This seems a common theme.......?!
I too had a wash out at the track, on a left hand hair pin, coming out of the corner, a little throttle, bike was pulling out and starting to stand up nicely then the front end was gone! Gutted just doesn't quite cut it.
Pretty much the same as yourself. Most of the left side, controls, front axle nut, fairings..... and the tank
But as you can see my tank isn't quite so bad. Also, fortunately, I was using a set of track fairings which means this has only cost me £730.00 GBP to put right....... very lucky boy!
As the damn thing has been out of action for so long I'm going to leave the tank until the winter, take it off and then repair it. From what I was told they were telling me I will also have to wrap it, but I disagree, most of those small scratches are just in the lacquer. I'm going to mask the painted section, take back the lacquer, re-brush/re-finish the whole exposed aluminum section, new decals and re-lacquer it. There may still be a very small scratch remaining, but hardly noticable...... hopefully!
A huge learning for me though..... This was my first crash/accident on a track day and I've had 20+ of them. Sadly, also on the best, most expensive and most loved bike I've ever owned. I learnt that basically you have to go in the mind set of 'You will crash today'. As silly as that sounds, you will then prepare yourself and the bike that much better for the day. That extra proptection, instead of "Nah, I'll be fine" you will go out and get. Believe me, I was one click away from a bagster tank cover for about £100.00 GBP. Probably cost me double that to repair it later in the year. Spare/old leathers for track days too. Even down to making sure you have a way of getting the bike home if it's un-ridable after etc.
But as the gentleman already said, if you own a machine like this, you are going to want to go give it some on a track at some point?!?!
Still, she's back now
