It's been pulling at me for some time...I've tried to talk myself out of the justification and the cost and all that goes with it but I finalized on a 2013 new, still in crate 1199R. I'm so over the moon that it's emotional. I am very lucky as I never dreamed when I had my first street bike (1986 Honda VFR 750..wicked bike by the way) that I'd ever own some of the stuff I have.
There may be better bikes out there...and everyone is intitled to their picks and opinions but after playing the field for a bit I'm staying with Ducati from here on out good or bad...1st place or last place for a few reasons but this one the most. Nothing spikes my emotional senses and thrill button and proud button as riding a Ducati..it just does something that can't be explained unless you own one.Ya...they may piss us off to no end sometimes but if you're dealer is good and takes care of you..then life is good. My Aprilia comes close in the senses but not quite the same...even though it's a more user friendly bike...for me at least.
That being said,I have to have it built yet and we are still in winter here so I won't have it home for a bit. A couple questions are do they come with the carbon fiber heat shield or is that not with it. As well...do they come with the mirror block off plates? Easier question is what extras do they come with outside of the full termi? I'm adding the DP plate holder and thinking I'm going with the Oberon bar end signal/mirror combo..outside of that..nothing. Sooooo stoked!!

You will get the full termi system in a box that wil have a CF heatshield.

If it is the small CF heatshield they will do the recall and give you the larger one.

Congratulations, mate. I understand your emotional tie to the bike/brand. My very first bike ever was an '06 Monster, and I fell in love. Hard. I wouldn't trade my 1199 for the world - she's the only consistent source of nirvana in my life (too emo?).

Cheers! Here's to actualizing a dream!

Thanks guys. It took me awhile to "get it" with Ducati as I was frustrated as hell with my first Panigale but no lookin back now..only ahead!

Ya, an hour from Banff and spend alot of time in Jasper as that's where my wife is from. Looking forward to riding the Icefield parkway!

Congratualtions and welcome to the R owners club.

Carbon heat shield in with the termi exhaust as stated above. Some advice: Use some Loctite 2620 Ultra High Temperature for the side bolt that holds that heatshield in place.

  • mirror block off plates - Included.
  • DP Screen - Included.
  • DDA+ Included.

I bought the following extra bits:

  • DP rear-sets
  • DP Comfort seat. (Its not very comfortable though )
  • DP Levers
  • Rizoma Reservoirs
  • CNC Racing Upper Clutch protector
  • Rizoma Wheel Sliders

Great Bike, has character and that's why I love mine!

Congrats on stepping up to the R! I just uncrated mine on the 18th and am still smiling. The bike comes with all the standard goodies and track specific goods which are: tinted race windscreen, aero kit for fairing, full Termi system, Up Map, DDA+ USB adapter, and mirror block offs. You'll have two big cardboard boxes of stuff to take with you in addition to your bike. I had mine prepped for the track and love it set up that way. Prior to taking possession I was telling Josh at Ducati Westlake that if I had to find any fault in the bike at all, it was that the twin just didn't sound as sexy as the fours do. He looked a bit puzzled and thought for a minute. He then asked me if I've ridden one hard at all. I told him I hadn't and he went on to tell me that he could understand my opinion based on just seeing and hearing the twins, but when you're actually riding it, it's not the case at all. Now that I have 475 miles on it, I couldn't agree more! This bike sounds amazing and claws at the sky feverishly. All of my expectations have been exceeded and I haven't even gotten to the first service when I get to really start holding the upper revs for longer. Just don't try to ride her slow, she gets really upset!

Great news. I like stories like this. Enjoy that new R

Thanks for all the info and kudos guys, much appreciated. I thought I saw it on here before somewhere but does anyone have any pics of the aero kit? What are your thoughts on it, does it look good?

As well, does the tinted wind screen come on the bike, or does it come with a clear and the tinted is an addition?

It comes with both the standard and the tall race windscreen, stock and full termi exhaust with upmap, mirrors and mirror block offs, etc. Just have your dealer put on whatever you want and negotiate it in the price so they don't charge you extra for the labor.

Congrats from a fellow Canadian. ;)

Assuming it's the same as California, the bike comes crated in full street trim. The Aero kit, Full Termi, mirrors, passenger pegs, passenger seat, etc, are all in the boxes I told you about in my previous post. I did a fair amount of photo documenting of mine coming out of the crate and then getting the Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI) done. I'll see if I can post up some pix of how the bike looks as it is in the crate and while getting PDI'd. The aero kit looks beautiful IMO. It basically adds width to the fairing near the handlebar area and gives the bike a more aggresive, racy look. The kit reduces aero drag by keeping the air flow farther away from the rider and is good for two mph of top speed. I'm told it will also help to reduce heat at sustained very high speeds by reducing the air pressure pushing the front brake and clutch levers back, causing them to slightly engage their respective controls. I don't know how true this part is, but it seems plausible if you're crazy enough to hover around the 200MPH zone...

You and Prince Albert should hook up for a ride. He'll show you what to wear.
