i highly recommend it.

i even use rossi. only because i feel bad crashing a real rider lol.

I know this is kinda out of context but I would say the same about us people.. we are in no way perfect and are flawed human beings. Its the moral judgment that we make in our lives that put us in the good or the bad side of the spectrum...

And some people accept us inspite of our flaws while others may outright hate us.. its not to look at things as black and white and it can be gray..

Incredible insight. Bikes are just like people, they have different personalities and character traits. Naturally we will mesh with some and clash with others, while another persons compatability with bikes or people will be the exact opposite of our liking.

Perfection is found through imperfection. What many might consider a flaw I consider a strength. I have an innate attraction towards petite women with dependant traits. I find it endearing, i enjoy caring for them, and looking out for their wants and needs. It makes me feel needed. Conversely, many men want their women to be independant, they don't enjoy being asked for help, they don't enjoy providing for them but would rather their girls be self sufficient.

It all comes down to personal preference and some are madly in love with Ducati bikes and all the quirks involved. But reliability and poor quality control aren't quirks any owner wants. Some ignore them cause the positive are greater than the negatives, others refuse to deal with it. Comes down to personalities.

outhouse i dont take what is said here personally as i know where i am and i know what will be said before its said just not by who. i bashed that bike. i said i road the white pani and it was scary for that bike. i also road my friends 1198s which isnt set up for me and at no time did i have a confidence issue with it. i was commenting on that particular bike.

There is nothing wrong with Whites S if he fixed the oil leak. It needs a rider.

You should be helping your buddy get hat suspension set up, tire pressures checked so he can sell it easier.

Telling us how bad a bike rides that isn't set up, isn't helping us or him.

What I honestly think will happen is the bikes will change, but the post and complaints will remain the same no matter what brand you guys ride. Ask for help and youll get it, most of us will bend over backwards to help out our brothers in need out.

Debating dumping mine to a local dealer that buys bikes perhaps along with the HP4. Sorry to hear about all the problems man, its truly amazing to see them keep coming up. Hard to believe you've been through so many and all have had such issues, does speak towards the quality.

Mark NYC

Appreciate your support for Mark and White there Gunny after what they have gone through.. guess people will never understand their situation unless they experience it themselves..

I too wish them both the best of luck and may they have a trouble free riding experience with whatever machine they decide to go with..

Thanks Acowsik. My post was mostly directed toward Mark since I've actually broken bread with him and tutored him most in Ducati since it's his first, and mine ........um 7th I think?

I dont know White Pani nor ever met him so I really cannot speak on his personality, riding ability, or anything else at all. Granted he has made some very blatant and questionable statements on this forum but Im sure he is a solid guy. Just wanted to clarify this on Mark's behalf as I know his integrity and non offensive nature is sincere. He is NOT on here to raise arguments or start any personal attacks on anyone, or he wouldnt be the type of guy I would hang out with. :D

...i dont take what is said here personally...

This is the take home point. It's an open forum and people should be able to freely express their opinions whether you like them or not. I've had few problems with my 1199, some though. No less than my old R1. I still love this bike and think it's dialed in. Other people may not think so and yet others have had a a lot more problems and hate the bike and hate Ducati. If that's how they respond to it, so be it. Doesn't piss me off or make me think any less of my bike. You shouldn't stoop and call out someone's riding ability of someone you've never seen. Classless.

And for those looking for unity, this isn't a church club. The span of ages that own the 1199 on this forum range from 18-70+, rich, poor, etc... This isn't the Goldwing forum. The reason I like it here is the diversity of opinions, diversity of personalities and those that don't just genuflect to the Ducati name.

YW Gunny.. name's Ashwin BTW (my friends call me Ash).. I have met some good folks here like you, Antihero and a few others who really know their stuff around bikes and I have learnt a great deal reading through the threads and posts here..

If you had seen the SL thread, I admit I made a faux pas there and people just pounced on me like a knife through butter.. I am not the type either to launch personal attacks and I aint tolerating any either..

I prefer to quote facts or whatever I know to the best of my knowledge as blowing hot air isn't gonna get me very far...

Well, I decided to say F*** my S back a month ago when the problem count began to use my second hand to count when using my fingers. ...... english in that sentence, I realize.
So, Im out with my buds on a ride yesterday morning in Clinton and decide to check my oil as I remember when I checked it last week I couldn't see a dam drop in that sight glass. I figured, hey, maybe the oil is still so clean I can't tell. So, Mark & I determined the bike was extremely low, so we stopped by a Harley shop with our other guys and picked up a quart of some Full Syn .... and put it in my bike. My R took an entire quart to top off with 1,000 miles since I got it and it was fine. So then I noticed this little guy:

imgurl

I love when My S leaks from the valve cover, and then two weeks later my R does too! Then, for the last week my R never starts. It takes a good minute or two of cycling on and off, twisting the throttle etc etc to start. I ended up removing the charcoal canister last night and it appears that problem is fixed (thanks AntiHero on your how to) but man how I can't wait for the spring to sell both of these piece of .... Ducati 1199's. I can't wait to NEVER own another Ducati until I die. Its gonna be a great, stress free future not owning any Italian made trash. I can't believe how big of a ....... idiot I am for thinking the R would be "problem-free."

Leaking oil
not starting
clutch issues
dash issues
swingarm/suspension issues

Was Ducati drunk at the wheel when drawing this piece of .... bike up? I mean honestly. I know, I know, the defenders of Ducati will come flame me like they did Mark. I've made three mistakes in my life:
1. 2012 Multistrada
2. 2013 1199S (in white)
3. 2013 1199R

Class dismissed. This hopefully is my last time bitching here because I don't plan on ever owning an 1199/Ducati much into the future.

Can't wait

I agree some people should not own Ducat's you seem to be one .
Your about to make a fourth mistake the R1 .Get a Zx10 instead
You guys have either had .... all to do with bikes or just got lucky with past purchase .
Every bike I have owned has some issue no matter what brand including cars .
I just get the issue fixed and move on instead of crying over first world issues .
You and Mark .... me .

I feel for White Pani and Mark since I had similar issues when I bought my first Ducati which was a 2007 S4RS.
I was extremely disappointed that a bike in that price range could leave me stranded twice and would spend close to two months in the shop which made me come close to be done with the brand. Never mind a warped rotor to boot.
After giving DNA a piece of my mind I bought two more Ducatis which have been problem free (knock on carbon :D).
BTW, I still got that S4RS and wouldn't want to be without it ( my wife loves to accompany me on it).
I have yet to see a piece of equipment that is without flaws and to be honest that is not what I'm looking for even though I'm told I'm a perfectionist.
I want something that stirs my soul when I get on it and take it on my favorite routes.
Meeting some awesome people that ride Ducatis made me feel that I'm part of a family. Play nice kids :D

WhitePani...Dont take this the wrong way, but did you ever think both the bikes had to do with you modifying them as soon as you got them. I remember early on your complaints about all kinda of bolts falling off, and us joking about needing a ton of Locktite on it. And then all kinda of other stuff, and now the "R" is all jacked up, but I can see aftermarket parts on it in pics...You ever think maybe just buy the bike and ride it, dont start loosening all kinds of bolts and then putting them back, and modifying everything....Maybe leave it alone and see how it is for a few months. Its just hard to believe ALL of your bikes have the same fate, but there are thousands of Panigale's sold an only a fraction of people have problems, but you have it on all your bikes... ?

Or its just a Munchausen by Proxy, with your bike as the child :)

My '13 R has been problem-free after about 6 visits to the shop in the first 800mi. That .... majorly pissed me off as it should with anyone. After that, flawless. Maybe I'm slightly lucky, but I don't feel that way. I think it's more like par for the course with exotic machinery.

I don't excuse Ducati for ....... things up with mine or to a massively greater extent Mark's or White13's (multiple) bikes..or many others, but I do think that even a Pani in proper working order from the factory takes more time to sort out than a cookie-cutter Japanese bike, of which I've owned a half-dozen and none ever held a candle to my Ducatis. It flat out takes time to sort the suspension, tire pressures, engine maps, etc on this bike more than others because there's so much more stuff to go wrong. I don't think all the F-22s were flawless on delivery either. ;-)

That all said, owning any Ducati superbike is still (a giant cliché) like dating a high-maintenance Italian supermodel. But it has its upsides, like the crowds they draw at gas stations, the kids that high-five you just because they think your bike is awesome, the free model shoots, and hell, it's even improved my marriage! (Yeah, this is not even including the riding experience) With all the BS I put up with from the Panigale, I've learned to not sweat the small stuff with my wife who is SIGNIFICANTLY lower maintenance. Why does that matter? Well she sees how happy I am after returning from a ride on the Pani and is now totally on-board with a Lamborghini Gallardo Superlegerra purchase. In fact she wants me to get it as soon as possible. :)

This forum will always have drama. The OF may have less content/members, but at least all of it is about bikes, and not personalities. Moderators cannot control that, and shouldn't.

If I dumped everything I loved because of problems, I would be divorced and walking everywhere I go. :D

I will retract the .... me part . Mechanical stuff always is going to have issues don't get married that has more issues .

I have over 30 years experience of Japanese bikes and this is my first Ducati. I have had tracked a lot different Ducati's and I have always loved them for their Performance and looks but I have never owned one. Before I bought the Panigale I did a lot of research on Ducati by talking to friends who owned them and mechanics who worked on them because I have always heard that they were very high maintenance, temperamental on the street, etc. but every bike I owned had some Achilles Heel issue. I truly expected the maintenance/Issues to be worse on the 1199 than what people are complaining about on this forum but I went ahead with the purchase because of the demo ride. I was fortunate to ride the S1000RR and 1199 back to back through the canyons, the BMW on the way down and the 1199 on the way back. Both bikes were extremely impressive, the BMW felt very settled and powerful and 1199 felt powerful and nimble. I realized that the BMW I had to muscle around the turns due to the higher center of gravity while the 1199 center of gravity was lower and I felt more one with the bike (effortless) but the rawness required my full attention. Both Bikes I knew were going to be crap in terms of maintenance due to the history of Ducati's (Pani was to new for a data point) and the issues they were having with the S1000RR. I chose the 1199 due to its handling, light weight and power to weight ratio and I took a gamble for reliability and maintenance, so far my gamble is paying off.

Maybe I'm lucky too. I bought a "leftover" 2012 base model in March of this year. Now have almost 5,000 miles on it. Other than the hard starting issue which was solved with the removal of the charcoal canister and having to bleed the clutch periodically, this bike is everything I hoped it would be.
