Dear All,

I am new to the forum, new to Ducati and new to the Panigale.

I recently purchased a 1199S and I am very pleased with its performance. I would however like to upgrade the bike further and while several of my riding buddies are very much into putting a lot of colors and "bling" on their bikes, I wonder if you guys can help me in recommending products that will actually make a performance difference for the 1199S (speed/power/handling).

For now, I am considering the following:
- BST Carbon rims
- Lighter fly wheel (which brand to go for?)
- Maybe play with the gearing (but not enough knowledge of this yet)

Are there other upgrades or changes recommended for the Panigale while still keeping it street legal?

This thread is mostly to learn from more expereinced Panigale riders, so pls be patient if I should ask questions which you would consider common sense.

Thank you

Flywheel off the R is 250$
14T front sprocket (what gearing is on it now?)
Remove charcoal canister if yours came with one
Race seat

Bst's are great, maybe you want to look into rotobox as well...

If I am right, Singapore is relatively strict with emissions, that would rule exhausts out , or?

get a full akrapaovic exhaust, an MRE air filter, rapid bike module and that bike will do wheelies in 3rd gear at 120 mph....

the rims would be a really nice touch, and lighter unsprung mass will always help. however bumps will shake the bike more, (my experience from doing it years ago)

if you get the rims, get an ohlins steering damper to help with the lighter front wheel.

the engine mod seems excessive. the ideas above will make your ducati fast as .........

@Phl - thank you for the feedback. I will look into the flywheel. I am not sure which gearing there is on now, but assume standard as nothing has been changed except tyres. Not sure what the standard gearing is though. Why recommending 14T?

Why are people removing the canister?

Yes - the exhaust may be an issue due to government regulations. Otherwise the full Akrapovic looks intersting for sure.

@ Charleston 1199 - thank you for the reply and noted on the rims. What difference does the Rapid Bike Module make on the Panigale?

the rapid bike module is a plug and play solution for the throttle/rpm/air fuel mix.

its a really good way to smooth out the ride ability of the motorcycle and have an easy building block for additional engine mods along the way.

i dont know if you have noticed yes/no but anything under 6,000 rpm the bike is absolutely miserable. its surges, has flat spots and basically says " i dont want to be doing this"

the rapid bike module allows you to make the bike more palatable around town and other amazing things as well( but for me i wanted a good fix for daily riding)

ask Yaman on this forum he is our go to guy on this issue.

I wouldn't get the MRE filter. I had one and wasn't impressed. Instead, look to the Sprint P08.

There was a recent thread in which someone published a test of high flow air filters. The MRE was one of the worst.

Rapid Bike module for sure, get the Rapid Bike Racing if you can afford it, if not just go for the Rapid Bike EVO. IMO this was the biggest change. An exhaust is nice, but the cost to benefit ratio just isn't there as much as the Rapid Bike. Also look into the throttle spacers from Ducati Omaha. Takes all of the freeplay out of the throttle.

I had a 41T rear sprocket setup, but ended up going back to stock. For track riding I can see the benefit of a 41T rear or a 14T front (which basically accomplish the same thing) but on the street I don't feel its needed.

The charcoal canister is an emission control device for US bikes. Said to cause hot starting issues. I don't think they're installed on bikes to other countries.

Thank you for the input.

So when using the Rapid Bike Module, is that something that needs to be set up by an experienced mechanic in order to get optimal results or is it easy to set up yourself?

1 Set the bike up for your weight
2 Go do track days.......trust me you forget all about bling parts .

Does the Rapid Bike module require a good mechanic to install and setup or does it make more sense to configure the module yourself?

Plug'n'play and if you know one end of a wrench from the other you should be able to install...

As everyone said, rapid bike module (get the race as its a bit more but it will be better in the long run, can also put on different bikes in the future, just change the harness for the bike at that point)

BST wheels great improvement, they arent that much lighter then the stock S wheels, but the mass is closer to the center of the hub so you will have less rotating mass, help with braking, acceleration and of course turning... I practically had to relearn how to ride my bike after I installed them.

Adjust your suspension, get it set with the proper sag and also your pitch (we have tons of threads on setting but I would take to a pro and tell them what you are needing and they will help greatly)

front sprocket is a great change also, going to a 14T is a huge gain in the low end. IF i did it again, i would just do the whole 520 with a 42T rear sprocket instead.

1. 899 seat
2. RapidBike module
3. Akrapovic exhaust
4. DP (or other aftermarket) rearsets

In my honest opinion - I have BST wheels on my 1199S - the BST wheels are a night and day transformation on a base 1199, but that transformation is considerably less apparent when going from S forged aluminium wheels to BST carbon. You'd feel more of a difference if you installed Brembo HP rotors (available at Ducati Omaha for ~$700 IIRC). Going with BST's, there is "a" difference but not a Huge one-- unless your goal is the aesthetic/bling factor, that's a different story!

I think the 15f-41r gearing is awesome but only on the 1199R which revs 500rpms higher, to compensate.
Likewise, the lightened flywheel makes perfect sense on the 1199R, but only because it's coupled with lighter engine internals (con-rods in this case).
I didn't enjoy the 41T rear sprocket on my 1199S without 500 extra rpms and reverted back to the 39T in less than a week. *This may be different for you depending on where and how your ride*
That said, I never tried installing the lighter flywheel. If you go that route, please share your findings.

Congratulations and welcome to the forum..

Few things to think about.

I would do the PCV with autotune and Ignition module instead of the Rapid Bike module. :D

depends what you're gunning for?

bling:
1) akrapovic full system, must have bling
2) lots of glossy carbon fiber bits

lap times:
1) rapid bike module - helps with stock exhaust or after any market exhaust
2) right suspension springs
