How many will buy a 1299 twin instead of new V4?

I could not care less for the costs of the V4
I'm going to watch and see if it has any Ducati feel good .... going on.... like water or oil leaks, or cutting out or excessive heat .......

I like having the latest toys in my toy box, (and the hottest blonde .... at the gym) gagging on my python

Early days for me..... as for the comments on Ducati making clients part with there money? You guys need to meet the team from the UK who make the carbon super cars .... only difference is they build a reiliable vehicle

I'm not overly happy with my 1299 having some issues with it in the recent past so I'm not sure I will, add this pregnant looking V 4 to my collection
Will be reading with interest the comments from the older well schooled members who love the character building Ducati brings to ther boring fuking lives
You seem like a nice happy fella

My base 1299 suspension was crap so a track day wasnt even a option. Throw a ohlins out back and tweak the showa forks and keep it forever.

Nothing preventing anyone from swapping suspension parts on the 1299 - I intend to keep mine a long time, most fun streetbike out there

I bought the last 1299 S from Coleman PowerSports earlier this month. Really glad I did!

I bought mine 1299S from them in November last year. In the shop now for its first service. Got a great deal for buying in the winter.

I'm fairly certain had the V4 been out when I bought my 1299, I would have gone for the V4. I've done about 2k miles on it and they have been some of the worst 2k miles I've rode in a long time. Fortunately, I have finally got my 1299S set up properly and now I love it, but it took some time and about $1000 on:

Grips and heavy barends - vibration
Tuneboy - Ride Ability
Comfort seat - iron butt
MoTool - set up sag and suspension

I think these came in order, but now that I've done them all the bike is amazing. It's handles great, stops well, and the Ohlins shines on my rough roads.

With that said, I've been on the V4 and it probably needs less to make it rideable, which would likely be setting up the suspension. I like the dash and electronics better on the V4, however the 1299S is the better looking bike.

I'll Take the 1299 S Thank You!

We were down to this very question about 6 months ago! The 1299 S won. Tons of midrange and I have no reason to doubt that the top end is likewise, too! When we had the first service done, we also had the full Akrapovic race system installed and wow - what a bike! It weighs 394 lbs (no fuel in the tank) and feels a lot like a mid size bike after having the suspension set up! I'm really happy with the 1299 S - what a bike!

Good luck with your decision and have a ton of fun on whichever way you go!

I've got to admit, my 1299s sees ZERO reasons to trade up to the v4s.
As a matter of fact, this article from motorcycle.com has me steamed!!
The V4S was the greatest bike to come along since the term "SUPERBIKE" was invented.
Now, it handles with "bucking and movement..." compared to the RSV4 that has had the same chassis design for 10 years !!! Ahahahahahaaa!!! Ok...the king is dead, long live the king! Caveat Emptor and all that jazz...
...bottom line is, buy what ya want, not because one Ducati is better than the other, but because it makes you happy!

I started this thread a long time ago. I still have my 2012 1199 and I'd love to find a deal on a leftover 1299. I'm about to retire and am not interested in a $22,000 V4, especially given that I have to rotate three bikes and a couple of nice cars. Doing that in retirement will be a little more painful. I can still afford decent rides, but not trading as often as I used to.

But my other reason for wanting a 1299 is that even as I'm about to turn 66 I still love riding my 1199 and I find the ergos really have worked well for me. Not sure I want to take a chance with ergos on a different super sport bike. I realize I can keep the 1199, but I'm at the point where maintence is starting to to get more frequent in terms of stuff wearing out. Right now it needs a new slave cylinder. Last year it was a new battery, radiator, chain, and sprockets.

I thought about a new "Supersport", but damn, 115hp? Don't think I can go from 195 to 115.

Somehow I doubt I'll get much sympathy though ;)

It's had battery, radiator, chain, and sprockets.
Sounds like a new slave and your right to go for some time!

I rode a stock 1299 after I finished sorting mine, I really liked the 1299 but after I got back onto mine I really enjoyed the ride home and that was the end of me thinking about upgrading. I'm sure if I put all my bits onto a 1299 it would turn out better than what I have but when do you stop?

My 1199 is a sweet ride and have no intention of getting rid of it, But luckily you and I live in parts of the world where we can pretty well do as we please.

To me Ducati spent all the budget on the engine, the rest of the bike just seems cheap and plastic fantastic.

A thread to justify why I can't upgrade to a better bike and keep what I got . I get that makes you feel better .

Interesting . Which part compared to the previous Pani ?

Loved and still love the twins. Love the v4 also. Well finished , fantastic electronics and engine and imo looks superb. Finish every bit as good as my 1299S
Some just seem to be unjustifiably critical of any change.
Can't please all the people all the time.

Same I love them all . The V4 is a true leap forward it's smooth as quick as like a stabbed rat and is more stable than the twin ever was . It's a unique motor and a nice balance between a twin and 4IL IMO .
The twin feels lazy in comparison but that is also it's charm .
Until you have had decent time on both and ride them both in anger make a decent assumption then but to say that one is more "plasticer" than the other is just embarrassing .
Maybe I am just trying to justify buying a V4 .

True lol. In saying that, I still got the 1299 and while I've yet to test ride a V4, all the reviews about it being smoother, heavier and slower to turn-in is the reason why I chose the 1299 in 2015 over the other then-new litre bikes.
I love the lumpy feeling, and lazy-torquey engine. Plus being a short fella, the 1299's svelte looks doesn't make me look like a jockey on a massive horse lol.
If anything about 4 cylinders i miss, it's the top end rush and the high-scream of the motor. New S1KRR and Honda CBR supposedly at EICMA!

The previous bike does turn in well but it was flawed in stability I think the V4 finds a really nice middle ground it most certainly feels more stable when getting on the power .
I actually think people will be surprised of the similarities of the previous bike and I have let a few people ride my bike out at the track guys who have raced the 1199 and they all love it .

I test-rode the V4S and it was stupidly fast, I quite liked it and was seriously considering pulling the trigger on one. After much thought, I just liked the 1299S more so I bought one instead. It's always going to be more than enough bike for me, and I'm real happy with it.

In the future, maybe when the second or third revision of the V4 is out, I might pull the trigger on it but the 1299S will stay.

I agree. It turns in less quickly but handles high speed direction changes more quickly. Stability , when set up is better mid corner and corner exit.
The v4 feels as characterful as the twin to ride easier at lower speeds but more intimidating when ridden in anger ,, which is good as it's purely down to the amount of power that it produces over a very wide rpm range.

Reality is if you own either your pretty close to experiencing motorcycling bliss
