Questions to those who wear Full Leathers on Street

Going to look into one of those " leggy packs ".
I admit, I used to wear a small purple fanny pack with my 1 piece back in the '90s.

I'm surprised more folks don't put both wallet and cell phone under the cowl. That is what I have done on my Ninja 1000 and I find that the Ducati has plenty of room under there as well.

I put a phone, keys, clip with docs/cash under the cowl. It fits very nice, no issue. I wear full leathers all the time, taking no chances!

^i just don't like the fact that you have to turn off the engine to remove the cowl (unless you carry an extra key). also i'd hate to get off the bike just to check my phone but i understand it works for some riders.

Dunno.. Wallet, keys, hat, phone? Maybe a camera or a book? Some M&Ms?

Capt CF,

I took the hip pack paintballing at Pev's yesterday. I slid on it, fell on it and it had paint splattered all over it. I was surprised that no zippers broke and the bag did not tear apart. For the ~$22 it cost, it held up great. I am sure it will hold up well on rides.

This thread is a few months old, sorry. But I am just running into this problem now and was doing some research into how the others around were approaching the problem.

I just bought a one piece suit (Dainese Trickster Kangaroo, Axial Pro In boots), my first set of leathers. I live in Germany now, and figured I might need to up my game when it comes to wearing protective gear around here. I also have a brand new daughter (1st) and the wife was kind of insisting. Which made it easy to convince her that I should get a really good, comfortable suit so I would actually wear it.

Anyway, back to the subject. I think I'm going to try one of these low profile running "waist packs." I get it, it's still a fanny pack really. But it's just big enough to carry my wallet, phone, gum and extra key for the house. I'm thinking this one:

iFitness-Running belts/Marathon runners/Phone & gels/Gear

I would wear it so the stuff is in back and the buckle in front. As low profile as it is I don't think it will be ripped off when I'm at speed on the autobahn. And hopefully it isn't even really noticeable by me or others. I only really need to access it at the gas station. When I ride, it's just to ride usually. I rarely commute on my bike. But that should be a lot easier than putting stuff in the cowl, which I don't even think would fit everything I carry. A backpack is out of the question because the leathers have a full hump in back.

I just thought I would mention this idea since I read through the thread and no one had brought up.

I've worn Kriega R20 or R25 backpacks with 1 piece leathers with aero humps with no problem. Just don't pack them too tight.

I also took the Kriega recommendation and picked up a US 20 and a US 10 to use for commuting. I strap them to the bike and they are bone dry even in a major downpour. I stuck with the cheap ebay drop leg pack for fun riding and, as knutts points out, it holds up better than it initially seems like it will. I've been using that on every ride on the Pani all summer and it works great for keys, wallet, phone, etc. I don't put anything in the cowl.

I like this

That's what I have, but be aware it isn't Dainese (at least none of the ones I have seen are). Some outfit makes several versions of the same rather cheap bag and has labeled them with various manufacturers (Dainese, Honda, Yamaha, A*, etc. etc.). Mine is labeled TMS racing or something like that. Anyway, don't pay more for one that is labeled something else since as far as I know they are the exact same bag (unless you really want a specific label).

Here are a bunch of them - http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313&_nkw=drop+leg+motorcycle&_sacat=0&_from=R40

I prefer to use just this:

Here it is in use on Blood Mountain, GA. The main pocket has an inner bag that can be cinched and provides some waterproofness in case you get caught in a shower. Happened to me over the 4th of July holiday and kept my phone and camera dry (but I keep them in Ziploc bags just to be sure). In the video it is full and expanded but it can be adjusted to be lower profile if not full of gear.

I can tell just from the picture that the build quality on that is vastly superior to the ebay drop leg pack. I'll look for something like this once the zippers blow out on what I have now.

Just an update for those with this bag. My buckle snapped in half on Sunday and I almost lost my Gloc...er, wallet. :) I made it home by tying the waist straps together, but I am replacing this with something more burly or threading a proper belt through the spot on the back of the pack and eliminating the stock belt/buckles. They may look like Fastex, but they definitely are not.

Hey Capt,

Glad you didn't lose your .40 caliber wallet ;)

I see my picture link got outdated in the post above so I'll again recommend a Maxpedition Thermite waistpack. It fits everything I need for day trips, and has a cinch-able inner pocket liner to help keep my M&P .45 insurance policy dry.

I like it because it looks tactical. :) I ordered a Givi leg bag, but it doesn't scream Jack Bauer the way yours does.

My DL and ATM card fit in my phone case. Those go under the cowl.

Full leathers anytime I push it.

Commuting I dont gear up at all.

I use a RAM mount for my phone, but was using the drop leg bag for wallet, keys and other necessary stuff. I don't like stuff in my jacket pockets for some reason. Probably because I switched to wearing leathers every time I ride this twitchy throttle nightmare and it's uncomfortable to have things in your pockets when you are wearing clothing that tight. :)

On a positive note I can at least now say "what heat?" when heat threads come up.
