Hello all, over the last few months been debating upgrading my R1 to a new 1199. Wasn't looking to break the bank as I use the bike only for street riding and my amusement so had been eyeing a White ABS base. Well, visited my local Duc dealer for about the 3rd weekend in a row now and this Saturday randomly found a new white ABS 1199S hiding in the back and couldn't pass up the gold Ohlins and few extra features. Long story short, it's now sitting in my garage! Look forward to racking up some quick miles this next week and getting over the break in so I can enjoy it to its fullest. Here's a few pictures of my old 2011 R1, and the new 1199 S! Should be getting quickly to the modding =)

either suspension on the R1 must be broken or you're really fat, it looks so low... did it corner low???

;)

congrats on the 1199 and please keep the mods limited to making it a better bike, not a cooler bike :D

welcome to THE FORUM.

sorry, i forgot, there are no corners in FL.

welcome to THE FORUM.

It was lowered 3/4", just enough to get my feet flat on the ground. I mod for myself, I don't care what anyone else thinks or likes ;)

most forum members here have allergies against lowering and stretching, as well as blinging ;) ;) ;)

This bike will be 100% street typically my back and forth to work 20 miles each way. I do what I want with my bikes/cars and don't care if it's for anyone else's taste. The R1 was lowered to make it comfortable for the 10k miles I put on it a year and the Panigale will be receiving the same. If you like it cool, if you don't fine too. :)

Thanks for the welcome though guys!

I Did the same move last year.
06 R1 to 1199S.

Was always wanting to grab parts for my R1 like Marchesnini rims, Ohlins forks/shock, Brembo brakes.
Never forked out the $10K+ on these parts.
Saw the release of the Ducati 1199s with all the new technology, the sound & looks.
Long story I fell in Love. All the goodies I like & more.

And the banter begins. each to their own in this world and if he wants to drop and stretch then so be it. However the R1 was only dropped correct?? Could be a big task stretching the single sided swing arm and would be intersting to see that, I am only 5ft 5in and the Pani is just manageable height wise, have looked at the adjustable rear link to drop it slightly, but I like to corner at speed and it could affect its handling if not done correctly.

I enjoyed the R1, was a good and comfy bike for what I did with it. I liked the low end torque the crossplane motor had and loved it's different sound, especially with my exhaust. The bike was always more than I needed but I typically own those types of things, and it will always continue!

No it was stock length, I'm not a stretch kind of guy. I am a turbo kind of guy though :D I lowered it just to make it comfortable when in traffic. I never did with it what the bike was capable of so any loss of handling because of the slight height adjustment who cares. This bike will be treated no different. I know not the typical rider of an 1199 but I bought it so I can do as I please. Could a $5K bike do all that I need, absolutely, does it put the smile on my face the R1 did or this new bike does, absolutely not! The Panigale will be getting lowered a small amount, just to put my feet flat on the ground. I already have the comfort seat for it, but it puts me even more on my toes so it'll stay in the box until it's a little lower. Already ordered the Sato rear adjustable link, Zero Gravity smoked windscreen, and all the materials to build my own exhaust as I did on the R1.

On every forum you have the purists that hates any type of modifications, I understand. Is what it is, my bike though, I do as I please!

Good man, I like your style!!! Take into account doing your own exhaust could open up a can of worms (tuning wise), be good to see what you come up with. Drop the rear, drop the front to compensate and it will still handle. You are correct, the purist Ducati owners are precious, if its not DP parts then they dis you for it, I posted my new pegs and levers which are relly good quality but not Ducati branded and got mocked for it, but I am like you, I dont give a .... what others think, as long as I am happy with the way my bike looks. Now a turbo Panigale has crossed my mind!!! that might be a new thread on its own!!

I've spoken to a few people about the exhaust already, and also getting the full exhaust tune. I also have solidworks and can do my own flow testing and balancing of banks before I get started. I do fabrication and custom turbo stuff for a living, I know my way around those types of things. I was actually planning to turbo my R1, went the 1199 route instead!

When I'm not on the bike, here's my daily :)

Nice!!!! Like the custom work under the hood. Many ears will have pricked up with your last comment re flow bench etc, and you have pics to show you have the proof of refined finishing and attention to detail. Most of the haters have gone from here, you will get use to the warped Ducati owners sense of humour also, now you own one you can be slightly eccentric too!!!

Enjoy! What color will you paint it??

(Come on guys, I know its Monday but I thought this would be the first or second comment!! :D )

Paint what? The bike? I don't intend to paint the bike itself, I like factory paint quality. My R1 was factory colors as well, I never touched the paint except for the wheels. The wheels on the 1199 will soon be gold as well when a tire change is due!

Nice change, I too went from an R1 (I still own it, 08 MY) to a Ducati. But I got the red becasue it is faster :p

I like the Z3 too, how many horsies are you putting down?

Lol. It's a running joke here. Now that you have it primed, what color will you paint it? I like the white though:)

Ahh ok, you park it next to your red Ferrari too? ;)

M puts down 564whp/505wtq on pump gas
