K&N Makes 1199 Oil Filter

Well Jeff I bought some and it will go in my bike next week....

Thanks Steve. So if I see a new thread from you with the title "Blew up my 1199 after oil change " I'll know what happened. :D

Either that or you will see a thread saying this is my last post... I have a gun pointed to my head... :p

OK - I need someone to report experience with them on the 1199. I've heard from a respectable race tuner that a while back K&N oil filters had a bad rap because they caused oil pressure to be higher since the filter media was "better filtering" which equated to less flow. It caused some engine failures that he saw with his own eyes.

Not that is what I've heard from a reputable source. Maybe this was propaganda started by OEMs who wanted you to use their high-profit margin parts, I don't know but figure its worth sharing.

Yes, that was true, regarding some Testastretta engines. We actually got a notice from Ducati on it a few years ago saying that we should avoid using that filter. I don't know if it went to everyone, but they know we build a lot of race bikes so we got it. It wasn't an "official" communication. I don't think it was a "Install this filter and the engine will blow" type of thing, it was more like they had several engine failures on race bikes and the common thread between them was they all had K&N filters on them, so to be on the safe side they were recommending avoiding them. Maybe K&N has changed the filter design since then?

I recall reading somewhere that K&N filters are made by HiFlo Filtro,
which makes lots of OEM stuff anyway.
Anyone have different or verifying info?

Nope, still just worried about this whole "pressure" talk due to the filter media. I'd love to save $25.00 on next weeks oil change, but i'm paranoid.

Not sure anything I say would help with that dude..

just ordered shell advanced 4t ultra 15w 50 and a k&n filter last night and after reading this sticky FUUUUUUUCK that. Im gonna call Ducati first thing in the morning and get one from them. You guys are right. Although it is smart to save $25 bucks on a filter but damn man $25 is not worth risking on a 20k super bike.

i also use k and n filter. this thread is like when i had my first bike and the dealer told me slip ons will ruin your fuel injection. he then tried to sell me a full system. fact is these companies wouldnt be in business if they damaged the product they are used for.

do you really think k and n would make a filter for anybike that would destroy the bike.

ps 2000 miles on mine not one problem

Will agree in whole.

Its the manufacturer who will generally use the cheap parts.

There is nothing wrong with the K and N it looks to have more quality then stock
