Project 1199SPS

Nice set of Superleggera wheels would be perfect ;)

I wish! The bodywork has cost me a small fortune and I've yet to pay for the paint job, so maybe they will be on next year's shopping list. In between hectic work and family commitments, what little spare time I have will be partly used to tie up all the remaining loose ends and finish the project off, once the festive period is out the way. I'm also having to deal with a serious illness within my immediate family, so prioritizing a bike into the scheme of things, is often hard to justify, despite my eagerness to progress things at a rate I (and it seems others on here) would ideally prefer.

sorry to hear about the family health problem top. Family first then the toys. My grandma always said "It will all come out in the wash". The bike will still be there when your good to go!

To be honest,

More importantly,
I hope your family member gets through there illness ok and I would like to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Great newyear :)

Thanks IBSA. I'll be sure to get in touch if I decide to change the wheels, assuming you still have them for sale. Enjoy the festivities.

Topo,

just keep going .. it will be there in the end.. :)
Instant gratification is a curse... :)

Topolino,

I am sorry to hear about your personal illness and I trust you recover rapidly.

For what it is worth to you, I do not ever recall a more detailed and documented 1199 build out ever. You obviously possess and demonstrate very talented graphics and website design skills. Your creations ooze taste. Seeing your build through will be well worth it (as you know as you have done all this before on a different bike). The time it takes to do your build out is not important, take your time and continue to cut no corners. It will be well worth it and the end result will be unique.

One humble suggestion, it looks like $$$ is not an issue with you. Consider getting the AEM 41T Sprocket, Hardened Aluminum Sprocket, Titanium bushes, nuts, etc. The AEM kit is both a work of art and just uber cool - worth the money and effort getting the parts. On my bike the AEM 41T sprocket is my favorite part.

See your project through as many folks here understand and appreciate you sharing the fruits of your work.

I was following this build late last year and wondering, what ever did come of it? what the OP able to finish the bike? ( know there was some illness OP was dealing with)

Well it's been a while but the project is finally reaching completion. Yes, it really has taken me this long. What's worse is I have not even ridden the bike yet. It has covered 6 miles (all of which were during it's PDI by the dealer on the 10th April 2014!!)

After a few personal setbacks and many many logistical problems with parts, time and other commitments, she's nearly ready. To say I am looking forward to finally riding the bike would be a massive understatement. If you are subscribed to the newsletter, you will shortly receive an update with some images of the new bodywork. Within the next week or so I will be uploading pictures of the completed bike to the website and I will throw a few on here as well for good measure. Thanks for your patience and I hope to bring you more news very soon.

Dear Topolino

When you started this thread, I though "yeah, another web IT guy who just wants to write about things he thinks he's going to do..., and never does".

Now I am very happy that you did the job and made your dream bike. Very cool indeed!!!
You've got one kind of a bike! Put it in your living room and ride it sometimes, just to let it breath :)

What's your next project?

After some PMs with you in the past I'll be glad to try to give you assisantance for your future project.

Yours respectfully
Urs

Not sure there will be another project on the horizon for some time, well not on this scale at least. I do have another in mind but on a much smaller capacity bike. Been looking at a racing Beta 125 from the early 80's or a 250 Desmo. Anyhow just spent the evening making up paper templates for the lower fairing heat shields. Time consuming work but got one side almost done already. Though they came with a thin shield already in place, I don't want to risk cooking the awesome paint job, so this is extra insurance. I will post up some pictures tomorrow. Once they are finished then it's just the VentureShield to go and the project is complete.

509 days and several hundred hours building the bike back up. Finished at last.
