I have to take umbrance with the writer as he needs to do a little more research.

Assuming the bikes in the story are all window dressing is not something I've seen as the case. I plan on riding mine as much as schedule and weather permits (and the extracurricular activities of 5 kids...but thats another story).

I certainly do not see any evidence on this board that the majority of us are collectors of performance bikes....more likely collectors of experiences and adrenaline rushes. Sightings may be rare in some cases but doddling around on them only for show is probably more rare.

DUDE, 5 KIDS!
You do know that they know what causes that now, RIGHT?:D

I do....just kinda happened.

Number 5 snuck in before my trip to the Urologist. At this point, I can honestly say it was a blessing as he is an incredible kid.

When my last was born I had 5 under 7 years old. My oldest is now turning 11 this month.

The 1199r was my survival gift to myself for making it through the baby years. They are all now old enough and ready for some fun...just got dirt bikes for them to tear up.

got the issue

2 things say it all :

1. beats the hp4 by 1 second
2. hodgson : develishly difficult to ride fast..

it looks like it was ridden with the stock exhaust!

by the time i'm done with mine, it'll be 10kgs lighter an 10 bhp up...

mama, what have i done !

i seriously doubt that the Pani R beats all other competition.

case in point:

2013 RSV4 Factory ABS wins Motociclismo shootout

and if you put the price difference into modding the Ape my god it wouldn't even be close!

Pani wins! I don't know what you were looking at, this is what I saw:

DUCATI 1199 PANIGALE R
PILOTA 1 (miglior tempo su 2 giri) 1'31"28

APRILIA RSV4 FACTORY
PILOTA 2 (miglior tempo su 2 giri) 1'31"52

BMW HP4
PILOTA 2 (miglior tempo su 2 giri) 1'32"15

never trust a statistic you haven't falsified yourself.

you saw, but your math skills clearly failed you ;)

Ape wins for 1/3 cheaper, not that you nor I would notice much...

APE:........PILOTA 1 (miglior tempo su 2 giri) 1'29"79
..............PILOTA 2 (miglior tempo su 2 giri) 1'31"52

PANI R:....PILOTA 1 (miglior tempo su 2 giri) 1'31"28

What I learned from the article was that all these bikes are faster than both my current and potential skill level can hope to max out. Whichever of them is tuned specifically for a specific track will likely be the fastest that day, conditions and rider, etc. being equal. There is a strong likelihood that given randomized tracks/roads, the same rider and the same conditions that the HP4 would be the fastest of the group.

Just like AR, only posting the numbers to make your guy look better. I rest my case :)

Not sure which part you are referring to, but I'll break down my opinion from my post.

Self explanatory - I spend too much time in the office and on the golf course to ever get skillful enough to tap the potential in any of these bikes. :)

Because the S1krr trounced the Pani S that isn't much different than the R leads me to believe that, out of the box, the BMW and especially the HP4 is the faster bike. I think this was a VERY tuned Panigale R vs. an off the shelf HP4. Throw a couple tweaks on the HP4 and I bet we would have had a repeat of the first test in 2012.

Same as above. I just think the HP4, out of the box, is the faster bike based on people's personal experience with them, test results, etc. Nothing against the Pani since I obviously have a fondness for it or I would have bought the BMW, but I think it's the stronger bike. Not saying certain tracks and riders wouldn't favor the Pani and beat the HP4 in certain situations, but I think in most situations with most riders that the HP4 would come out on top. Again, just my opinion and it's worth exactly what you paid for it. :)

Totally disagree, my post confirms the Pani can be faster then the Beemer - So you can never say now that the Beemer is a faster bike. If you are beat just once, you cannot claim faster.

I'll concede that point, but I don't think we fundamentally disagree. All I am saying is that if you take average rider A and give him an HP4 he will likely usually beat average rider A on a Panigale. That being said, I am sure you could build up a 1000rr or an R1 that would sweep this field for less than the entry price on the R or the HP4, but that's not apples to apples. This R was tweaked for this specific track and barely edged out the HP4. The BMW smashed the Pani S in the 2012 test when they were both out of the box (if I remember correctly) so that is the basis for my takeaways from the article.
