Oil Levels

After my first service the dealer filled the oil to the top of the sight glass, though the manual says, "Oil level should be between the marks on the sight glass."

Has anyone else noticed their dealer seemingly over filling their bikes too? (they also overfilled my tires)

On a side note I love how the ducati manual is rather absent of diagrams and pictures:rolleyes:

They overfilled mine, too. I'm guessing they do this because they expect oil to be consumed at a higher rate for the next 1000 miles or so....but I do wonder what effect the extra oil might have on leaks and extra pressure....makes far more sense to fill it properly and tell the owner to keep an eye on the level.

I pull whatever excess over the top bar out. I check my oil frequently so not an issue, guessing the dealers are overfilling a bit because some buyers might not be so thorough about checking frequently.

You know, I would at least expect a dealer of an exotic bike to be more attentive to detail... guess not.

Did the bikes get shipped from Italy with oil already in them because when I first picked it up it was spot on?
