Yeah, the GP ones are huge. The ones on the little bikes look tiny though. I would imagine the x-ray them after crashes before putting them back into service. I seem to recall that the Pierobon daul sided swingarm was supposed to save a bunch of weight over the single sided version. But I've never seen a report of one in the wild.

i suspect looking at pic that it is a thick carbon wrap over aluminum extrusions running all inside it... if so, then the carbon can fail and you still have measure of insurance from internal metal.... i may be wrong...

i'd assume as well that the mgp ones are aluminum with CF protection.

Agreed, but I don't think the SP's could handle hours on the track with Casey at the helm.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. However, my Panigale has a lot of..... bling, non-track related parts on it as many here have as well. If that bike hits the ground it's a total wash or potentially anyway. That's not a risk i'm willing to take. My track bike is a 2011 S1000RR that I purchased second hand and has specific items on it for the track. If that bike hits the deck it has items on it to protect it and maybe, just maybe it survives. If it doesn't..... well that sucks, but I still have my pride and joy to ride everyday. :)

That is a little difference, because the bike you are putting on the track is great also.

I am more referring to the people that will have a Panigale (or R1, or RSV4, etc), but then will take a 2003 ZX6R to the track rather than the good bike.

I have just never understood that. Anything can get somebody to the store or through the mountains. A street bike is completely irrelevant. It makes more sense to ride the kickass bike on the track and keep the ...... bike for the street IMO.

never saw one.....what is the frequency of replacement, assuming they actually do run them?

No assumption to be made, what he said is a fact. They have been running them for a while. Several other teams have experimented with them also.

Sam Lowes' crew chief loves them and tried to get Sam to use one, but he didn't like it. He tested it a few times, but it was too stiff and didn't give him the feel he wanted. The bosses are big on them and it actually got a little heated because of how bad they wanted him to use one...and because of how bad he didn't want to use one.

This logic would make sense to those who can afford to wreck a modded Panigale and not lose sleep over it. Most of us (including myself) aren't that financially fortunate but do good enough to be able to afford certain toys. I purchased my 07 cbr600rr with 5700 miles on it in near mint condition with a slipon exhaust for $2500. My suspension, wheels and exhaust on my Panigale all cost more than that. I'm not able to outride my cbr and certainly dont plan on pushing it on the 1199. I prefer to do my part in making sure that I reduce my chances of wrecking my 1199. I'm aware I'm at a risk riding it on the streets in the first place but that's a chance I'm much more willing to take than pushin it on the track and potentially totalling it. I don't care how good of a rider you are or any pro racer is. I enjoy ridin my 1199 half ... around town as much as anyone does pushin any bike they own on the track. If I totalled my cbr, as long as I'm alright, I'd probably laugh it off and not lose any sleep over it. There is literally 0 benefit in takin my 1199 to the track over my cbr. I'm not going to enjoy my trackday any more or less on one bike over the other since I don't go to impress anyone or try n beat some personal lap time. It's about havin fun and makin sure I do my best to end the day safely so I can do it again some other day. If money was no object, sure....give me a couple 1299SL's. One for the track and another to place as a display but that isn't the case. I don't need a grom, a moped or some ugly sportbike just to ride the streets. I buy bikes for the street based on looks alone and nothing else. I could care less if the 1199 was one of the worst performance bikes on the market. It sounds like ... and has looks to match. Those 2 are good enough reasons for me to buy. The rest is icing on the cake. I like modding my cars and bikes so all the "bling" items on my 1199 is for looks and looks only. I just don't know to leave well enough alone. I don't do bike nights and definitely don't frequent starbucks either. In 3 1/2 years, I've put on 4700 miles on my 1199 and still on original tires with about an inch or inch n a quarter chicken strips. Can't nobody tell me they enjoy ridin their italian exotic on the track more than I like mine commuting to and from work during my 7 mile roundtrip which literally has 0 turns. This logic may not make any sense to you but makes all the sense to a lot of us in the sportbike world.

looks completely different from 1299SL -- far beefier and double-sided... still dont trust it on longish service street bike -- they prob swap em and test em all the time.....

Yeah, look, he just re inflates it and off you go! [emoji1]

Love this bike but it's out of our league :) we don't earn enough money lol !!!

Congrats to anyone who owns one good one ya !!!!

LOL
