I cannot access the website yet as it's not available until after the 17th October.

Ducati - Project 1408

From what I can gather the 1299 motor gets the same SL treatment as the 1199. It will be pushing around the 220 bhp mark.

Also it will have a full carbon fibre chassis i.e. sub-frame, front fairing stay and airbox topped off with carbon fibre wheels.

Pricing around the £60k - £70k.

holy $hit this is gonna be amazing.. cant wait to see the real thing

Wow another "special limited edition." Good lord Ducati is scraping the bottom of the barrel. Every six months a "super duper special limited edition" bike is being released from them. It will be nothing more than a lot of lightweight material and a few different internals. Once again, you could rip apart a base and make twice the bike for half the price.

When we see a new D16RR or similar give me a call and maybe I'll jump with joy. These limited runs hold zero value when you do them every year.

I basically built the motor that they are proposing and yes it's not difficult to get the HP numbers up there. Head work and fueling will do it. BST is making the wheels for this and they will be a different design. Ducati is struggling with the CF airbox. BST could build it as well. BST will probably also supply the swingarm as they are already doing it for another customer (1199/1299). I believe CDT has been approached to contract the body. They too have an OEM program. Now if they are smart, they will not half ... the rest like all the "special" bikes and put the good Brembo and Ohlins stuff on there. BST also has a cf triple clamp for the FGR 300. Titanium hardware bla bla. personally I don't see this bike happening in this configuration. They had one on display in Italy but the trained eye quickly caught that the frame, swingarm and wheels were cf wrap/paint understandable as it's still conceptual according to corporate. I'd rather see this scrapped and a next gen get started. The 1299 has a ton of bolt on stuff that already enables an "overkill" status. Just get on with the evolution already.

While the rebuild guys get going on the Base conversion  -- i'd rather be riding the factory version ;) Thank You Very Much !!

(although you Base Builders do have a good head start, as we wont see this bike until springtime - hopefully)

From what I know BST is doing the wheels and I thought they were working internally for the carbon upper monocoque and swing arm. With the WSBK pipe 220hp seems very realistic. This bike should be on a while new level.

The Volkswagen corporation has to get their money someplace to pay off their debt. Plenty of people who fall for their gigs.

there are "new" special version of ferraris and lambos coming out every 6 months. why not the bikes. it is expensive but not expensive as those super or hyper cars. i just love the fact that they are making lots of cool stuff & whether i get it or not i am just happy to see cool new bikes keep coming out.

The "factory" bike as RD16RR puts it is fine. The issue i have always had is simple and is very well proven by the fact that just take a look around at all the money that is spent in aftermarket parts on what is an already expensive bike just on this forum. Even the guys here who have had or have a Desmo or SL have in many cases dumped thousands of additional dollars into the bikes. Traditionally the factory limited edition or special build bikes give a few nice pieces (that can be replicated or exceeded) and then charge you way more for basic OEM parts that come on the stock bikes. Hell the damn SL has stock brakes, masters, rear sets, bars, forks (RT Ohlins are less expensive and a better fork), clutch, electronics, etc. They could at least use better components but they don't. Look at all the cheap pieces the Desmo came with (I know, I replaced all of them) so my point was for the money they charge, they could do all the right things but they never do. Building it myself, I get better parts, i get the parts I want and i dont have a garage full of "take off" parts. If you a collector, great but you will not get your money out of bikes unless they are well aged.
