K&N Makes 1199 Oil Filter

I've been running the K&N $10 from Walmart.

4 oil changes and no problems at all.

I would not run them on my 848. I'm not worried about it with the 1199

Any updates from people using this oil filter? I just bought an OEM filter and can't tell if it was wise or waste of money. I just don't understand how K&N could be like, $3-10 and OEM $30 with no difference in quality unless we're just paying for the Ducati name.

FWIW, been using K&N filters since I purchased the bike (used them in every Ducati I have owned).

Bike now has over 7000 miles, no issues.

or your bike goes bang and ducati deny your warranty.

I know the warranty should not be denied BUT!!

Well... just to play devil's advocate...

My bike is a 2016 and is no longer under warranty. And even if it were, Ducati would have to prove the non-OEM filter was responsible for the engine failure.

So I'm not convinced.

That being said, out of an abundance of caution, if my bike were under warranty I would use the original filter. But if it's not...

It would be nice if there was technical data to go along with their filters compared to OEM, people wouldn't be so worried.

Almost anything that is purchased from Ducati will be priced considerably higher than if purchased from an outside source. Obviously, in many cases you'll have no choice but to purchase from Ducati if you need a specific genuine OEM part. But there are several items on the bike that can be purchased on the outside... oil filters, air filters, fasteners, clamps, spark plugs, lubricants, specialty tools, etc. If Ducati put their logo on an oil filter manufactured by K&N, it would likely sell for the same price or more than the filter they currently supply. Look at the spark plugs... you can buy the identical spark plug at a fraction of the cost if purchased from an outside source. I've been running with the K&N oil filter for years without any problems.
