Bike has 10k miles...oem shifter seems to be struggling. Already checked the alignment and easy stuff. When I pull up/down about 50% of the time nothing happens and i have to use clutch.

what brand are people using to upgrade too? or is OEM replacement the way to go. I have no complaints on the OEM when it was working. Was plenty fast and smooth enough for me.

thanks yall,

10K miles its probably just worn out.

All the +5V switch type shifters work the same. It has a +5V wire, a ground and a signal. At idle, +2.5V is sent to the ECU on the signal wire. For a downshift its +1.8V and for an upshift +3.8V. Its hard to measure with a multimeter since the pins are so small. You almost need to make a harness to test it. You can read the values on the CAN Bus on the V4 bikes, I'd guess the 1299 would be the same.

I'm using a Cordona, but I didn't like it in standard shift. In GP shift its great. I suggest getting one which allows you to adjust how much force is needed. Or, just stick with the OEM.

No way. $450 is Cordona money. I forget who their OEM is but you can google something cheaper than that.

ETA: If you are going to spend that much for a replacement, I’d do a little work and make sure that’s the problem. Just to be clear it’s not working up and down right?

For $450 I’d go with a H&M which is an adjustable strain gauge type.

i did the same, switching to cordona, at my brothers bike. did a test ride at the track, was ok.
but when i did a tire calibration later, i found it too sensitive.
50% error rate is way to much, it must be broken. throw it away or send it to me, i will pay you a scrap price.
all others with a still working sensor, remove the flimsy cable tie, replace it by a line with a strong knot,
bend the cable on top off the plastic housing and fix it there also with a line.
this ensures that the cable breakage that will occur does not happen directly to the housing

ended up installing an OEM up/down shifter for my 1299...found one with low miles and holy moly...its a slow grind but the difference in a working one is massive...didnt realize how ...... it was until a newer one was installed...so i reckon ill be replacing these every 10k ish miles..
