Hey guys,

with the current covid situation i last changed my oil March 2020. Haven't ridden it all that much since that time (2466km).
Still need to change the oil? I did use fully synthetic last time - which should last longer.

With not much riding it won’t get very dirty but might get moisture in it.

You should be fine. There is a lot of lather rinse repeat advice (by those selling and doing the work) on oil changes. My only concern would be moisture, however as long as when you do ride you get the bike up to full operating temperature moisture should not be an issue. Never start the bike during storage just to circulate the oil. I’m guilty of yearly oil changes even with low usage but I know it’s just making me feel better, not because I need to.

I wouldn’t even think twice about it . Start the bike every week and let it idle for 5 min and shut it down . Don’t just let it sit !!!

Respectfully disagree - unless the bike/oil gets above normal operating temp (200-+) and keeping it there for a bit (riding) you risk causing condensation. Better not to start unless you are going for a ride - or do the yearly oil change

I respectfully disagree and have first hand knowledge from experienced ducati techs and have seen bikes that have just sat and have seen the issues first hand . They always have more issues . That’s why you let it idle for 5 min to allow them to get up to temp . You don’t want to just let them sit . Bad for all the engine seals and almost every other rubber part on the bike .

We agree on the temps, not sure if winter storage is enough to cause seal issues. Of course some bikes are bought as collectibles and when I see a 5 yr old bike with extremely low miles on it the caution light comes on for me. Same reason old tires even with good tread are a problem

Tires are simply an age thing . They legit have a timer on them as soon as they’re manufactured…. The clock starts to tick

You could get it sampled and if they say yes it has to be changed, then change it otherwise I would do every two years if less than 5,000kms fully synthetic.

Im in the same boat but I won't be changing my oil because I only have 1200kms to go and needs its second official service.

I have a 2015 Ducati Superbike Panigale with a 900 engine, I use this:
2015 Ducati Superbike Panigale oil

it's 15W-50 oil full synthetic, been good to me no issues, even use same brand in my vehicles for years. Although many friends swear that additives help, I think they are unnecessary if you have a top oil to begin with.

hope this is of use!

Hey! Does engine oil drain cap has a seal? When I took it off and was cleaning it, I saw half broken piece of a rubber seal (or atleast it looked like one) I know it has a washer but does it have a rubber seal? I have put it back with washer and nothing else. Does it seal on those threads or am I missing a seal? Newbie ducati owner so please go easy.

Ps: I have also overfilled oil lol when it cooled down it is now just over the upper mark but still some empty room on top of the glass. Not riding it until I take sone out.

I'd be surprised if being "slightly" over would do any harm, but double check that your verucal when reading just in case.

The sumo plug does have sealant applied according to the manual. I apply it to the thread, but should be thin once threaded in

So basically there is no rubber seal and there is a metal seal which I was thinking to be the washer. Cool.

Yeah I am gona use a spray bottle top spray to extract some oil until it is within limits.
