Can someone please hold my hand thru the JPDiag/Melcodiag process? I was able to get it working with my 899 a few years ago but getting it to work with my recent purchase of a 2012 1199 TriColore has been unsuccessful... I can’t get it to read the ECU properly to send off for a license. Please help!

Thanks,
-John

You not seeing the vin info or anything in the lower left info box? Common problem is the ELM not connecting make sure it has the 232 chip or wont connect.

Are you using the same cable and scanner that allowed you to successfully connect to your 899?

Same cable, different scanner. I’m hoping that the scanner is the issue as I’m uncertain if it has the FT232RL chip... I just ordered one off eBay that states it has the FT232RL chip. We’ll see if that work....

Ok.... got my scanner today and no success. Could someone please post a link to a obd2 scanner that is a confirmed working unit & has successfully worked for them on a 1199? I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,
-John

I ended up ordering the Lonetech/oversea. I reached out to the seller in your 1st link Well over a week ago asking about availability and I have not heard back from them... Now the waiting begins to see of I’ll successfully be able to connect the bike/MelcoDiag.

Thanks Khmer1199.

-John

P.S: I’ll post back my results one I receive the obd2 scanner.

Good luck with it.

Update: I received the Lonelec OBD2 cable and got it connected good enough to email away for my license. I received a email response with my license within 24hrs.

I have noticed that I regularly get a code for the exhaust valve not opening/closing. I’m thinking that may be normal given the Bike has a full Termignoni system?

Thanks,
-John

Great... glad to hear that you have it sorted. If the exhaust valve motor/actuator has been disabled, MelcoDiag might display:

P1007 BBS Exhaust Valve (Calibration-Mechanical Stop With Valve Closed... and/or
P1009 BBS Exhaust Valve (Position-Motor Disc.)

A disabled exhaust valve motor (and many have disabled the motor) won't throw an error flag on the dash, but the fault will be captured by the BBS.

Thanks again Khmer1199 for your help. I will hook it up again after work today and post the code(s).

Khmer1199,
Here are the codes I continually get. I can clear them but they come back the next time the ignition is turned to the “on” position. Any input on whether this is a normal condition given the full Termi exhaust or do I need to start chasing a issue...?

Thanks,
-John

What is the actual status of the exhaust valve motor/actuator? I assume that it has been disabled/removed with the full exhaust fitted, and if that's the case, then those errors are normal. You can clear them in MelcoDiag, but as you observed, they'll return the next time around. My exhaust valve motor was removed long ago, and in earlier versions of MelcoDiag, the same codes that you've listed above were displayed. With the release of version (1.0.6.4) and now the latest version (1.0.6.5), those two codes have vanished and been replaced by codes P1007 and P1009.

Sounds good, thanks again!

I'm assuming with the full exhaust that it has been removed as well, but not 100% certain of that. Do you know where it(the motor) is located so I could visually verify this?

Thanks,

-John

The motor itself mounts to the top of the air extractor. The actuating cable extends beneath the oil pan and rearward to the 2 into 1, 1 into 2, portion of the exhaust which contains the exhaust valve. If I'm not mistaken, the full system doesn't have provisions for the valve in the exhaust, so it should be noticeably absent. Even if the motor and cable were never removed from the bike, you should be able to look at that portion of the exhaust from the left-hand side of the bike and see that the cable has been disabled/disconnected.

Ok, thanks. Being it is the full system, I think I'm safe in assuming the servo is removed and the 2 codes are "normal".

Thanks again for your help and knowledge Khmer1199!
