I will have sprocket/chain upgrade done this week

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

My dealer (who is always right lol), said that last upmap IS the upmap. There isn't yet another. Chains available with the 2 extra links $121.

I've talked to two dealers now that said there is a "flash" or upmap for the new sprocket. Different from the Nov '12 upmap. Neither have it yet and thought it would be April.

again, I have spoken to a UK dealer and they advise they will NOT fit a 41 rear to my Pani during a service as it needs to be done in conjunction with a new map from Ducati as it will effect the TC..??..Asked can i fit it .>?>..up to you but IF anything happens / or goes wrong with the bike it will be warranty void !!!!

Weird.....the upgrade 41 tooth pack from ducati is not out in uk until June earliest...

alll this seems strange !

Would love to do the upgrade, but not gonna take the risk in doing it myself....

damn it, seems usa has different advice.?

People have been doing this for decades, there really isn't much of a risk.

I think bronch is right, there will be a new flash end of March.

In the Ducati letter to the dealers that can be downloaded here:

page 2 reads:

Please be informed that the 41-tooth rear sprocket, the corresponding drive chain and the specific ECU
software will be available from the end of March
at a discounted price. For further details please refer
to the Service Bulletin that will be released by the end of March.

My dealer had the map show up two days ago. Should be applied when I pick it up today.

Please ask your dealer if the name of new ECU software you are getting is:

J01100020204.mot

If that is the case, then it is not the "new" one that will become available by the end of March according to the Ducati letter.

Will do, I know it isn't the upmap that's been out for awhile.

Questions for Ducati: If this is true, understand the bike (ECU) has no idea what sprocket is on it.

Will it be required for the 41? Several people already have a 41, and love it without this.

Will it hurt if you don't have the 41? What if you install it and the sprocket, then later change sprockets?

I have 14/39 (as do others), will this benefit us as the ratio is close enough?

I am thinking this software allows lower gearing, i.e. all the electronics perform more effectively (ABS, DTC, etc) when we lower our gearing. Because it can't know, unless they allow us to input it on the screen.

This, same reason why they refused to let reviewers change the tires in conjunction with using the DTC.

I can't remember, do you already have the 41T sprocket on your bike?

They're installing mine today, but they'll flash later when it comes in and wonder if there's anything I should be aware of.

Had it for a couple of weeks without issue. May seem stupid to others, but I turn DTC off or 1 and ABS in race to 1.

If gearbox ratios are unchanged and tire diameter is unchanged, the ECU can easily determine the front sprocket - rear sprocket ratio. ECU can read engine RPMs, the gear being used and wheel speed, it is simple arithmetic. The ECU could react differently depending on the front sprocket - rear sprocket ratio it detects.

hey guys,

my dealer here in holland told me to go for a 14t front sprocket instead.

that would be the same as 15-42 for as far as i know?

costs for me are 110 euros.

can you guys tell me a YES or a NO NO haha :p

any experiences with the 14t front?

i think the 14t front wil be almost the same.. but then again i am not a specialist :p

please help me out guys

Greets from Amsterdam

The final drive ratio is close. More like a 15-41. A guideline is -1 front = +2 rear.

BUT you will experience more wear on the front, versus less wear on rear if you go up. Is it that important? Not really, but if you want to split hairs...

If you did both, you'd likely have clearance issues. My impression is it's +2 rear or -1 front, not both.

also i had some issues with my chain rubbing my termi's and the clearance between the cans and the chain wil also be bigger so you the risk of hitting the cans is also gone.. says my dealer :p

yes i saw that so it wil go like 5km/h less.. haha i drive in Amsterdam and sometimes on the freeway :p:p so i want more Low end and Midrange :D:D
