Stick with stock exhaust?

I can afford them, but would rather spend money elsewhere for something that isn't going to give me $3500 worth of value.
By virtue of the fact that you're tossing up 'value', and considering other options for your 'budget', you are saying otherwise.

And, have resorted to "hey everyone look at me I'm a ........." to make yourself feel better about it.

You're tops!

It's true though....don't get me wrong I LOVE the sound of twins, but the louder it goes, the more you look like a tool riding down the street. Your neighbours already hate you for owning a bike, now you'll be pissing them off even more.

Depends on if the rider can actually ride or is just another poser. ;) As I track my road bike ( or road my track bike ), I've always run a race system on the road.

People look at the booming Ducatis more favourable here in Europe... As long as you are cool about it and idle through the villages, people are generally appreciative of the respect and most admire the beauty of the Ducati as well as it's soundtrack. Everyone I've spoken with in the little villages prefer the booming twin to the screaming I4s... Can't say I blame them.

Good point, motorcycling is a way of life in Europe. In North America, it's a hobby for those that can afford it. Nobody gives a .... about motorcyclists, they look at us as terrorists.

In any case I think it's an overkill for the street and anyone who thinks they are buying it for the performance on the street has their head up their ass.

Yes, it's a shame that many areas of NA have that mentality...

This must be your first Ducati.. Running an open exhaust and tuning on every Ducati Testastretta based superbike that I've ridden, not only slightly increased overall performance, but also strangely enough smoothed out the off idle throttle and low revs responce making them more civil aound town. i once thought that this could just be me and my riding style, but I've heard the same form others as well.

The 1199, being a completely new design, might not follow the same pattern , though I have no reason to think differently at this point in time. Once I get my bike, I'll do a back to back comparison between mine with the full system and the dealer's stock demo bike.

Couldn't agree more....have full systems on the S4RS and 1098S and no regrets. If it will accomplish the same on the 1199 it would be worth it ;)

The aesthetic quality of the 1199 Termi's looks quite a bit nicer than the drunken welds of the DP 1X98 pipes. Just in time to be hidden from view.

I hope, like their 1X98 systems, Akra's (carbon) rear cylinder header shield looks more complimentary than the DP/Termi offering, which looks like it doesn't want to be there. With a titanium header perhaps it can be done away with entirely or shrunk considerably. Hard to pay for stainless when ti is around the corner.

With such a low starting weight, a few high dollar changes would make for a freakishly lightweight 'big' bike...carbon bodywork, LW wheels, chain/sprocket/carrier, ti exhaust, Lion battery, remove exhaust valve.

If I'd wanted quiet I wouldn't have bought a bright red v twin Italian superbike. You really think a few extra DBs makes any difference to the average bystander. They already either love or hate you. There is no middle ground with bikes. Accept who you are and let them do the same.

Thought I'd throw this nugget of information into this thread, as it may help peoples decision making process.......

After reading the slip-on installation manual, its apparent that the exhaust valve motor and associated wiring is all junked during the installation process.

So, no exhaust valve to worry about, which has just bumped the headers a few notches down on my priority list!!

Not sure if I missed it.. but where is the weight savings with the termis? in the headers or slip ons or both?

Mostly slip-ons, but the exhaust motor assembly and loom is also gonna save something :p:p

Headers are just one set of steel pipes for another, so negligible.

That being the case.. why would anyone buy the full system?:confused:

I haven't written off getting the Termis yet, I just want to try out the stock exhaust first before making a decision. From the initial road reviews, the stock exhaust will suffice unlike the previous Ducati models.

Well. A Panigale with full system this week got turned down from a track day for noise reasons, whilst a standard 'S' was fine.
