I will have sprocket/chain upgrade done this week

1 hour to change the two sprockets is a deal. You've got to take a good bit of stuff off to get to that front sprocket (slave cylinder, etc)

I was quoted 2-3 hours labor from one place for the sprocket change and 1 hour from the other dealer. I chose wisely. I went with the lightweight quick change Driven 41T rear, new AEM flange, DID chain and stayed with 525 instead of going with the 520 conversion. Getting it put on and the 600 mile service Saturday.

True, I guess I'm at risk for it taking longer, but they seem pretty straight. I'm also having the 600mi and Rizoma brake/clutch resevoirs installed. I've done most everything else on it, but I'm not a tech.

An great way to remove the rear axle nuts is an air impact wrench (only for loosening, absolutely not for tightening!).

If you use a cheater bar instead, with the wheel on the ground, gearbox in neutral, foot on brake and a small 2x4 wedged under the back of the wheel, it's not too bad. Also from factory the wheel nuts are torqued way too tight.

Thanks buddy, great advice, I happen to have an air impact wrench, and got the chain breaker so hopefully all set. Much better than a cheater bar and a second person wrestling the bike.

The part that's a rip is the fact I got a 520 front rean QC with sprocket AND DID 520 ERVR3 with hub for $500.

You're going to get a heavy sprocket that still requires hub removal and no front for more or less the same.

Funny, I got the same thing (front/rear sprocket, DID Gold 525, QC Hub) for $416. Only mine will last longer.....

Lol, yes the 520 set is more expensive... I also didn't shop around much, just used my mil-discount at motowheels.

Anybody else have any reviews of riding with the 41T rear? I'm still debating. Looks like new Panigale R comes with the 41T rear. Not sure what that tells me.

Oh I'm sure it's cool a hell. I'm just affraid to turn my non-track mountain and commuter bike too "trackie" and end up regretting it.

Well if it means anything, my Pani is strictly a street bike for me. I prefer the RC8R for the track...

Yeah, you're the main one basically convincing me to do it with your earlier comments regarding the fact it is actually smoother even with the added power, and keeps the front end down better. I had all but figured I didn't want it until I read that....damnit. ;)

I don't want to lead anyone astray, but every other bike I've owned I've done -1/+2. This bike obviously has more trq than an inline and +2 is good enough. But yeah when I'm playing around at the red lights, it takes off so much better.

If you're stuck, get a 520 kit with a QC and get both rear sprockets? Get it cut for the 41, and if you don't like it cut it further for the 39.

I just talked to my dealer, and the Ducati chain will only be $121. They haven't released the price for the sprocket yet.

As for the heat kit, he has several ordered. As for installation, covered under warranty, of course, but we only have until the end of the year to take advantage of this free kit/install.

My two lincolns:
I've put a little over 600 miles on the setup now, both track and street. The 41T definitely wakes the bike up at any rev. Butt dyno would swear there's another ~15hp (there isn't, it just feels that way). It's by no means a subtle difference. On the track the tighter spacing helps with selecting just the right gear for the corner instead of being too high/too low in the rev range for drive out of a turn. On the street it means third gear roll-ons result in some very impressive front wheel lift :D. The Panigale is geared pretty tall in 6th, so the usual disadvantage of a larger rear sprocket (revs too high at cruising speed on the freeway) are negated. In all, there is no downside to this imho except for the initial cost.

Initially I think I said to think twice about the upgrade unless your chain/sprocket are worn and in need of replacement, but the more I ride the bike the more I'd be inclined to recommend dropping the coin on an aftermarket 520 w/41T. You notice the difference every time you ride the bike and there's simply no better bang-for the buck mod out there (nor is there a better grin per dollar).

As for the 520 vs. the 525, don't be afraid of the 520. Chain manufacturers put a lot more R&D into the 520 sized chains than any other size. And though I have no idea what the tensile strength of the stock 525 is on the Panigale, I'd bet it has less tensile strength than a high quality 520.

For instance, the DID 525 VX (which is probably a higher quality than the stock chain) is rated at 8,580 lbs. The 520 ERV3? 8,660 lbs.

I'm glad to hear all that. My 14/39, is close enough the the 15/41, I think I will hold off. But considering Ducati themselves reccommended it, this is the review I would expect, so thanks!

I'd go the $30 or $40 more and get a DID x ring chain instead of the oem

again, I have spoken to a UK dealer and they advise they will NOT fit a 41 rear to my Pani during a service as it needs to be done in conjunction with a new map from Ducati as it will effect the TC..??..Asked can i fit it .>?>..up to you but IF anything happens / or goes wrong with the bike it will be warranty void !!!!

Weird.....the upgrade 41 tooth pack from ducati is not out in uk until June earliest...

alll this seems strange !

Would love to do the upgrade, but not gonna take the risk in doing it myself....

damn it, seems usa has different advice.?

I am having the conversion done at the end of March from my dealer. They said that an update needs to be installed with the Chain/sprocket. I don't remember if they said because of the traction control or speed sensor.

My dealer (who is always right lol), said that last upmap IS the upmap. There isn't yet another. Chains available with the 2 extra links $121.
