So I've just picked up a set of new track bodywork and I'm going to paint it.

I'm going to make a temporary paint booth in my garage, with filters and exhaust fan.

This doesn't have to be car show quality, but I'd like to make it better than rattle can.

All the parts are fairly small that I'll be painting.

I've got a decent compressor and a commercial grade spray gun, but I've never used it.

I've got three sets of other bodywork that I will experiment on before I do the set for my 1299.

I've watched lots of YouTube videos which are great, but where I fall short of knowledge is the types of paints, base coats and top coats that I should be using and what is compatible with each.

So any tips would be appreciated.

You can get the actual Ducati Paint codes and use Colorite to order a kit to do it.

ColorRite Motorcycle Paint

You can also choose any bike or auto paint you want an order an entire kit using the menu on the right of the item page..

Are you anywhere near Austin, TX? You should talk to Vito at Ducati-Austin. He used to paint our race bikes when we were racing/partnering together. He knows all that stuff and could probably give you a few quick pointers if you're looking to try your hand at it.

Thanks all, especially Mr C, you are giving me inspiration.

Charliem90, I'm up just north of Dallas, about 210 miles from Austin...

Connecticut Cycle Refinishing (CCR) !

Custom Motorcycle Paint | Connecticut Cycle Refinishing

Search forum to see all the unreal track and street paint jobs members have had done by Sean there! And the best part is, they don't cost anywhere near what one thinks a professional paint job would cost! (However, not as inexpensive as what you are looking to do from paint cans and such-lol)

Just a thought, thats all brother. :)

I used to hang and ride ATV's with Sean, when I lived in CT. We were buddies when he quit his job making armored limo's and started CCR.

He painted the SharkSkinz bodywork on my 1098S. He did a brilliant job, but having a go at painting is something I've always wanted to have a go at. I figured if I 'F' it up, I just break out the wet and dry and then ship t to Sean.

I rattle canned my Honda CB400F, circa 1975

Chris!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great to hear you're still above ground and riding..... .... we did have some crazy times on those quads. If you remember i had my Honda 250R for exactly 13 days when my other riding buddy and I hit head on with a closing speed of about 90mph, totalling both bikes. He got the worst of it with a broken sternum, ruptured spleen and three compressed discs in his back. Anyway... back to paint...

Drop me an email and I'll give you all the tech tips you need...if you haven't already completed the job.

Hey Chris.
I sent Sean your post with pics and all and he was so shocked and happy I'm glad he wrote back to you on here buddy! Always good to reconnect with an old childhood buddy, and of all places a Ducati forum as well right! I'm stoked you two got back in touch.

I've been praising Sean and his flawless work here, and other Ducati forums for years now. He's had several customers get some seriously sweet paintwork done to their bikes - which should be found via the search engine here. He's done about 6-7 jobs of my own and the last being a kick ... front fender out of the ugly matte carbon fiber that came stock on my Tricolore 1199. No pics here on cell to attach but that can also be found searching under his name or CCR - spelled out the whole way. Make sure you get a look at that Chris! Can't wait to see how you do on your own as well so be sure to keep us all posted on it please? Again, glad I could get you two guys back in touch with each other !

Thanks Gunny, I pm'd Sean.

While living just outside Nashville, one of my riding buddies worked for PPG and also painted a few bike pieces for me.

He is sending me the paint, primers, sealers, etc., for a couple of projects I have planned.

I should be laying paint down in the next couple of weeks. I'm hoping my results look as impressive as those in some of the earlier posts in this thread.

Well I'm getting closer, I have all the paint, chemicals, spray gun, filters, respirator. Now the project has started in earnest in my garage.

I bought $45 worth of cheapest clip together wood laminate flooring, about $25 worth of 1" x 3" x 8' wood slats, a $22 screen door, a $20 20" fan, a $5 filter and a roll of the heaviest plastic that I could find. The plastic stated it was clear, but it's more translucent, it really doesn't block hardly any light.

If necessary, I may add another fan or filter.

I'm hoping we get a mild, low humidity November.

This was my last custom job on my 848 Corse before I sold it. Just tape and rattle cans...

Once I find track fairings for my 1299 I'll probably do a similar design in black/gold.

I second CCR. I just posted some shots of my fairings that Sean did for me at the beginning of the 2014 season. I'm finally sending the fairings back to Sean for a refresh. Honestly, they are in great shape, but I'm kind of anal.....

Had a couple of back to back nice days, so I started painting.

Here's a couple of pieces just before clear coating. Pictures aren't that great, took them with my iPhone, but you get the picture.

That is probably the best redneck paint job I've seen dude.. Nice job.. Can't wait to see the rest.

Got a few pieces buffed out today, it got a few tiny boo boo's, but I'm real happy with it. I've still got 3 pieces left to finish as soon as we get a warmish day.
