$700 includes CA ".... in the butt" state tax, too.

im in nyc and its 105 bucks an hour and just as much .... in the butt tax too. someone has to pay for everyone getting obama phones and food stamps. illegals for you in CA.

Upon further inspection--why doesn't my 520 AFAM conversion look like the 520 AFAM conversion (with quick change carrier) I see everywhere?

I asked for the AFAM kit. I paid over $400 for it. But what the hell did I get?

Is that the stock rear carrier, and a steel Sprocket? Did Newport Beach Ducati charge me for the full kit, only to supply me with a steel rear sprock and no AFAM carrier?

The sprocket carrier is under the silver sprocket hub cover. You may see it if you look closer. There should be the black sprocket which is bolted to the black sprocket carrier. The hub cover and cush drive goes into the sprocket carrier.

Because most of us got the alloy option, not longevity that is steel.

AFAM Quick Change Lightweight Kit - 1199 Panigale

+1.

I got the 525 AFAM quick change Longevity based on input on other threads on this site about strength and durability, the fact that the 525 is the stock size, allowing me the option to keep the front sprocket (2000mi total) if I choose. Also from the Motowheels site it is lighter than the OEM although heavier than the Alum. I called them and asked about the potential for the chain to rub on the swingarm and they gave assurances that would absolutely not happen. We'll see.

One question for the group, my dealer says removal of the original sprocket/carrier is done simply by removing the left axle nut and pulling the thing out. I've seen other entries on this forum that seemed to indicate otherwise? What's your experience. Also if it's necessary to remove the stock sprocket nuts they're reverse Torx. Any idea what size if this is required?
Thanks guys.

If you got the "longevity" model you got steel. The question is whether you got the quick change kit or just the rear sprocket, both of which Motowheels sells.

AL Rear Sprocket. Just doesn't look like the lightweight ones in any of the kit pics.

True, you only need to remove the left axle nut. BTW, removing the axle nut can be difficult. You will need the proper socket, a long bar and someone to help you hold the bike. You will also need the tool to break the old chain and rivet the new one. The new chain needs to be 106 links long.

An great way to remove the rear axle nuts is an air impact wrench (only for loosening, absolutely not for tightening!).

If you use a cheater bar instead, with the wheel on the ground, gearbox in neutral, foot on brake and a small 2x4 wedged under the back of the wheel, it's not too bad. Also from factory the wheel nuts are torqued way too tight.

I'd rethink the alum rear sprocket, as many miles as you put on your bike you'll be replacing sprockets all the time.

Quote I got from my dealer in Atlanta was $146.39 for the chain, $119.39 for the Z 41 rear sprocket, and $150.00 for 1.5 hours labor. I'm planning on doing it next month.

That sounds overpriced to me..

Been given a quick heads up on discount UK pricing. Its not a 100% comfirmed so if I'm wrong don't shoot me :D

Chain £75
Sprocket £75
1 Hours labour to fit (From my dealer thats £55)

And I'm guessing all the above is plus tax so in the UK add another 20%.

I'm probably going to get the sprocket but go for a gold chain as it will be roughly £20 more.

I was quoted 2-3 hours labor from one place for the sprocket change and 1 hour from the other dealer. I chose wisely. I went with the lightweight quick change Driven 41T rear, new AEM flange, DID chain and stayed with 525 instead of going with the 520 conversion. Getting it put on and the 600 mile service Saturday.
