It's like the SL, comes with an exhaust that will probably be the same street legal titanium pipe the Panigale R and SL had. Bit will come with the box that has the race pipe in it.

I realize I'm but a ghost on this site these days, but I also got invited to check out this unicorn and still have all three "invite a friend" slots - so if any of you would like one just PM me.

(and hello to all the regs)

Psst..... My SL has more track miles than street miles.

I don't see how ANYONE could ever complain about building a new SL. They are doing something most other manufactures would NEVER dream of doing.

Is this bike going to be perfect, no. Is there better bikes out their, maybe.

But who else is putting this out to the public. I am very fortunate to have multi bikes & hands down the SL is so far above each bike it's not even funny.

The fact that Ducati even makes this an option for us is awesome, I don't know how anyone could ever complain about this being available to the general public.

Is it expensive, yes. It's not mean to be for everyone, but is that a bad thing?

I cannot wait to see this bad boy.... :D

ive only seen one sl in the wild and it was on the track in nj. ive also only seen 1 bayliss in the wild (not counting my friends) and that was at the track in nj.

great to see these bikes running on the track wish i had the nads to put the 1199 on the track

You should put your 1199 on the track. Take it along with your track bike and go out on a session that is not full. That way you can enjoy the track and not have the concern of some yahoo taking you and your 1199 out. Even with 15 years of Road racing behind me. I could not fully appreciate how my 1299 was till I did some track time with it. The Panigale is such a great bike and you will get more from it by enjoying it on the track. Even if it just for a session or two.

1000% agreed, you CANNOT fully appreciate just how awesome these bikes are unless you track them.

That is what they are made for.... The SL is not a fun street bike, but on the track it is unbelievable.

Just because you are on the track, doesn't mean you need to go try and win a race, just go out on at your own pace & don't be stupid.

I don't ever go nuts on my SL, but I push it enough to bring a big ... smile on my face.

A Ducati 1299 Superleggera with a Carbon Fiber Frame??!

Ducati has begun teasing something very special, which for now is going by the name of “Project 1408” on a micro-website the Italian manufacturer has setup.
The site itself has no information, and doesn’t even tease what Project 1408 could be, but Ducati has already begun reaching out to its VIP customers, teasing something made from carbon fiber.
Sources tell us though that the Ducati Project 1408 is a new Superleggera model, based off the Ducati 1299 Panigale platform.
This new superbike isn’t just the Ducati 1199 Superleggera with the 1299 motor bolted into it though, with our sources saying that the Ducati 1299 Superleggera takes the weight savings a step further, with the highlight being a carbon fiber chassis.
Where as the Ducati 1199 Superleggera used magnesium as the material of choice for Ducati’s “frameless” chassis, the Ducati 1299 Superleggera will use carbon fiber, a nod to Ducati’s MotoGP program, before it switched back to an aluminum twin-spar chassis.
Expect then to see a carbon fiber headstock/airbox, as well as a carbon fiber swingarm, on the Ducati 1299 Superleggera.
Other goodies will include brand new top-shelf Ohlins suspension pieces, though we understand these not to be the electronic semi-active variety, as those are too heavy.
The wheels will be carbon fiber as well, made by BST, and you can expect similar attention to weight savings throughout the entire machine, as was seen on the preceding Superleggera model.
The exhaust is said to look very similar to the one currently being used in the factory Ducati World Superbike team, with exhaust exits under the seat, rather than underslung below the chassis. We would assume this exhaust will again be a titanium Akrapovic unit.
The motor too is said to be close to WSBK-spec, and we have seen rumors of 220hp being floated about on Ducati message forums by contacted customers. If true, then this truly would distinguish the Ducati 1299 Superleggera in Bologna’s lineup, making it both the lightest and most powerful superbike ever from the Italian factory.
As such, ee can expect the Ducati 1299 Superleggera to end up costing north of $65,000 in the USA, as it assuredly will command even more of a premium than its 1199 counterpart. With that in mind, we would guesstimate a $70,000 price tag for the 1299 Superleggera, though caution that pricing across different countries will fluctuate.
It is expected that the Ducati 1299 Superleggera will be the last model in the Panigale line, with a new superbike expected for the 2018 model year. There are strong indications from A&R sources that the 2018 model year Superbike will have a V4 power plant.
Expect to se the Ducati 1299 Superleggera break cover on November 7th, in Milan.

^^^ Sounds like an incredible awesome bike but the key thing I read that really interests me was "last model in the Panigale line...2018 model year Superbike will have a V4 power plant".

you know what my buddy keeps saying to do that too i think i will. one of the later sessions where most people have left maybe drop down a group too. why not im going to go for it just dont how soon i can get to the track with my move.

My wife just took a trip to Australia for a few days with a close friend and in return for offering to pay for her hotel, she visited the local Ducati shop, Frasers... and picked up a t-shirt for me.

I had mentioned hearing, or more specifically reading, about the SL a dealer had that didn't have a number stamped on the triple. While she was there, she asked about it and the salesman happened to have a customer's bike in the back while they were away.

She snapped the attached shot(s).

Do it, cause you won't regret it. Then let's hear your thoughts on it after a good track ride.

My dealer already has an order in for the 1299 SL. Says he will give me a shout so I can take a look at it when it comes in.

Incidentally, my R got knocked over while stationary by some ........ It caused over £6200 in damage......... I reckon you could stick a 1 in front of that figure if she did it to this bike!!

Project 1408 Go Fund Me

I only need 10,000 donations of $10 to get this bike and of course matching leathers made. It's a worthy cause as it will enable me to keep my PS and Anniversario.
I'll toss in the first $10.
