Oooooh.... 1199 & WSBK

Giugliano is a man on a mission. The Panigale is looking strong, indeed. Can't wait for Aragon.

Is it really the light or could it be an oncoming train? let us see, its been a season since ducati tasted a victory in wsbk. I can not remember about the motogp program though

I am almost scared to have hope..:)...I think that this is the year where Ducati shall develop the bikes and start competing for win the next year......

Agreed. Give Gigi this season to make the necessary changes. Plus Dorna realize it's not good to have such a storied marque languishing for so long so the rules are relaxing towards the big twins again. I'm more scared that Honda is going to release their CBR1000RR replacement next year and eat everyone's lunch. They're obviously the alpha manufacturer and haven't had any real SBK success for almost a decade. Beware the beast from the land of the rising sun!

Unfortunately it sucks if the Pani wins a race this year. If a new model twin wins any WSBK race in the first 2 seasons they start slapping on restrictions. If they don't win any until next year that doesn't happen, they'll only put on restrictions if the top 3 Ducs have a points lead (5 points I believe) over the top 3 of the lead 4 cyl manufacturer.

I don't think the the Ducati team's speed in practice and qualifying was ever in doubt. The tough part is actual race pace. With the lack of top end, they have to push way harder in the corners in an attempt to get better drive. That's way easier said than done when you have a bunch of other bikes in a pack who simply get right back around you going down the next straight. My guess is they will have to win the same way Lorenzo did in GP last year, get out front early and stay there.

Once again the Pani has fast lap times like last year/ this year. There is no doubt the bike is fast and handle well. The million dollar question is:

Can the tires hold up so they can win.

Aren't we mostly excited because that question had a glimmer of a positive answer at Philip Island? Giugliano was up at the front far longer than the 1199s last year.

It's as if Gigi made a similar improvement to both the GP and SBK bikes. The GP bikes cut the race distance gap to the leaders by half, and as of the first race meet the SBK machines are experiencing better tire management so they can be there at the end. Like you're somewhat asking, will that be the case at all the different tracks/surfaces/conditions?

Personally, I'm praying for a rainy season :D

It's just that this bike eats tires no matter what track you are on. I'm praying too that they solved this issue and win!

Going to be interesting for sure. Sykes had that problem initially with the Zx10, though they solved it through some pretty innovative electronics. Watch some of the onboard footage and listen to when it transitions from being a twin mid-corner, through a triple and finally a four as he stands it up.

I guess people are saying the L-twin and the torque is the cause. I honestly think it's because they shifted more weight to the front on the Pani and needed to compensate for the light rear end getting squirly. Hence the stiff rear end, and new design changes like the adjustable swing arm on the R to make greater contact patch.

So right. If the road-going ZX-10R had this technology, I'm not ashamed to say I would buy it in a heartbeat!
