Speaking as a HP4 "carbon" owner, the 1199R is well within my budget. So according to your stipulations, I can "diss" if I want. But I won't.
Fact of the matter is the reviewers are talking about performance characteristics you prolly can't even feel, let alone control. Least a guy like me is honest I'd be a red smear anywhere at -7 Slick mode on my HP4. So the reviews are just validation that you made the right choice.
I love my bike. The Panigale doesn't maie me want it like the 1st sight of a s1k did. All buying one would do for ME (meaning this doesn't apply to anyone except me) is complete the shallow goal of showing ppl I can buy what they can't afford. If that was the goal, I'd just tell ppl how much the watch I wear to work as a Verizon tech costs (hint: it's a Rado)
Rado is pretty low on the scale of luxury watches. Even Rolex is ONLY somewhere in the middle.
DucSydAyrton Badovini - In my personal opinion needs to be traded for Haga.
In a test down here between the HP 4 the RSV Factory and a Panigale S ( there was no R available), it was summed up like this...
" The Ducati 1199 polarised testers, but those that loved it, really loved it, as its a bike that offers more character than the other pair put together. For some, the character is why they ride, and this hot, red, angry Italian is the two wheeled caricature of what motorcycling looks to them, and sounds to them as well"
" Shy, mild and predicatble are not hallmarks of the rider who takes this beast home, it delivers on potency, when in the right hands and set up right, using the similar potency of its in built systems."
" the Panigale is a grumpy, noisy, incredibly involving bike to ride, which really appealed to the most experienced testers, the ones who loved the feeling of a bike that is akin to riding around with a huge neon " look at me!" sign floating above them."
" Liking the Panigale or not is such a subjective thing. It does have some flaws, but it also lays people's hair back like nothing else before it - and that is where subjectivity deserts the building and the devil jumping on your shoulder skewers Jiminy Cricket, and you fire the angry lump of red at the horizon with a grin on your face only your first conquest would recognise. That is it's strength. And one thing is certain, you will never forget your first ride on a Panigale"
The other bike reviews were all about the technicalities of the bike, and you can see from above what a Ducati does to seemingly normal men. Again you either want an efficient " tool" or something that moves your soul...your choice.
PS To answer TWR, yes the restrictors in WSBK will be removed now ( there is formula with race wins etc) so lets we what happens.
Cheers
I expected this. The Pani is a great, fun, visceral bike but Ducati definitely need to do more development with it and to deny that is to wear rose tinted glasses. There's a lot of new tech in there which needs to bed down, as is the case with any new ideas (or is Ducati somehow immune to teething troubles?).
The HP4 is the same - they eventually got the engine right with the 2012 but the first attempt at the suspension isn't perfect by all accounts. The Aprilia refined it's electronics wih the 2013 but is now down on power next to the others. It's a constant carousel and right now I just can't jump on with the Pani until they sort out the issues.
I think the really interesting comparison will be the 2014 Pani / S1000RR / RSV4 models.
for me, they also need to make the swing arm in black in order for me to seriously consider purchasing one.
if bmw drop the stupid pirate look, maybe then i maybe willing to test ride it!

I have a dyson lolDo the haters here understand that BMW went from zero to over 20% of the liter sport bike market in 2 years, and keep on taking market share from everyone and winning just about every head-to-head review of the class?
I briefly considered the S1000RR, and I love my Panigale with no regrets whatsoever, but sheesh, such hate just because of its looks?
You must be the design freaks that buy Dyson vacuums/fans and Bang & Olufsen audio at ridiculous premiums over competitive products because they look so great and likely because a hint of snobbery as well.
