I think the dealer will tell you they have to witness it occurring to have them follow through with it. My buddy has an 848 with headlights that fog ( dealer told him to bring it in so they can see it before they put in for warrenty work and order replacment parts.. I'm in the same boat you are. My bike missed it by 1,617 bikes...going to have to wait n see.. I haven't taken delivery of my bike yet...the wait is killing me....

My dealer has replaced it without question each time. They are excellent. That said; I' e never had a fogging issue; only the malfunctions.

no the dealer will probably replace it w/o question if you simply say you saw it BUT you probably don't want to get it replaced unless you actually have the problem. at the very end of your warranty, years and miles later, maybe so...but if you don't have the problem, i wouldn't do it today. ymmv

if the VIN for your S > 11650 or your base > 11245 then you already have the new part according to the bulletin.

....! I have a 2013 and I am still less than that number, but i have not experienced the dreaded dash issue yet. I wonder if I should say to my dealer that I am experiencing this issue to get this update before my warranty expires.

i cannot see why you would worry, if its not playing up then its fine and if it does when your out of warranty im sure they would stand by it as a known issue?

I am not sure anyone else shares your confidence in that regard... I see nothing that would indicate Ducatis willingness to extend an extra warranty on the dash... Hence the concern of many on here as to what happens to us and our bikes post warranty...

IMO we are entitled to be looked after under warranty in (perpetuity as original owners).

I think you will find that DUCATI will have deemed the intermitant switch fault to be fixed.
Either you have the latest dash revision, or you will be covered by the VIN indentification for the revised wiring loom.

The fogging will continue to be a potential safety issue, and should be addressed accordingly IMO.
It will most likely only happen if we push for it as a group.
In the interests of a fair go, IMO we are entitled to this in the very least as early adopters of DUCATI's top shelf/premium product, and as well as paying for the privelige to be their beta testers.

The ball is well and truely in DUCATI's court, in order to show good faith/good will on the fogging issue.

Cheers

Ducati are aware of the issue and from what i have heard they are working on two solutions and are approx just over month away from release

dash that i have seen that fog have usually been very tiny amounts that make little or no difference to vision of the digits but there may be worse emamples

Why do you need to do the stupid letter if there is a fix available?

For the fogging, not the switch gear issue. I want it on record that my bike has this issue before my warranty runs out, despite being on its second dash.

The bulletin lists vins for the S model. but the S-ABS model has a "4" as opposed to "8" in the vin so the ABS models are excluded from this bulletin as well?

This left control switch malfunction just started happening to my bike last week. I have been away from the forum and thought it may have just been an isolated incident. After seeing this post, I was pretty blown away by how many bikes this has been happening to.

From my experience with the issue now, it seems to have an onset after about 15-20 minutes of riding. Again, likely showing the issue may be heat related. I stopped by my dealer and told the mechanic about it. He didn't even look at the bike, just told me he knew about the issue and had some of the wiring harnesses on order and they should arrive sometime next week.

To date, the issues I have had with my bike have been the rear suspension linkage rod snapping in half, very hard starts (charcoal canister removed by dealer fixed the issue) and now this wiring harness issue. I can definitely see some lemon law applicability here.

I will be sending in a letter, so we can all hopefully get some piece of mind that our bikes parts are going to last past the warranty period.

Yep, I've had 2 of the worst examples so far in that they were frosted over so bad that initially i couldn't read the speed let alone anything else. Admitedly the second dash cleared within about 10 Kms after start up and that's when the indicators stopped functioning correctly.
The first dash had never been wet and when it foged up, and it took over 60 Kms to clear after start up. The first time it foged was after we had a change in weather:eek:

I do hope DUCATI can fix the problem with the dash as it's otherwise a wonderfull machine.

Cheers

This is my first post, so hello to all from Hong Kong. I've just had the Electric Wiring Harness (#51029281A) fitted under warranty, and it appears to have fixed my right indicator/up-toggle problem, without having to replace the dash.

That's what I want to hear...replacing a dash that otherwise seems perfectly fine makes no sense to me...a wiring issue in the switch makes alot more sense ...thx Chesty and Bolds.

Sent my letter a week ago... so far no response from Ducati...

Check digit 4/8

Just found out that the mismatched digit before the "C" is a check digit and can be different. This means that if my bike model is part of the service bulletin, then I missed it by only a few, Whew! My bike was made in March, it took less than a month from factory to dealer, it appears.

this is the vin for my s-abs: ZDM14BPW8CBxxxxxx

once upon a time, i thought this might have been the vin format for our bikes: http://ducati1199.com/ducati-1199/1396-recall-doesnt-make-sense.html#post21633

there is a solution to this problem just issued by the factory ask your dealer about bulletin 881 which has some additional wiring etc

Good man bolds :)

Best news I've had today and I'm glad I held off pushing for a replacement.

Hey bolds, I wonder what Tips & Tricks No.63 is all about - its mentioned in SB881?

That one is basically saying to not keep the DDA stick connected when not using the bike as it is powered all the time when plugged in and drains the battery
