Throttle delay

Hello Folks, hope all is well.

I have just (yesterday) moved from a "˜14 1199S to a V4S and I have a question about the throttle.

There seems to be a tiny bit of a delay when opening the throttle that wasn't in the 99? Is this normal? It's only for a split second when taking off from a stop but it is a little annoying.

I'm not talking about the slack in the throttle control unit as I have the spacers installed, it is a definite lag.

Appreciate your help.

What mode are you riding in. I noticed on my 1299s that if you ride in the sport mode there is a lag in the throttle. I switched to race mode and it improved but things like throttle blips are smoothed out by the electronics, particularly in low rpm, low speed situations. I found it so intrusive that I stopped using sport mode altogether.

Maybe you’re used to the bottom end hit of the twin ? 4s are a bit softer off the bottom and it may feel like lag ?

I feel the delay in mine as well. Put it into Race Mode and the throttle response becomes immediate. But careful in the wet though -- the rear will spin out with all that power under hard acceleration.

Thanks guys, I’ll put in race today and see if the resolves.

It’s not the difference in the power delivery, there is definitely a delay.

Be safe

Yes, there is a slight delay feeling in compare to the 1199/1299 bikes.
The electronics are different than the older bikes. In Race mode if you lower the DTC to 2 and DSC to 1, it's more direct feeling. Or leave it in DTC 3 and DSC 2 and just whack the throttle open. Watch the electronics work their magic. Once you get used to it, you start opening the throttle way earlier and get on the gas.

If you are at a point where there is a lot of traction left I am sure the electronics will work. But if you are on track at near front runner race pace , the electronics may not be able to work magic. Rather be earlier and greedier with the throttle but don't just wack it, especially at full lean.
I have seen many a crash , right in front of my eyes , where the electronics just had no margin left. And many of these guys weren't wacking it open.
Maybe someone here that races has tried ?
I can tell u that on my zx, I can hear intervention right from apex to upright. I listen to the misfiring cut from the ecu and regulate throttle. And even then I have had it step out unexpectedly.
So before any of you go try the wack it open method, just consider the consequences.
Just my 2c

I am having a similar issue, but it also seems like a clutch engage delay at high speed with the V4R. I was doing about 130 and I was in a straight line and just grabbed gas and it acted like it didn't want to give it to me. Then it engaged then didn't. Almost like traction control. My first bike with traction control. The dealer said, "you haven't even broken it in". I said, I was checking it out.

Also those Pirelli Stock tires don't warm up fast enough for me. I'll go with what I know with the Michelin's for the street.

Have a dealer check it with diagnostics.

Mine has about 5 degrees of movement, after the mechanical slack, before the ecu reads anything. They're not all like this. It makes it difficult returning to throttle from a closed throttle or at low speed.

Wait till ya throw an exhaust on a V4 lol the throttle response goes out the window till you can get it flashed

I was told not to flash my V4R. I put the map on there with a full Titanium Akrapovic.

It should be flashed too? I was told you shouldn't.
