Small world? Tell me about it! I actually met Stw there and we were talking for about 30 minutes before finally making a connection to the forum. Unless you ran into each other, you must have just missed him as well.

I am sorry about your tank... I remember seeing this post and thought that it might give you something to consider. You have probably been searching all over the place for ideas, but just in case you missed it:

This seems a common theme.......?! :(

I too had a wash out at the track, on a left hand hair pin, coming out of the corner, a little throttle, bike was pulling out and starting to stand up nicely then the front end was gone! Gutted just doesn't quite cut it.

Pretty much the same as yourself. Most of the left side, controls, front axle nut, fairings..... and the tank :( But as you can see my tank isn't quite so bad. Also, fortunately, I was using a set of track fairings which means this has only cost me £730.00 GBP to put right....... very lucky boy!

As the damn thing has been out of action for so long I'm going to leave the tank until the winter, take it off and then repair it. From what I was told they were telling me I will also have to wrap it, but I disagree, most of those small scratches are just in the lacquer. I'm going to mask the painted section, take back the lacquer, re-brush/re-finish the whole exposed aluminum section, new decals and re-lacquer it. There may still be a very small scratch remaining, but hardly noticable...... hopefully!

A huge learning for me though..... This was my first crash/accident on a track day and I've had 20+ of them. Sadly, also on the best, most expensive and most loved bike I've ever owned. I learnt that basically you have to go in the mind set of 'You will crash today'. As silly as that sounds, you will then prepare yourself and the bike that much better for the day. That extra proptection, instead of "Nah, I'll be fine" you will go out and get. Believe me, I was one click away from a bagster tank cover for about £100.00 GBP. Probably cost me double that to repair it later in the year. Spare/old leathers for track days too. Even down to making sure you have a way of getting the bike home if it's un-ridable after etc.

But as the gentleman already said, if you own a machine like this, you are going to want to go give it some on a track at some point?!?!

Still, she's back now :D:D:D

I'm sure I walked past you guys into the service area. I said hey to Nick, grabbed the tank from Jordan and left.

Thanks for the wrap link...

Very nice... Are those the original plastics back on it?

Yeah, originals back on.

I was using the Ducati parts, unpainted, full fairing kit. This kit also comes with headlight and tail light blanks. It's actually really good value for money, the only downside being that you have to then paint it. I got that done on the cheap through a friend. After all it is only for the track!

As I say, in hind sight, I should of used evrything I had, like the blanks and tank covers, even spare cheap levers etc. would of helped. But as I said, very lucky.

Sorry i haven't checked into the forum in a while. I am still making these sliders if your interested. I have not advertised them, as im not setup to fulfill large orders. I hand make and paint each set, so i can do them in any style you want. They are made of carbon fiber with kevlar on the impact ridge. while every crash is different, they have saved several tanks that I am aware of.

Thanks for following up. I'm not sure what the tank will look like. Shop is taking some liberties. We're doing a variation of the R tank, in white, with different painted areas.

I'll be in touch!

Thank you,

Tom

Finally! Took forever to get the tank done but she's back home. The uber exclusive 1 of 1 1199R White Lightening Edition.

Awesome!!! Jordan and the guys did an awesome job. Looks EXCELLENT

An "R" decal would be nice too!

Since it's so different now I'm staying stealth.

Jordan is the man. He's become a good friend over the years as he's worked on my bikes. Heck I've grown close to all the AMS staff. They are an incredible team.

I just checked out the SSSA Jordan did on your 899. Sheesh. At first glance I didn't realize it was an 899. There's nothing he can't do.

Thanks!

Tom

Which track was this at if you don't mind me asking?

Cresson?

Fortunately or unfortunately the fairing graphics are not decals or if they are there's clear coat on top. And I would think CF would be more pricey than OEM panels since I'd have to do the entire bike.

Options none the less!

Thanks...

Tom

Have you priced OEM fairings? CF is cheaper no Joke.

I've priced everything. New, used and the track kit. I'm not a fan of CF for large areas like body panels.

I purchased the entire body panel set for $600 off eBay (Chinese manufacturer). Fit is perfect. Finish is good but the paint / clear coat on leading edges is not great. But for the price it was hard to beat.

Going stealth is awesome. No one will know what's under the hood...gives them something to think about as you smoke em.

Hahaha, thank you! Just waiting on some CF and she'll finally come home.

They're an excellent team. As expected as that is or should be, it's incredibly rare to find. Genuineness at its finest and great people to befriend.
