Unfortunately the high volume on the stock pipes is the one and only thing holding me back from picking up a Panigale. If I could find some way to knock back the volume I would be in.
I commute 100 miles by bike every day, usually leaving well before 7am and with neighbors on one side with young kids and on the other side retirees I don't want to be firing up something that's going to wake them up and ruin their day before they've started.
I use a R1200RT most days as its great in the wet and the cold, a 'Blade when the road looks dry and I take my 996SPS (open termis) on special occasions when I can fire up after 8am. Would love spend those 2 commuting hours each day on a Pani instead of the Blade, would love the noise when on the open road but don't feel that my choice of bike should impact other peoples lives (and someone waking up your kids at 6am certainly counts as impact!)
Until a solution comes up I'll have to just continue being jealous of you who can use the Panigale regularly ;-)
Having good neighbors are important especially if you own the home. If i had to leave early on the bike, i roll it down the block and piss off more distant neighbors.
No way I go 2 minutes at idle. I love the bike, but it really is loud. I put on all the gear, fire it up, wait about 15 to 20 seconds, and I drive away very light throttle and low revs. Common courtesy to the four-wheeled-crowd in the neighborhood. Like a previous post stated "these are the same people who watch out for you kids, etc".
