Hi all..I have a stage 2 "Phil" exhaust coming but the folks at BrenTune want me to wait until the first service to set their tune. I can...but would prefer not to...wait until then to fit my exhaust. Anyone here ever run one of these exhausts without retuning the bike? If so, just how bad is it w/o the mapping? Since I'm still breaking in, I'm not worried about peak power, but since i'm encouraged to keep her under 6k rpm and the bike is very unhappy below 4k...most of my time is spent in the 3500-6500 range. Hate to have a wicked flat spot right where i have to live for another couple hundred miles.

just wondering if anyone who is running this system ran it for a bit before their tune and what their experience was versus the bone stock exhaust.

2020 V4

Thanks !

No V4 experience but plenty of 899, 959 and 1199 exhaust mods. Don't run a non stock exhaust without a tune, a brand new bike running lean! surely it won't take you long to run up the miles to have your first service.

Fair enough...deep inside I knew that would be the consensus but the instant gratification fiend in me was hoping someone would chime in and say it was close enough to stock that it’s be ok.

.... no! it will have a better breathing exhaust. BTW if you were thinking of a better breathing filter now is the time to order it before the tune.

@Phl can you add anything here?

I was wondering the same thing for when mine turns up.

Thanks

Hi guys,

i generally recommend running the bike a tune for the sheer fact that the AFR is all over the place on a stock pipe already. Especially if you are planning on tracking it or demand a lot from the engine in general.

that being said, i also go along the lines of Arrow for example, who sell their aftermarket silencers without upmap or the recommendation of it.
https://admin.arrow.it/img/craft/do...49f-3f426ed297b7_NOTA_TECNICA_PANIGALE_V4.pdfthey only point out the lack of valve actuation which creates an error - not the case on the modded stock exhausts, since the hook-up mechanism is still inplace.

In the past the best solution has been a RapidBike unit, with its ability to auto-tune the bike in every situation. unfortunately, they have been awfully quiet with a product for the V4.
due to the lack thereof, a bren-tune or a T800 should give improvements over stock.

Me personally, i would hold off with an aftermarket install for a couple of miles and try to clock them in as fast as possible to get the bike through the break-in and then put a different silencer on.
also because not knowing if the bren-tune is flashed on the ECU and a service update might erase that.

Cheers.

only because Rapid Bike was mentioned, i'll share their response to my inquiry:

"We have the Rapid Bike EASY for the V4 but it is NOT a full on tuning solution, RB EASY only manages the closed loop area and installed inline with the lambda sensors, no software or anything is needed FYI and seems to work fine for what it does, price is only $200."

when i asked about future product development, they responded:

"Nothing yet, I am sorry and no ETA as of right now."
