Low Speed Performance

Driving it correctly.

Never had that issue.

Wont help

On tight stuff you need to drop down to first on hair pins and roll on harder then what your doing at the beginning of the apex.

Never had that issue. Come and ride mine. You will see it.

standard mapping/fueling is .... on the 1199.

A retune via ecu will help but won't solve the problem as the mapping is related to the standard exhaust which is a bottle-neck in the system.

Tune plus full exhaust will solve most of this problem, the noticeable torque hole from 0-5,000rpm will improve greatly.

changing the gearing doesn't solve the problem all it does is move the rpm up at a set speed, if you are below 5500,6000rpm will you still feel that lack of torque and choppyness in the throttle.

I have full custom tune via tuneboy and full akro exhaust. the difference is night and day being able to roll on the throttle at any rpm and having the torque their instantly transforms the bike from being a pig to a joy to ride at lower rpm.

Also interesting point to note that tuneboy allows mapping of the torque, you can tune the torque for set rpm, resulting in smoother torque delivery plus more torque at a given rpm

Not really interested in the Akro. But I love the look of the forward exit Termi cans. That with a full exhaust are on my wish list. Just don't have the coin right now.

I am hoping that the gearing change via sprocket and chain kit will raise the RPMs at 40mph just enough to get me above 5000 RPM. That will buy me the time I need to save up the money for the exhaust.

This and the other tuneboy posts have been the most helpful, though I cannot go this route just yet.

So, thank you.

No problem.

The forward exiting termi will give you similar results as the akro, as it is a good flowing design.

I have F:14 and R:41 on the gear it is pretty stupidly but it means 90% of the time i am always above 4,000rpm.

definitely give the gearing a try

......... Mine does still buck in second below 4000 RPM, how can you make a statement like that without actually having driven my bike? Each one is different.

.

Nonsense. They are not that different. Its obvious you never have been on a Ducati before.

WTF are you doing below 4000 RPM this is a twin for Fks sake  stop that crap, your admitting its your fault.

Learn how to drive a twin.

For years noobs come in here and make the same complaint, they did this same crap when the 848's came out.

These bikes don't need cans or exhaust, or gear changes.

They need drivers. Not people who are afraid to twist the throttle.

Your issue is typical for the past decade when people come in off 4cyl and don't know to push a twin. Period.

These are race horses that don't like being babied in low RPMs. Your whole shifting pattern needs to be relearned.

Take the FKN bike and run the bike up to red dot rev limiter before shifting into second, then NOTICE what RPM the bike is at now. Its not anywhere near 4k is it?

You don't have to bang it off the limiter every shift, but you cannot dog it either in first. Go out and make the bike sing and drive it like your actually trying to move, and you will see all your trouble will be gone.

I got the rapid bike, throttle spacer, and the 41t sprocket. This bikes still wants to toss me off. That feeling you remembered from your Suzuki / Honda, you are not gonna get it from this bike, but this is what you paid for, is it?

Exactly, the bike demands a cowboy.

And the mods don't make a huge difference with any of that.

And I would hate changing the stock gearing for the canyons im in.

I love having 100mph at the top of second.

Whats the gear change do? a measly 10mph slower in second?

I do agree with you this bike don't like low revs, and that if you keep them above 5000/6000rpm they are in the sweet spot and are amazing BUT at the end of the day most people will do 90% of their riding on the street and there is no denying the 1199/1299 lacks low/mid range torque when compare to is older brother 1198.

To say the 1199 doesn't need an exhaust or gearing change is an opinion and like all opinions doesn't make it right or wrong.

The 1199R come standard with F:14 sprocket, compare to the base/s 15 there is a reason ducati when this route and to be honest it is a cheap and effective upgrade.

Aftermarket exhaust and tune is another opinion which i highly recommend to any 1199 owner. If you look at all the data it is clear ducati made some comprises when design the exhaust.

Now aftermarket exhaust and tune doesn't fix all the low/mid range torque issues but does go along way of helping to improve it.

If you are able to ride 2 1199 one standard one with full system and tune you would understand why myself and alot of other 1199 owners swear by it the difference is night and day.

I went almost 2 years before i did the exhaust and tune and in that time i had done 15,000km and many track days i had a good feel for the bike and once i made the change i was blown away with the results. power aside the delivery of the torque the usability of the power where the biggest improvement.

My confident in the bike change over night i could use more throttle at lower rpm and was able to get on it earlier and harder than before. Fun factor on the street improve 10 fold and on the track it it gave me the confident to push the bike more and more each lap and help drop my PB down by 3 seconds. (which had nothing to do with the power and all to do with my confident)

Yes they do, but don't take my word for it, look at the graph.

at around 75km/hr in 4th gear, the increase in torque is almost 20ft/lbs

I do agree with you this bike don't like low revs,

I agree with most everything you posted.

Context is key here, I use full termi and upmap key. Love my gearing though.

What your explaining while correct, is not OP's issue which is learning a twin.

The bike does 73mph in 1rst gear, and OP is complaining he cannot corner and accelerate to 80 quickly because 4000 rpm she stumbles.

That's driver error.

And yes your correct you need to stay in the powerband on this bike, it is not like the 1098, OP was no where near the powerband.

Maybe I was to hard on the little feller, but after years in ducati forums this same complaint is made by twin noobs constantly.

As you know it just takes some getting used to, and these bikes demand more of the pilot. And they are not road friendly unless your aggressive.

See ;)

To me that's not huge. :D

My full termi made a little difference.

And gearing is personal preference, with some tracks requiring different gearing changes.

To be honest, the 1199 is a great bike, I love mine. But I also have to admit that while it does many extraordinary things, it does not do everything well.

I say enjoy the things it does well, and learn to live with the things that it does not do well instead of trying to fix it. There's nothing to fix.

thank you.

I hope you learn how to drive a twin correctly.

Steve, go out tomorrow and peg the bike in first and report back that it does 70 in first as fast as you can hold on. Hit second and go to 100mph when the red lights flash.

Are you even seeing the red lights flash?

The bike will do 10's with you on it or me or anyone else. so if you cannot get through a corner without it feeling sluggish its a personal problem

If not ill eat my words and apologize, and if im right, you might just stop the FKN complaining when you figure the powerband out..

You have to keep the RPM's higher on this then a FKN 4cyl

By the way, still love ya ;)

LOL, that is because the old design termi is .....

If you are ever in australia, i will happen to let you ride my bike so you can see how huge the difference really is :)

Thanks brother. Never heard the first run was that bad, I never use the plugs.

If it wasn't for the flies and distance we would be out running Lake Gairdner again, as the salt is crap here.

Were probably headed for a dry lake in Bolivia to try and run.

it's not so much that it is bad, its just with the limited space and exhaust route ducati pick means your always going to have flow issues.

Termi 1st design looks like it is just base on the standard exhuast with little bit bigger piping. the whole problem is that the exhaust has to loop back on itself in the cans.

Akro did a good job of improving that area as well as the join just before the cans. The new Termi design went a step further and had the exhaust outlets on the front of the cans so they don't loop back on themselves.

I am really interested in trying the new termi design to see what the improve are to be had however at the price the Akro cost me i don't really just want to buy another system to test it's design lol

.... me what a ........ thread . First gear is for taking off from the lights .
If you need to buy a exhaust that ..... from its mouth to be able to ride a bike correctly you got problems .

no...it's turned into a ........ thread. Op asked a honest question which was answered in the first couple of replies...

Yep the things a pig for doing a slow U turn or going up a ramp and it crushes your nuts .
Get some tank grip and avoid slow stuff or just slip the clutch if you have to you got a love a twin .
Seems to me people spend more time trying to tame the beast than ride the beast as it was intended .
That is obviously only my opinion most likely incorrect but carry on .
