As we enter this long meaningful weekend I ask that everyone pause to reflect on the true reason why most of us will enjoy Monday off from school or work. Memorial Day is just that my friends. It is paying tribute to ALL of those men and women who took an oath at some point in their lives, an oath that no doubt has made them into the type of person they are today!

During the great World Wars, our troops survived on the most meager amenities, wages, and communication with their loved ones unknowingly just waiting at home for them to return. Today we have troops taking video footage from cell phones right there in the midst of firefights with the enemy!!

So please pause this coming Monday to thank those you personally know who served in any branch of the service. To thank those you may know who were perhaps killed or maimed and have returned home to a MUCH MUCH different way of life, left to face incredible challenges forever. So to ALL my Fellow Members & friends that in fact did so - I wish to thank each of you who took that oath and paid your dues regardless of what branch, MOS, location, or how many medals and ribbons were left upon your chest. Thank You for stepping up to the plate not knowing what lay ahead!!

Friendly banter my friends:
Anyone can be "IN" the Air Force, "IN" the Army, or "IN" the Navy.
However, it takes a special breed to "BE A MARINE!!"

Semper Fidelis everyone!
I wish you a Happy and Truly Reflective Memorial Day Weekend !!

Thank you for taking the time to read this all too folks! Feel free to post anything on those friends or family you know who lost their lives and should NEVER be forgotten by us all here on earth!

Ps. The attached photos are for my best friend from when we were Embassy Guards together in 1988 in Munich Germany. SgtMaj Robert Cottle was best man in my wedding and a Marine Corps Senior Enlisted peer. He was a Reserve SgtMaj and a full time LAPD SWAT Team Leader who was literally vaporized on March 24th, 2010 by a brutal fertilizer IED in Helmand Province. This weekend I remember him and the life he sacrificed so we can all enjoy our freedom, trucks, and friendships here though he is gone.

Robert J. Cottle, Sergeant Major, United States Marine Corps
