Just to let you all know if you do your own oil change, you will need to turn the engine over several times to get another 1/3 litre of oil out of the pump and top end. Easy way to do this is put the bike on paddock stand select sixth gear and turn the rear wheel by hand. 2 full revolutions should do it. You will see the oil coming out the drain hole. When changed with the filter, I put 3.75 litres in.

I'me running 15w50 fully synthetic, and would reccommend all those of you running their bikes in hot climates to do the same, its a little thicker than a 10w40 so shouldnt get so much blow by when running in hot ambient temps.

My bike lives in Spain and gets thrashed in temps well over 30 deg C. I rang up 4 different dealers in the UK and 2 said 10w40 the other 2 15w50. I tried to ring the factory in Italy, for a definitive answer on oil specs as my mate speaks Italian, but I think they must have been on there 2 hr lunch break or maybe they have all gone to German classes!!!

My dealer did the first service on my bike, and he always uses 15w-50 Motul 300V. In my other bikes I use regular 20W-50 Mobil 1. It's getting hard to find in these days of 0w-30 car engine oils.

We need heavy oils here where it gets to 45 C once in a while and sometimes close to 50 C.

from pg 233 of the owners manual what oils and what temps. it says you can use 10w/40 up to 40c.

Interesting re turning the pump over - thats a nice tip.

I'm also in a hot climate, however, riding mountains through the winter months will see temps drop. Reckon my bike will see 10C through 42C.

Anyhow, the dealer filled it with Motorex Power Synt 10W50!

I only use Motul 15w-50 300V as recommended by my dealer.

I am not sure what weather you experience but we regularly get -numbers only 50 miles south from you. 2010 saw -15 a couple of times but regularly -5. Motul 10w-40 here as recommended by my dealer! Not sure if it makes a difference if the bike is sitting in a garage like mine does at anything beneath +7 or so though. :D

I don't think my bike will ever see minus numbers, just like yours she's tucked away in a nice warm garage. :D

Think I'll be doing my last full on ride this weekend before putting her away for the winter. Have a list of things I want to do so best start soon ready for next season.

Glad I found this discussion.

My dealer (Ducati Aylesbury) used Motul V300 10W-40 for a recent oil change. This is what they recommend for UK climate and said 15W-50 is for warmer climates.. I thought they just used Shell 15W-50 or Motul 15W-50 because this is what the manual said.

Cutting a long story short, I bought a litre of Motul V300 15W-50 for top-up purposes on Ducati Coventry's recommendation and I was wondering if I can top up using 15W-50 when the initial oil used was 10W-40?
