another great idea ducati had was the rubber booties that cover the electronic suspension. they kind of look like flexible straws and ducati in their infinite wisdom didnt give an extra 1/4 of an inch so these things are pretty stretched out to begin with..

anyhow mine are of course split where you can see the wires. called ducati they said it was ohlins. so i called ohlins and they assured me its ducati. so they said they can change them under warranty. get this 800 bucks for the harness i would need 2 and all that labor. what a waste. the part is 30 cents at most ducati tax add 5 bucks so 10.60 and 5 min to change them.

anybody have a fix or have the same problem or is this another one thats part of the soul of the bike?

Yup, those are the ones. Kinda hard to believe the Ohlins folks didn't come up with a more refined version.

ohlins designed the forks only the wireing harness was ducatis doing. thats according to ohlins.

as i said i called ducati na and they said ohlins when i called ohlins the told me the whole story and its ducati who did it not ohlins

I would have made it a 90 degree connector so there isn't a bend like that on them causing them to crack over time....

Yep, I have a couple of fixes for the problem.
But I'm not telling you.

Needless to say the ones on my 1199 S look nearly brand new.
So I'm happy:)

And I believe this issue has been covered sufficiently on this forum in recent times as it has been pointed out in this thread.

Oh I forgot.
I will go so far as to advise the following in the spirit of being an obliging and helpful forum member.
If you like, you may want to see if you can track down the BMW equivalents through spare parts. You will find it in the RSD if you know what you are looking for;)
They aren't an exact copy, but you will find they're very, very close to the originals and will fit just fine.
They are close enough to the point that no one will be able to tell the difference, except maybe you and me when the bikes are lined up at Starbucks.

See, there you go.
BMW to the rescue;)

The straight ones are a standard design, and the flexible bellows provide more than sufficient articulation for any installation/application.

A unit with a 90 degree bend would have to be specially designed and made by the OEM suppliers, and it would add extra cost and complexity.

It's not the actual design of the units that's the problem as they're fit for purpose.
It's the material specification, and batch to batch variation that's the big issues in this case.

I understand your point and would agree that the material appears to be the issue but wasn't aware that the connector was a shelf item and not specifically designed for this application. If it wasn't a shelf item I still think a better solution could be made them bending a loop in the wire.

It's also easier to replace the existing design of the boots because they are straight.
A bit of Silicon spray and your done in about 2 minutes.

If there was a 90 degree bend in the boot, it would nearly make it impossible to replace them.
All DUCATI have to do is supply them as a spare part. Possibly sold in pairs.
And the issue will go away.
For my money they're fine just as they are currently designed.
It's a pity they can tend to fall apart in some cases.

It's a pity we can't get a petition going on the issue that could make a real difference:(

Anyway it's not like there aren't alternatives.
It's just that it would be really nice to order them through the Spare Parts department.
Perhaps an enterprising dealer or aftermarket supplier, may be able to offer something to replace them which can be purchased online.
Just like the Marchesini decals for the "S" wheels are available, and also the TPS for the xx98's;)

You're quite right about this matter.

But it's all very old news now which has been dealt with to the best of my recollection.

Are you starting to run out of things to whinge about and digging old garbage up to recycle?

I will reiterate the best solution for you.
Go to your beloved BMW MOTORAD dealer and ask spare parts if they can order in for you the equivalent thing from one of their bikes:eek:
See if BMW can come to your rescue;)
They look almost identical but I think they have 1 less bellows and will fit just the same as the DUCATI part, and are used in many varied applications on the BMW's.

If you were prepared to take up a petition on the matter, I will fully support you in telling DUCATI that they need to brush their act up and be the first to sign up to it.
