Lol, when you make a 200hp Superbike, odds are the front end will come up. This is a street legal race bike. Ducati knows what they've built here and I highly doubt Ducati cares what we write here especially about wheelies.

Plus that is just a guess as to why the tab sheered off. From what I'm hearing from many riders and other dealerships I've just called, it happens to many riders. So maybe it's a design flaw to have a plastic tab locking the housing to an aluminum bar. How about a steel pin or a removal pin that when it breaks the dealer doesn't wanna sell you a $300 part and instead you can buy a $10 part.

No reason to freak out, I'll do the tape and wait to find the replacement part off eBay or something. Just thought Ducati would treat me better than this.

You are new here...Your statement highlighted is anecdotally flawed...believe me...;)

Just pm white13pani I'm sure he has one laying around somewhere

Anecdotally I'm flawed haha. Funny sounding. Well my anecdote is I've been to many dealers in southern Cal and no one has heard of this forum. That's why I try to get info here cuz dealers keep telling me incorrect information about gearing, remaps, ecu flashes, exhausts, tires, etc, etc, etc. So if you know some Ducati rep reading these threads and has issues with them, good for you cuz it doesn't come off to me that Ducati can legally deny a warranty claim based on reading someone named Sergio in San Diego did a wheelie and added grips and now says a very cheap tab part broke so we're in the know of what is really going on here and eff Sergio lol.

My upcoming letter to Ducati is what I hope they put more weight in and see where I'm coming from. In fact, maybe I'll print this out and send it in too and show Ducati all the people who are saying the same thing has happened to them and the many PMs I'm getting saying the same thing. Just kidding, I wouldn't send any forum stuff in. It's not that big a deal.

Again, just thought Ducati would treat us better. I'll fix it myself. Just needed a little venting.

STW posted that because Ducati corporate DOES IN FACT READ ALL OF THE DUCATI FORUMS. If you post "anything online anywhere," which can be used against you, it will. You wont be the first or last. This is the truth.

I do hope you get this issue resolved though and I feel your pain because it does suck.

I cannot believe this just occurred to me. I bought a new Audi a few weeks ago and I'll bet that will give me more leverage if I have a problem like this with my Ducati........yeah, I said that with a straight face!

Takes a lot of force to break that plastic piece, and sounds like you know what caused this (throttle chop on landing wheelies?). Mine broke, too, when some ....... at Laguna Seca twisted the throttle until it broke, then kept twisting it until the brake lever was pushed up into the fairing.

The part failed due to some sort of abuse...whether it was at your hand or not. Ducati is usually pretty damn good about grey lines and side on the customer side. But this part, in my experience, is one that doesn't fail without some really hamfisted antics that extend well beyond normal use. I can see why Ducati didn't cover this and don't think they deserve a black eye for not warrantying something that broke due to no fault of theirs.

I bit the bullet and bought a new one from Pandora's Parts, but used ones come up on eBay all the time.

Write a letter. Be very nice and let them know you would love to fix this without going through small claims court.

So since so many of us have had this issue, don't you think the design can have a flaw???? If I were a Ducati engineer and I knew what the Ducatisti fans expected, I would not make a part of plastic that MANY owners have broken. Just sayin'.... I work for a Fortune 50 company and know how corporate companies work. Customer feedback and service are secondary to bottom line. And at the price level the 1199 is at, i don't think it's cool to have a plastic tab on an important throttle housing and saying the manufacturing process is so tight that there's no way the tab could sheer off. Just sayin'.....

I appreciate your opinion but I can break a plastic tab with little force. 5'9" 190lbs. :D

So maybe we should start a new forum called "1199 Panigale Throttle Housing Tabs Breaking" LOL.

OK, I BELIEVE YOU NOW GUYS...

IF/WHEN DUCATI READS THIS:

DEAR DUCATI, I DID NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY AND THIS THROTTLE UPPER HOUSING LOCKING-TO-THE-BAR TAB SHEERED OFF. PLEASE RETHINK YOUR THROTTLE HOUSING "NOT A MANUFACTURING DEFECT" POINT OF VIEW. YOU HAVE DESIGNED AND ENGINEERED A MAGNIFICENT PIECE OF ART THAT IS A POWERFUL MACHINE AND SHOULD HAVE ALLOWANCES FOR THAT POWER CAUSING ISSUES FOR DAILY COMMUTERS.

IF NOT, I UNDERSTAND HOW A SMALL PART WOULD BANKRUPT YOU, SO THIS WILL PLAY A HUGE PART IN MY NEXT BIKE PURCHASE AND THERE ARE MANY OTHER MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTURERS I CAN RIDE WHEN I'M READY. THE BALL IS IN YOUR COURT :D

Seems like a dumb thing for them to deny warranty on. It seems clear that it's a defective part or bad design. I hope they take care of this issue for you as they should.

I had one claim denied cause they said it was cosmetic and they don't cover that. My issue, like others have had is sunlight through the DP windscreen caused burn marks on my TFT display. Is that a bad design? Or act of nature? Lol

i think i haven't had any bike without this thing broken off.

at the races, they check the housing at tech, by either twisting the grip and see if it's loos or even grabbing the housing and moving it. it's a common defect. not saying that is is normal, just that it's not uncommon.

the tape trick will fix it, by creating circumferential pressure instead of just relying on one pin to hold it.

Never thought this would be such a feisty thread. Love we can throw around opinions on this matter with only a few people calling me names haha. As soon as the rain stops here in SoCal I'll go on a long ride with my taped bar, Phil's cored exhaust, Whte13Pani's glossy CF bits, and my Tuneboy cruise control, and clear my head :D

so explain to me why Ducati would initially deny a claim for a leaking rocket cover? To only change there mind after 6 months of me fighting them and actually going over my dealership head to the Head after service manager in my country?

From my personal experience ducati dealership don't like doing warranty claims, so they won't fight for you and you have to actually have to go higher up to get a resolution.

Every dealership is broken up into regions. Those regions have both sales reps and service reps. When a bike comes in for a warranty claim the dealership suppose to turn around and them get in contact with that rep to authorize the claim (a system is in place to streamline it).

You mention 'in your country'... Your mileage may vary.

In the US dealers then do the work and submit the details (more or less) and then get paid. Warranty work is guaranteed money for a dealership (unless you sell MV Agusta or Aprilla then its a crap shoot). In the US a properly set up dealership has no issues with processing warranty claims since they don't have to then turn around a bill a customer for it. They have heaps of other opportunities for that. But... (Always a but)... It has to comeback to manufacture defect. In your case I imagine seals/gaskets might be a fight because of the wear/tear argument behind a them (should be covered).

I feel like this is Art's warranty deny thread on his motor all over again, just on a much smaller scale. Be happy you're only having to replace a throttle tube and not a new engine
