No V4...

Going to stick an 848 track bike in the garage next to my R............ See, V-4 in the garage :D

He was referring to the prehistoric 911 with its traditionally rear mounted (souped up and cylinders added) Volkswagen Beetle motor. :D

volkswagen owns audi ......audi owns ducati = volkswagon owns ducati .

it kinda explains how my 1299 passed emissions with that really loud exhaust. VW probably helped Ducati find a way around all that epa stuff . J/K

Claudio could not have spoken in more plain english (especially since its not his native tongue) I cannot believe people are trying to dissect and analyze each and every word like a group of conspiracy theorists . simply put he said NO.

I say if someone thinks a V4 is the way to go they should buy a fricking aprilia and be done with it. I bought all my past and present ducati's because I love the Ltwin . its lighter thinner and torquier

Don't give me stick. I was just helping Gecko understand the comment about 911's. Porsche South Africa sucks lemons though.

I wasn't I was just adding humor to what you said . not sure how you got offended by that but I'm sorry .

It was supposed to be funny because VW is in trouble for cheating emissions right now

I think you are right but Ducati did make a V4 before so the possibility of making a "another" V4 is still out there...even if it is a small chance. :D

I'm not saying they could never make ANY V4 again, the already did with the D16 and it's conceivable that they could make another GP replica at some point, especially if they win a championship again on it. I'm just saying the Ducati Superbike is not going to be a V4 in the forseeable future. Ducati spent 5 years developing the Superquadro engine, think about how long it was since the Testastretta was released (circa 2002) and it Was 10 years before the next clean-sheet engine design came out (2012). So that would indicate 2022 is the year to keep your eye on!

that sounds about right. they have surely built V-4 prototypes to play around with, but committing to developing a V-4 superbike will take a lot of time. and if they find another way to squeeze more out of the L-twin layout, they will surely take that route instead.

All the Ducati Superbikes from before we're all "crazy narrow "

No, they were "very narrow". The Panigale is "crazy narrow" - there's a difference.

The rear cylinder of a 916/999/1098 is surrounded by trellis frame. The rear cylinder of a Panigale is bare. That would....make it even more narrow.

Do people buy Ducati Superbikes because they like riding a twin or because it says Ducati on the tank ?

if I wanted smooth, predictable, linear power, I would have stuck with my BMW or upgraded to a '15 S1000RR.

But that's not what I want. I want the thump, passion, and character of an irregular-firing twin.

People who buy a Ducati for the name often quickly discover that riding a Ducati twin is very different from your typical motorcycle. Especially when purchased by a beginner rider suffering from a mid-life crisis, there are some very good deals to be had with extremely low mileage.

Well, if it comes to marketing, Ducati became a great company. Scrambler is now a big success in Europe within one year (I don't know about other regions).

So I see no reason why they should not resurrect their 1963 Apollo thing or their Desmosedici RR. Some sort of frameless naked 2x2V desmo superbike would be awesome.

Ducati is clever enough to avoid people to have a look into their cards.

In the last years they came with so many innovative designs (Panigale, Diavel, Scrambler) that I'm pretty sure they will suprise us in 2017 with another cool toy!

I wasn't offended Bro. I just look serious when I type. :D

what about a v twin with direct injection, and variable 5 valves 3 intake 2 ext.
c

I think something like that is much more likely than a V4 Superbike. They didn't design the Superquadro so it could come right out of the gate at the end of it's development lifetime! I'm sure they have lots more things planned for that motor.

Because it's a twin.

I work in the industry and get basically any bike and parts at cost with the exception of Aprilia, BMW and Ducati.
I wouldn't buy a Ducati and pay that much more if I didn't have to. I only want a Twin or V4, I won't ride an IL4. I don't like them for street bikes.

I'm glad they are sticking with a Ltwin for the next bike, lighter, more torque. If you've ridden the SL or the 15R you'll know how bat .... fast those bikes are and how little substance the four cylinder debate has. The next evolution of the superquadro motor will be amazing. But I think more attention will be spent on lowering weight than top end HP. Here's to hoping for a 170kg bike with 200RWHP. Can't wait. King lake come at me!

I'm not even debating which one is faster or slower I have had a V4 Ducati and still prefer the L twin bike .

There is very little in it even from the first superbike they had .

I think this is the only logical way forward for most manufacturers now. In my opinion ~200hp should be a bit of a ceiling for power output. Beyond that it's really unnecessary. I certainly don't get off my 1299 and think, "Man, if only it had more power..."

Improved electronics and reduced weight is the more rational way forward IMO.

Improved electronics and suspension. There's still a ton of flex and traction to be found in that swingarm. Carbon? Dual sided swing arm?

It would be maddness to make major changes to the bike. It's the best looking Ducati Superbike since the 916. And lets face it, they should have put the 916's fairing and nose on the 999. That would have sold. Even with a WC they couldn't move 999's. And the 1098 and 1198 were just "meh" for me. They dropped the ball, big time, there. I think they'll stick with the 1199/1299 body and frame for quite some time.

I could see the Desmodici returning for a bit though. Let's start more rumors! This one kinda got out of hand.

ERS technology? Dual clutch semi-auto trans?

Someone mentioned direct injection. I'd be fine with replacing the TPI injectors with direct, but the shower injectors MUST remain. Fast engines have shower injectors, not direct.

Camless pneumatic or electric valves would be neat, on a Honda or Suzuki. But Ducati is so good at Desmo, that it would just be a waste. Even the Moto GP Ducatis are Desmo still! Not pnue or electro.
