now i'm scared

Having just bought one, and now have been reading all the scary stories, my bike has 1000 miles on the clock and the most I will do this year is 1000, and it seems this problems shows up around 4k,
How much would it cost to fix, parts and labour time, anyone?
Also bigger worry is when it gets repaired it goes again, any in warranty Duc are giving new forks, I don't want to buy new forks after forking out for the repair that didn't work.
Is the answer to fit Ohlins guts first as last?

Probably the best and most cost effective solution in the long run.
It's also a good upgrade as well so it's a win win situation.

Service rep told me it was 5k $CAN.

This should have been a recall issue, I believe there's a good chance this will be covered even after warranty has expired.

Ask your service rep about this.

I'm going to ride the crap out of it this summer before the warranty expires!

Just been out in the garage and checked mine, I haven't been on the road with it yet as its been snowing and raining since I picked it up.
Results, I can get compression damping difference but I cant get any difference in the rebound full in or out, least I dont need it at the moment, hope I dont get any problems to get it fixed RIGHT!!!
But thanks for the posts cause I would not have found out until I rode it in spring then I would have given its first ride to a dealer.

Glad the forum functioned well and helped you out in this case. If I were you, I would go ahead with the warranty repair, and while the bike is in for service, go ahead and spring for the Ohlins NIX cartridges and keep the replacement Marzocchi cartridges for when you sell the bike.

I'll put one more plug in for the Bitubo ECH-29 gas fork cartridges, because with the 1199 forum discount through forum member Gunny Fitz at Bellissimoto.com, they are only a few hundred more than the Ohlins NIX non-gas cartridges. They are world-class and I'd put them up against anything, plus they look trick as hell:

Rebound is the first to go, you 're about to lose them. Take them in now while you can't ride, they won't argue with you.

The new set will be great and will hold, trust me!

Same here! I went out to check mine after reading this thread! My compression works fine but my rebound is the same pogo whether rebound is set to full hard or full soft, no change, my rear shock is like this too:( I have a service appointment saturday. I'll report back with intel!

I called the dealer in the UK today where I bought it, it was a used machine, they said they had not had any info on problems with the forks, I got it with me in Slovenia and I have to find a way to sort it here, Italy is close by but they are hard to deal with, will keep all informed after I go on Monday to see if the world warranty works out!!!!
I also check the rear and it seems fine.

Ducati Tech, Just called... Rear shock is supposedly fine, but front forks are blown! No rebound, calls being placed for replacement, looking at about a month before forks are in from Italy. Anyone know if Ducati or the supplier have remedied the problem or will I have this problem again in the future! Also I see that motowheels.com can convert DES ohlins shock from electronic to manual adjusters. Thinking about picking up a used DES shock off an S model and converting it. Anyone know if the DES ohlins forks can be converted to manual adjust by addding new fork caps?

All I can say is there is no permanent fix in the form of like for like replacement. Only for sure fix is changing from Marzocchi. You may get lucky with a replacement n it ends up working just fine for a very long time and if you're like me, a few months after your first exchange, you'll be right back for another swap. I opted out of a direct swap. Two blown forks in 8 months is too often for me to be convinced this won't happen again.

This sucks bad for me, nearest dealer is 400 miles away. Mine are leaking oil, I see it now. Fork seals are replaced, month later the bladders break... I'll loose it! Funny thing is I bought a base cause I didn't want DES, thought it would break before the basic shocks:D
Doesn't the Hyper SP and the Diavel have the same forks? Wonder if they have the same problem?

seals too

After finding the rebound isn't rebounding found the leak too!
But I like the bike and this will be sorted, I was going to buy a 1198s corse or an SP but the price for this was the same and I figured that the lowest 1199 was better than the top 1198, and technically it is I dont regret................. Yet.

4 sets of forks, never took more than a week...your dealer is trying to stall you to put them in a parts shipment to save on freight!

The last set I got had a different part number than the previous ones and has gone for 10k km without problems, think they found the cause.

You'll be better off to buy a TTX and fork internals outright than tring to convert DES units. The forks won't fit into the triple clamps!

Can you give me the part numbers for the old and the new?
Would be useful ammo for me when I go to the dealer and ask for this part number forks rather than old part number forks

It won't really matter much, if any. My replacement was a newer version and still failed after a few months. It's just luck of the draw. There are probably some out there who are still on the forks that came with the base model n don't have problems............yet!

Well, I can report that my rebound adjusters are knackered as well looks like it. The compression bit works fine, and there is a significant change between fully in and fully out but I cannot tell the difference between fully in and fully out on the rebound adjusters.

I guess its a trip to the dealers some time this week to get it checked.

No "probably" to it. I know of at least one base with 8500 miles on it that doesn't/hasn't had the problem (mine). It's a '12 (July 2012 build date).

If it happens, then I'll get it fixed under warranty. If the warranty has run out then I'll look at alternatives.

If I'm worried about suspension, I'd first look at upgrading the rear. The Marzocchi's are pretty good. The Sachs is marginal. That would be the first place I'd put suspension money (I'm partial to Penske's).
