Annie Seel, what a great lady, she has some balls!

Speaking as a HP4 "carbon" owner, the 1199R is well within my budget. So according to your stipulations, I can "diss" if I want. But I won't.

Fact of the matter is the reviewers are talking about performance characteristics you prolly can't even feel, let alone control. Least a guy like me is honest I'd be a red smear anywhere at -7 Slick mode on my HP4. So the reviews are just validation that you made the right choice.

I love my bike. The Panigale doesn't maie me want it like the 1st sight of a s1k did. All buying one would do for ME (meaning this doesn't apply to anyone except me) is complete the shallow goal of showing ppl I can buy what they can't afford. If that was the goal, I'd just tell ppl how much the watch I wear to work as a Verizon tech costs (hint: it's a Rado)

I am very happy that you love your bike, and I apologize if I offended you in any way. I have loved Ducati's since child hood. I have owned nothing but Ducati's. And as you say there are not many people who can ride a superbike to it's potential, and I am not one of the lucky ones by far....But I do track my bikes(1198SP, 1199R) and I ride them fast. However, I also love to ride it to fivebucks sit there have a hot cup of tea on a Sunday morning and have people complement me on how bad ass my bikes look and we talk bikes and racing. Vanity? Maybe. Despite, respect it, do not criticize it for it was not a decision I made for you, I made it for myself for my high. There maybe be people who don't even track their bikes regardless of what make, so what? My friend has a 1198R and he's never tracked in his life so what? He also has a F458 Challenge Stradale he's never tracked so what?

Share the love baby, not the hate!

Viva Ducati!!!!!!!!

P.S. Anyone know what the present deal is with WSBK and the restrictor issues on the Pani's? Last I heard they increased the diameter of the restrictors from 50mm to 52mm after Monza.

Rado is pretty low on the scale of luxury watches. Even Rolex is ONLY somewhere in the middle.

Agreed. I would say Rolex is on the low end of luxury watches. Honestly I'm into watches and don't know a thing about Rados lol. Oh well...

In a test down here between the HP 4 the RSV Factory and a Panigale S ( there was no R available), it was summed up like this...

" The Ducati 1199 polarised testers, but those that loved it, really loved it, as its a bike that offers more character than the other pair put together. For some, the character is why they ride, and this hot, red, angry Italian is the two wheeled caricature of what motorcycling looks to them, and sounds to them as well"
" Shy, mild and predicatble are not hallmarks of the rider who takes this beast home, it delivers on potency, when in the right hands and set up right, using the similar potency of its in built systems."

" the Panigale is a grumpy, noisy, incredibly involving bike to ride, which really appealed to the most experienced testers, the ones who loved the feeling of a bike that is akin to riding around with a huge neon " look at me!" sign floating above them."

" Liking the Panigale or not is such a subjective thing. It does have some flaws, but it also lays people's hair back like nothing else before it - and that is where subjectivity deserts the building and the devil jumping on your shoulder skewers Jiminy Cricket, and you fire the angry lump of red at the horizon with a grin on your face only your first conquest would recognise. That is it's strength. And one thing is certain, you will never forget your first ride on a Panigale"

The other bike reviews were all about the technicalities of the bike, and you can see from above what a Ducati does to seemingly normal men. Again you either want an efficient " tool" or something that moves your soul...your choice.

PS To answer TWR, yes the restrictors in WSBK will be removed now ( there is formula with race wins etc) so lets we what happens.

Cheers

DucSyd great post and thanks for the WSBK information.

Time to release the hounds of hell on WSBK and Claim some Championships.

Carlos Checa - I personally like and hope he his well enough to win.

Ayrton Badovini - In my personal opinion needs to be traded for Haga.

DucSydAyrton Badovini - In my personal opinion needs to be traded for Haga.

As much as I love the "Samurai of Slide", he is no longer the future of WSBK and his last few years were just collecting a paycheck.

I'm very impressed with what Loriz Baz is doing on the ZX-10R, would love to see him on the 2014 1199R F14. If Checa does decide to retire, then they should promote Niccolo Canepa from Superstock to SBK. He had a one-off ride already on the SBK 1199 at Donington and he finished as the first 1199, in front of both Checa and Badovini.

Plus have you seen Niccolo's on-board videos on YouTube? He's insanely talented - must have learned that from his days trying to tame the Ducati GP9:

On Board Canepa Jerez Ducati 1199 Panigale - YouTube

Canepa is no joke. I watched him race in Donnington very impressive. During qualifying he actually placed first until Sykes ran the following lap. Sykes has a rediculously powerful bike I don't see how the four bangers can be allowed an output of 230+hp and the Ducs be restricted to 210-215. Atleast according to the commentary this is what's happenning...isn't it?

I love the "Samurai of Slide" I was hoping to have him take Ducati to another championship. You're right it does look like he's just there to collect a paycheck. He kinda gave it his best against Spies and then just completely dropped off after that season.

I like that!

I have a neighbor that stops by if he sees me out. He's not a motorcycle guy, but like many of my friends tell me I think he lives vicariously through me. The first time he stopped and saw the Panigale in my garage I started it for him - in the garage mind you. He got a huge smile listening to it buck and hiss at us like a mad snake. Then I turned it off and started my Ninja 1000. Before laugh, the Ninja has a FULL Akrapovik exhaust with no cats. Even I had to laugh out loud at how lame it sounded after the Ducati.

I expected this. The Pani is a great, fun, visceral bike but Ducati definitely need to do more development with it and to deny that is to wear rose tinted glasses. There's a lot of new tech in there which needs to bed down, as is the case with any new ideas (or is Ducati somehow immune to teething troubles?).

The HP4 is the same - they eventually got the engine right with the 2012 but the first attempt at the suspension isn't perfect by all accounts. The Aprilia refined it's electronics wih the 2013 but is now down on power next to the others. It's a constant carousel and right now I just can't jump on with the Pani until they sort out the issues.

I think the really interesting comparison will be the 2014 Pani / S1000RR / RSV4 models.

By what accounts is the suspension not perfect on the HP4? Reviews rave about it.

if bmw drop the stupid pirate look, maybe then i maybe willing to test ride it! :D

for me, they also need to make the swing arm in black in order for me to seriously consider purchasing one.

I still dont love it but that looks a hell of a lot better than what they look like now. i dont understand how bmw is not conpletely ashamed of that design. Beauty in the eye of the beholder my ass , the attraction is to what it can do not how it looks. Its the young blonde with the rich man effect, or maybe young woman really do find old men more attractive. I hate the s1000 because I so badly wanted to like it.

Do the haters here understand that BMW went from zero to over 20% of the liter sport bike market in 2 years, and keep on taking market share from everyone and winning just about every head-to-head review of the class?

I briefly considered the S1000RR, and I love my Panigale with no regrets whatsoever, but sheesh, such hate just because of its looks?

You must be the design freaks that buy Dyson vacuums/fans and Bang & Olufsen audio at ridiculous premiums over competitive products because they look so great and likely because a hint of snobbery as well.

Both are awesome bikes....sold my S1000RR in Motorrad colors for my Pani...:D

But if I had the extra cash...I would have kept my Sthou and bought the Pani just the same. So I can have the best inline 4 and best Vtwin sportbikes in my garage. :D

Darn! Wife didnt allow it!!! So had to sell the Sthou :( to get the Duke.

I have a dyson lol

I don't hate the BMW but I do find it dorky looking. I also think its VERY over rated in the sense that people think they will be faster on it than a properly set up panigale or rsv4 etc. in my experience at our level the bikes don't make that much difference, it's mostly the rider. Get what you like and ride.

Now get rid of the cat and the exhaust pipe.....maybe something similar to the Pani and the bike's score in appearance would go way up:D

Ummmm...S1000RR do have "painted" swingarms available, do your research. I personally enjoyed the brushed aluminum look, it resembled the GP look. On the other hand, why bother stating anything? If one doesn't like the bike bad enough then he/she will find an excuse to brush it aside. So cling on to the headlights and texture of the swingarms, gents. Cheers.
