Picking up my V4R Race built bike next Wednesday.

It's not the dealers. Akrapovic and Ducati have an exclusive deal to sell their V4 exhaust under the Ducati Performance name. The service department has an opportunity to make some money installing the exhaust which takes anywhere from 10- 12 hours. This helps keep the dealer in business to hopefully sell the customer their next toy in a few years. If you want to blame anyone, blame the source for making a sought after and exclusive exhaust system for a high-end motorcycle.

you are right, its mostly ducati and Akra making the market, then dealers having to install (or you get a mechanical person to do it).

But it still boggles my mind that a bike that you can buy for 23k has an exhaust that is 5k (plus tax in your state) plus the fairings that don't come with it (this is not including install)... which you pay about 1/4 the value of the bike for the exhaust alone.

I am unsure there is any other vehicle that has an exhaust that is branded for the vehicle that costs 1/4 of the sale price of said vehicle other than motorcycles, explicitly Ducati. We get hit with the 'ducati tax'

Even the worlds most expensive exhaust is for the Bugatti Veyron, and it costs $41k, with the car value at 1.7M for the cheapest model, its a 2.4% of the value.

I guess that is more what i am implying... the cost of these exhausts vs value of the motorcycle are crazy, and we buy it... I am one who did the same. I would love to see it not cost 25% of the cost of a base model bike, but i guess it is what we the consumer allowed it to be and were willing to pay for.

does anyone know of a bigger percent of value of new vehicle to exhaust in the automotive/ motorcycle market? i would be curious to see if there is

Yeah, the cost is crazy. Unfortunately, in the case of the V4R, not able to de-restrict the US ECU without getting an Akra and the associated up-map. If it weren't for that I would have gone a different route on exhaust and purchased the Termi up-map or perhaps Bren.

Boycott aftermarket exhausts for panigales for a year. See what that does to the pricing. Then again, does anyone have the willpower to resist the urge to buy an exhaust for whatever reason they end up buying one?

I paid $1,400 for my full titanium Yoshimura exhaust for my 2017 GSXR-1000, and installed it myself.

I think about $4,000 installed would be a fair price for the Akrapovic exhaust for our V4s, considering branding, material, engineering costs. The average of $5,600 installed is crazy, but everyone has to make a buck as stated above.

Have you seen pictures of the install? It's basically a full tear-down.

I will not buy this exhaust, I think its waaaay overpriced and I'm voting with my wallet.

Yeh i saw a speed run vid of it, was ridiculous. DIdnt think 10/ 12 hours though.

It's absurd. You would think that the people who design the bike would try
make it as easy as possible to work on it.. Clearly im wrong lol

I think we are lucky that Ducati teamed up with Akrapovic, the best exhaust manufacturer in the world bar none. They used Termignoni before but changed manufactures because they think it is the best choice. They're the only manufacturer that has the determination and the following to pull this off. Ducati rocks!

Picks and videos up on instagram under @scotman623 I have NO idea how to load everything on here. I get an error every time I try to upload pictures or videos.. I'm getting ready to leave today For Thunderbolt, Race weekend for me ✊

You sound like you're paid to say this lol.

Akrapovic make exhausts for HEAPS of bikes, nothing exclusive about it.
Not saying that anyone else could make a better pipe, i just think its ridiculous an aftermarket exhaust takes so much time to fit. An i dont think its their fault either, it's more ducatis with the factory setup.

Ducati tax...

I've mentioned this in another thread... I bought a full termi for the 1199. I'm no wiz mechanic by any means, but I took my time with instructions and shop manual and installed it myself... I feel like everyone should do that to learn more about their bike. But hey, if you got the cash, then pony up! Hell, I would if I had that much in my race budget.

I don't disagree, time is the limiting factor for me.

For the OP, any updates?

How was the race?

How did the bike behave?

Weather was terrible on Saturday, on off rain with very high winds, Sunday was damp in the morning but the sun came out and the afternoon was nicer.. Figures I only had 1 Race on Sunday afternoon.. Saturday was a mess and I never really pushed myself or the bike.. 28 crashes just on Saturday.. Sunday I had 2 decent morning practices and thought I was ready to battle up front for the podium, that changed when 2 riders went down in front of me and I had to put my motorX skills to the test.. LOL.. Never got to challenge after that.. I'm doing 2 days at Thunderbolt this weekend then Race Summit Point Memorial Day weekend, I will keep you updated my friend.
