Metal on sump plug

Yep - my ZX-10R had next to nothing on the magnet during break in, same with any Honda or Yamaha I've owned

What viscosity are you running? I tend to think these engines need 10w-50 or perhaps a blend with a couple of quarts of 20w-50 (synthetic of course)

Had whatever shell oil the dealer uses. Have now gone to motul 300V as that is what I used in all my other bikes without a problem. The viscosity shouldn't have an effect on the shearing of metal rotating components, but I suppose anything is possible. Will do another trackday soon and see what comes out then

My plug had a little bit of metal on it at first service but nothing like yours and no big bits. My Tuono was almost clean at first service a tint bit of powdery stuff was all it had.

Good point, not this early - either sloppy casting/machining and/or inferior materials.

Either way, not good on a $20k bike

I changed my own oil the first 300 miles (to get the initial break in crud/filings etc. out of the motor) and the drain plug looked like yours..

I took pictures and showed the dealers master mechanic. He said said that is "normal" They changed it at the 640 mile mark as per service requirements and it was the same..:(
At the 1800 Mark I changed it again and it also looks the same..
Something ferrous is shearing off inside I tend to think it is transmission gears.. Maybe that is the way Italian bikes are.. This is my first and probably last Italian bike..The japs just build a better more tightly toleranced motor..
The mechanic also said it was "normal" for the brake and clutch fluid to get dirty fast LOL.

Evidently just about anything that goes wrong with the 1299 is "Normal" If they can't fix it. At least as far as Ducati is concerned, it it normal...

Speedy

I have not shown this to my dealer yet, but assume I will get the same answer as you. This CANNOT be classed as normal wear and tear. What a joke. This has done one track day and I am by no means fast nor am I rough on it. I thought that is what they are designed for, just didnt think I needed race team support to keep it in perfect condition. Shame really
