Strange goo coming out of my bike

Keep us posted. 115 C?! That must have been blistering hot! I live in HI and in even in max stop and go traffic absolute max I have seen is 105 and that was insanely hot when the heat starts to soak in. My thighs are starting to burn just thinking about how hot that is.

Oil pressurised into air box with hard riding or air filter oil? Mixed with moisture, high humidity, weeped out the over flow pipe when it got extremely hot causing the viscosity to thin? Hope so for you. Have seen this on mx bikes I have owned and was exactly what I previously said.

Generally oil/coolant mix is milkier and more fluffy than what you pictured.

Pop the cap off of the radiator. If any oil is in there, it'll float to the top.

Regular engine blowby can be quite nasty, especially if there has been condensation from short runs in the oil. And if said condensation freezes up in your PCV system, it just makes an even gooier mess. Not sure how the Panigale's PCV system is setup with the secondary air and such. An over filled engine sucking up extra oil can purge some goo as well.

When I was a disgruntled factory worker I used to leave crayons all over the place. Made for some fun melted warranty claims.

So.... The radiator is literally full of that crap. Engine will have to come out and Ducati AU will have to decide what they want to do with it.... .
Thanks for all your input guys... watch this space to see how the warranty dept handle it.

So it was a blown head gasket ? They should have to split the bike but a straightforward job

hahaa I should maybe check my garage for a strange dude lurking about.....

Bike is with Arthur at Desmo HQ as we speak. He will be back to me soon (I hope) with what they are planning to do with the bike...

Ok so Arthur has phoned today with an Update. ...

There is oil in the water but not the other way around. They are going to do a complete rebuild on the engine and pretty much everything except the bottom end will be replaced. Including all the cooling system, radiators water pump etc.

Ducati AU have seen this only twice on 1199's in Australia.... They seemed to know exactly what the failure is and with the limited info about the past 2 failures that was passed on to me, I'm assuming it to have been an issue with the heads themselves rather than anything as 'routine' as a blown head gasket.

All done under warranty of course so I'm happy with the projected outcome thus far.

Also I cant say enough good things about Arthur at Desmo HQ. Very helpful and knows his stuff with these bikes. I wont be taking any Ducati I own to anyone else thats for sure.

They haven't said as yet, Just that my engine will be rebuilt to brand new spec. The engine isn't apart yet, so I guess they are waiting until they have looked inside before confirming what the 'exact failure' is. At this point they are assuming it is the same as the other 2 failures based on symptoms.

As soon as I know, you guys will know....

I would have them do bottom end same thing happened to my friends bike and 4 months later the bottom end went because they only did top end

Picking up the bike tomorrow. Will get the low down on exactly what was replaced etc and more info about the failure.

Cant wait.... The anticipation of getting it back has been worse that when I was waiting to buy it! Have the day off so planning on putting in some serious 'running in' km's on it in the hills. Cant wait!!! :D

Hey Guys,

This morning I rode my bike to work and the traffic in the city was worse than its normal 'terrible'. The bike was running quite hot and got up to 115C (239f) but the thermo fans were running as they should.

After I'd pulled up to work, I noticed this strange goo coming out of the bottom of the fairing....about the consistency of a thick syrup...

Any ideas what this stuff is?? Would that be expected behavior or is there something terminal here with my new bike :(

I know these bikes arent built for commuting and dont like stop start traffic, but surely it should be able to handle it occasionally....

Did your bike use protection? hahaha sorry I just wanted to say that

How did you go Lee, did you get your fix?

Cheers
