Thinking about a commuter bike...

I got mine for 4500 with 800 miles. It had abs too. It was awesome to wheelie and slide the rear around. I also got it up to 120 which blew my mind for a single 650. With the arrow exhaust it was looouud ! They only sold it in the states for a year or two, so that was cool. My brother just bought an 800r, that's an option too. Slap some road 3s on there and it'd be perfect.

I meant you reminded me about BMWs. I just figured out I could get a 650 GS for around the same price as the ones I was already looking at. How is maint on the BMWs? I really want Japanese reliability, but that 650 GS would be sweet.

That looks like a KTM RC8R without the front fairings on!

It's a running joke he has...

The labor is as much as Ducati, but .... doesn't break. What I gathered owning that bike was they're built to last and easy to work on.

....Ninja - I do like them, but I think the riding position won't be comfortable for those inevitable "stuck in traffic for an hour" days...

The riding position is very comfortable. It is not leaned over at all. But I get that it's all subjective as to what you want.

I'll check it out, thanks for the recommendation. Lots of good ideas so far so it should be a fun day at the dealership.

I almost forgot....if you want to look cool and commute I took a demo Triumph Bonnie out....very smooth and I liked the retro look..

i felt like rolling a pack of cigs on my white tshirt sleeve....and i dont smoke...lol

The wife's M696 is a good all-around. Not ideal for the Leesburg-Springfield trip but great around the beltway.

If I was commuting on my bike, I would look get the Multistrada or the Diavel. Since I like something more unique and not so utilitarian like the Multristrada - I'd lean more toward the Diavel. It doesn't strike me as a maintenance monster or anything which is why I would lean that way. The riding style/posture/etc and comfort would lend itself to all day riding, through traffic, and at the same time still be somewhat sporty. But thats just me.

How about the Street Triple R? A really fun bike, comfortable and a great commuter!

^ Beat me to it! Street Triple, hands down. I used to own one, and regret selling it.

I also have a lot of seat time on the SFV650 mentioned on the other page, since my wife owns one. No comparison - the Triumph destroys the Suzuki.

Great looks, amazing motor, unique sound, and was very reliable.

Anybody ever own a Kawasaki Versys or a Yamaha FZ6R? The Honda CB500F looks interesting too. Anything else I should be considering? I want it to be small and light for easy city maneuvering/parking and also completely bombproof from a maintenance and reliability standpoint. I'm also considering a Hyperstrada, but that doesn't fit the bombproof criteria.. :)

A few of the FJ/FJR guys have moved to the Versys and think very highly of it.

Scooter? :eek::D:eek:

Actually, I ride my DRZ to work almost everyday. Great mileage and pretty fun to ride.

Im geting a duke 390 for commute.
Excellent everything but service is every 5000km

Light easy handle. Looks good . still will beat any car on road. Small bike. Cheap fuel. 3.4l/100km

Im sure you can get 600cc for same price 2nd hand. But atleast this way its covered by warranty

What about the new hypermotard? Smallish, light, fun. And I think the maint intervals are pretty reasonable.
