Look what MY R does!

Doesn't really require much . A little mechanical knowledge maybe then some of you won't piss your pants when there is a gasket leaking oil .

Don't think anyone is pissing their pants at all, .... breaks you fix it. Its more when the warranty ends then your faced with either fixing it yourself or ponying up the dough to have it done. Expecting people to be mechanics to own something is ....... idiotic. I've wrenched and built many a bike/car doesn't mean I feel I should be wasting my time and effort fixing a brand new bike if/when it does break.

Had a 01 929RR Honda that never once broke down. Yet people seem to break down a lot on these machines

For what it's worth I might as well chime in.

I bought this bike, not cause I rode it and decided it was for me. I watched it at the track, on the track from the vantage point of going into corners with it and watching it come out of corners. That it is undisputively the sexiest bike out there. I've owned Ducatis before and I wanted this one.

I rode my R and fell in love, it's visceral, and scary in a grat way!

Everyone here has legitimate gripes and concerns. I worry listening to others problems on this forum, and thank God I haven't had any (yet).

I look at my bike like I look at strippers....I secretly love them, but I deny it so it doesn't hurt. They are expensive, and cause heartache. But when they're on, it's a blast!

I will leave this with a joke.

A guy is with this awesome looking women. One day his buddy comes to him. And says " dude you have to leave her, she's cheating on you"! Everyone is ....... her and she's pissing away your cash. So he does. He decides the next girl will be different and goes for the safest, fattest, ugly chick he can find, cause she will be loyal and frugle, which she is.

About a month later his buddy sees him walking by with the hot girl again and he stops him. "Dude! What are you doing?" His answer? I rather share my pie than eat .... alone!

I love this bike and I am prepared to eat .... and share my pie with you guys here! I am learning about this bike from everyone here, the good and bad.

I rather hear the bad about this thing and be prepared to deal with it than sit back, read and say wow better him than me! The point is we need to share the bad in order to help others here not have it happen to them. The fact that people get emotional about the bad is normal and part of life, don't brow beat anyone for it. Help make the experience better for all is, and should always be the point.

That's all.

P.S. If my favorite stripper has ganerria and you know it (maybe you even gave it to her) let me know as I don't think Obama care will cover the shots required...lo.

I just wanna know, was his second girl a Goldwing or Fat boy? :D

Did I say be a mechanic ? . It's a leaking rocker cover gasket FFS. Starting a thread and pissing and moaning about it is idiotic .
Buying anything mechanical and having expectations that it will be perfect and never fail is idiotic .

I think Vanquisher's point is that you shouldn't have to be replacing head gaskets on a brand new bike. Would you want your new car in the shop every other week, even if its covered under the warranty? No, and bikes are no exception, cutting edge tech or not.

It's not a head gasket . The rocker cover weeps oil no big deal get it fixed on your next service .
My BMW S1000 had to have it's conrod bolts replaced which made me miss two races of my series my RSV4 had major oil leaks and so have many others My Toyota Prado has had many recalls my Air Condition .... it's motor and had to be replaced my Watch started losing time and needed to be fixed .
My KTM Adventure pissed out oil from the rear head and the ABS sensor failed my wifes Audi A4 electric windows stopped working so did the air conditioner in my VW van .
Ever had a I phone those things .... up all the time so when you find something without any faults ever be sure to let us all know .
Problem with people today they expect perfection without being able to deliver it themselves .

My iPhone has been faultless Wilson.
So too had my Honda.
But the reality is your spot on. First world problems.

2009 CBR600rr, 12k miles on the clock...Flawless with the exception of the rider. ;) Nothing is perfect, but there is no question Ducati could improve their QC.

97 zx6e, 12 years. [carbs cleaned and new batt bi-yearly]
10 husaberg 450 FE, 3 years flawless
04 Honda f-12x turbo, 9 years [plugs and batt]
11 ducati 848 3 summers. [2 screws vibrated out]

13 panigale S 2 weeks. Priceless ;)

Perfect example . While your Berg has been flawless others have had issues . No product is without problems some just get lucky some don't the difference is in the way you handle it .

Well, I decided to say F*** my S back a month ago when the problem count began to use my second hand to count when using my fingers. ...... english in that sentence, I realize.
So, Im out with my buds on a ride yesterday morning in Clinton and decide to check my oil as I remember when I checked it last week I couldn't see a dam drop in that sight glass. I figured, hey, maybe the oil is still so clean I can't tell. So, Mark & I determined the bike was extremely low, so we stopped by a Harley shop with our other guys and picked up a quart of some Full Syn .... and put it in my bike. My R took an entire quart to top off with 1,000 miles since I got it and it was fine. So then I noticed this little guy:

I love when My S leaks from the valve cover, and then two weeks later my R does too! Then, for the last week my R never starts. It takes a good minute or two of cycling on and off, twisting the throttle etc etc to start. I ended up removing the charcoal canister last night and it appears that problem is fixed (thanks AntiHero on your how to) but man how I can't wait for the spring to sell both of these piece of .... Ducati 1199's. I can't wait to NEVER own another Ducati until I die. Its gonna be a great, stress free future not owning any Italian made trash. I can't believe how big of a ....... idiot I am for thinking the R would be "problem-free."

Leaking oil
not starting
clutch issues
dash issues
swingarm/suspension issues

Was Ducati drunk at the wheel when drawing this piece of .... bike up? I mean honestly. I know, I know, the defenders of Ducati will come flame me like they did Mark. I've made three mistakes in my life:
1. 2012 Multistrada
2. 2013 1199S (in white)
3. 2013 1199R

Class dismissed. This hopefully is my last time bitching here because I don't plan on ever owning an 1199/Ducati much into the future.

My future:

Can't wait

I know why the 2012 S was no good. It was the wrong colour.

White Pani,

In case you want to get a head start. Scroll down to section 2-18.

yzf r1 manual

It has all the torque specification for the Bolts, Nuts, Clamps, and Screws on the bike.

By the way, my new '10 Aprilia RSV4R had the same gasket leaking after about 6 months, and that was the model's third year, not even a next gen. Dealer spotted it and fixed it when in for service. Didn't bother me much. (Also had some standard recal issues, and an ever warping plastic gas tank, and an ongoing stalling issue that mapping did seem to improve). Point being, I had just as many if not more issues with that, and it was not next generation. I still loved the bike though.

nice stealership you have there they spotted it and fixed it. when i took mine in for the termi header you know what they did. they called me and said your chain may need a little chain lube. do you think they did it for me? no way. they called me and i was like really you are calling me to say my chain needs lube something that will cost 1 dollar maybe to do. im spending xxx dollars and you wont take the 2 min to put some chain lube on and you want to charge me for that too. I said dont worry ill do it myself. 125 an hour and they wont spray your chain.

Yeah, that would piss me off pretty good. I love my dealer and they are close. One of the main reasons I don't consider the BMW or MV is that my dealer doesn't sell them. Funny, but I think your dealer experience will also map out your total bike experience.

Which dealership was this???

I also had trouble once the r just switched off in the middle of nowhere.then I checked the fuel and it was empty.moral of the story don't always blame the bike.Did you run it in properly like did you read the manual and follow all the instructions and warnings?if not then you shouldn't blame. The bike.you have to run it in for 2500kms and not 1000kms.
