bought the 1299S. Big sigh.

In retrospect, I should have waited. A month after I sold it an Aprilia dealer opened up near me. If anything i would have gotten a newer 17 or 18MY RSV4. So I bought 1299S because I loved the motor. So now you have an 1299S and love the motor but it’s so damn hot I don’t enjoy riding it for more than an hour and if it above 85 degrees, forget about it!

So, it’s about that time and I’m looking at an RSV4 or perhaps an R1.

What’s your plan for 1299S? Keep it for the cooler months?

Yes, for now. I have a few other priorities this summer so I may keep it another season. It’s a 16 with 6,000 miles so if I’m going to sell it I want to do so with 7,500 miles or less.

I’m also upgrading my gear. I ride with a really slow group so I never gear up and wear jeans most days. On this bike it’s not really the best idea. Back in NJ a weekend ride would be in my leathers and the heat would probably not bother me as much. Here, with these guys it’s a slow pace. When I am out by myself I pick up the pace and wear better gear. Anywho, I’m hoping my new pants will help.

The problem with the 1299 is not just the heat on your legs. The bigger problem is the heat that escapes around my junk. The tank / seat connection does not seal off the heat and the bike roasts your junk. The temp of the tank near the seat is 145+ degrees. Yes, I hit it with a infrared heat gun.

We will try the gear, if I don’t find a solution for me by 4th of July I will get serious about the RSV4 or R1. If the S1000RR wasn’t so damn buzzy and vib like crazy I’d put that back on the list.

I want this one to last 10 years before I think about another bike.
