As they should, the stewards cant arbitrarily hand out penalties according to the magic 8 ball

I’m inclined to agree.

Rules are rules - if the FIM regulations don’t explicitly establish that the penalty is applied at the next race the rider participates in (as opposed to simply the “next race”), then the appeal seems reasonable.

The sanction stated next race weekend at Argentina. MM not attending is equivalent to losing points as if he was banned, so in effect he gets a double tap. Regardless they cant change their mind after the fact presumably due to public opinion and expect Honda to rollover. The long game here is getting clarification and consistency, seems Freddie is a bit useless at his job.

'Competition,' is one of the most interesting words humanity has come up with.

Latin etymology: competition derives from the Latin com- (“together”) and petere (“to seek”).
Competition is thus “to strive together for the attainment of something. ... True competition is striving for excellence together.”
Com- does mean “with” in Latin, and one meaning of petere is “to seek” – it is the source of the English word petition, a formal request.
There are a few instances where com+petere produces a verb that can be defined as “to strive after something ... in company or together”
A literal translation of competitor is “co-seeker”

In Sport, humans get together to see how far they can push each other into further excellence.
What Marc Marquez does is war, as pointed out by J. Martin. based on the effort to win at the cost of destruction of the other. That's not even sport anymore.
All the excuses given to him wrapped in adjectives like "ruthless," do not change what he has become.
Starting with the most unsportsmanlike behavior I've ever seen in racing in 2015 when he stopped trying to win, and instead was there only to block someone else from finishing.
That's no longer sport, that's something else.

The fact that there are lawyers and courts involved, we should be asking ourselves a couple of questions. 'TF is going on here?
All the GP Pilots complaining are complaining exactly because, "seems Freddie is a bit useless at his job." I'd have a guess it has less to do with Freddie and everything to do with what Dorna allows through political games which is why there is no consistency or transparency in the rules. Freddie needs to become a lawyer now?
Any real judge would go with the "spirit of the rule" over the wording. The reason for the rule, the spirit of the punishment is, 93 has been effing-up for years.
Now 93 needs to sit the fk down or get out of the sport IMO.

Since when has professional sport been corinthian, money corrupts all and we are talking 50 million to run team Honda? So yes there will be lawyers especially when the rules are not clear and are applied arbitrarily.

MM is a separate matter, here we enter fandom bunfights. To win you need to be ruthless ands all of them are ruthless, some more than others. The problem is that we pay money to be entertained by the "show" and its actors. If you want sport go watch lower level races, this is a polished TV product, all the outrage about MM is the pain of shattering the illusion of "sport"

As soon as you put a set of rules in any competitive sport, people are looking to interpret them, find a way around them ands it to their best advantage to win. Some like the red bull carbon wing that had flex built into it so it passed the ride height test, but flexed down enough without breaking at speed to increase down force are really clever and a romantic way of breaking the rules that you sometimes get away with it sometimes you don't.

Being the hard nose full aggression no quarter player is another. sometimes it works, some times it doesn't.

also complaining about your fellow competitor is another way of using the rules to your benefit, especially when the competitor gets it so spectacularly wrong.

At the end of the day winning is partly about who interprets the rules to their best advantage, partly who doesn't feck up, and mainly about who has the most money......

So, the Wreckingball is out at his favorite track. Too bad Bastianini is out again as well.
... and mainly about who has the most money......
And this is just one of the reasons I love Ducati kicking ass finally. Honda has the most money by decimal points. In multiples.
And they can suck-it. The boardroom racing is not particularly interesting from the spectator POV, nor does it do anything for the sport or humanity IMHO. After years of that subject dominating the sport, I'm over it. Good old fashion resourceful innovation, youngsters growing up with the GOAT and kicking ass. This is a good show.

"Court of Appeal grants stay of execution in Marquez case"
There you have it. This prick rides with no penalty based on the argument that it would be hard to win.

"Irreparable harm (DECISION OF THE MOTOGP COURT OF APPEAL)
25. In the present case the Court notes the Appellants’ assertion that the consequence of completing the Double Long Lap Penalty in the next MotoGP Race would impact the Rider’s ability, for example, to outrun other riders and thus his position in the race standings. Such consequences cannot be undone if the Court subsequently rules on the merits of the case in favour of the Appellants."

Dorna at its very best.

That appeal is so dumb it’s bordering genius.

I am with Honda on this one I'm afraid, if the Stewards are going to hand out arbitrary penalties (why not Taka for the same offence?) then at the very least those decisions need to be final. Changing rulings after they have been given is rubbish, and opens them up to appeal by the same mechanism which effectively says that rulings are not in fact final at all. in any ball sport for example the ref makes a call and that's it for right or wrong. The affected team might not like it but next time it might go their way, that's how it rolls. Of course when its high level professional sport there's high tech info available to help the ref but their call is still final even if its proven wrong later, its just part of the game and you accept it.
